Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Juneau - Otter Way Cottage

Otter Way Cottage is located in Indian Cove just 3/4 mile North of the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Dock. Enjoy the 180 degree view of the cove populated by resident eagles, herons, porpoises, and more … Fishing, hiking, boating, kayaking, diving, rock-skipping, and barbecue all within a stone's throw of the front door down the private staircase to the beach. One master bedroom and bath upstairs off of the main living space make this hide-away a perfect spot for a couple. A second bedroom is available through the basement with its own entrance, ideal for teenagers or visiting guests (no bathroom downstairs) we refer to this room as The Hobbit Hole as it has low ceilings and a separate entrance from the upstairs. Not suitable for small children sleeping alone .

About Teresa Busch

We've lived in Juneau for 24 years and consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have found such a beautiful environment and community to call home. We both grew up in Oregon and are now splitting time between the 2 places that we call home. We wanted others to experience the beauty and serenity of our cove when we are away.

There truly is no other place like it.

Teresa Busch purchased this house in 2004

Why Teresa Busch chose Alaska

We purchased Otter Way Cottage after leasing it for a year. When you wake up every morning and no matter what the weather looks like outside you still feel like you are on vacation we knew that was where we wanted to be. The front of the house is all windows and faces the water. There are days you feel like you are watching a nature channel through the windows. With porpoises that play in the cove, eagles, herons, otters and whales you won't want to leave the cove.

What makes this house unique

The million dollar view, the convenient location and the quiet neighborhood will make you fall in love with Indian Cove. Rent a Kayak 5 minutes down the road at Auke Bay Kayak Rentals and paddle out to Indian Island that sits right in front of the Cottage.

Build a bonfire in the fire pit and look for the Aurora. Bar-B-Q on the expansive deck and wait for the tide to go out then walk across the land bridge to the little island and watch the sunset. So many things to enjoy.

Perfect place to hang out as a family

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There is an amazing view from a very comfortable and beautifully furnished cottage with a well-stocked kitchen for those who like to cook on vacation, and a great private beach that my 3-year-old daughter just loved exploring. We had several pleasant evenings on the beach with a fire, which is always fun. The owner is very nice and is easily reached if you have any questions or concerns. So many positive things to say, but only one negative: the downstairs bedroom. It is only accessible from the outside (which is a pain because it's almost always raining in Juneau), there is very low overhead clearance (6 ft), and it smells musty down there. The cottage is best used as a 1 bedroom, so if you have a family with young kids, it's best to just have them sleep in the living room instead of downstairs. Even with the odd bedroom set-up, we'd go back in a heartbeat. We loved our week-long vacation there and wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Susan, Thank you so much for the generous review. Apologize for the musty basement smell. This can sometimes happen when there is very heavy rains in Juneau and September is the time the rains begin to set in. There have been many sunny Septembers unfortunately this one hasn't bee one. We will be addressing the basemment issue when we are there next week. We however are unable to adjust the ceiling height down there and that is why in our description we refer to the second over flow bedroom as the Hobbit Hole. It's much more suited for a teenager or adult that doesn't mind the separation from the top half of the house. We do hope that you return some time in the future to see the changes that we will be making (downstairs will still be a hobbit hole but less musty) and the tree house will be finished soon. Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you in the future. I'll post better photos soon to give a clearer picture of the downstairs.

Very clean, location cant be beat

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful time staying at your property. The view was amazing, the house was clean and fully stocked. I enjoyed fishing from the shore for Monkfish and Sculpin. The house was close to grocery store and Juneau. Wonderful property, we saw a family of dolphins swimming in the bay very close to the house in the evening hours.

Otter Way Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is absolutely wonderful. The view is outstanding and the cottage is clean, well maintained, with a wonderful kitchen and bath that is well stocked, except for refrigerated items. There are so many extras that it would takes pages to list everything. The linens and art work are well above average for a rental. Every morning we had a group of porpoises visiting, what a treat. The beach is nice, but rather rocky for a lot of walking. The view and cabin itself are what makes the rental so fantastic. We would definitely stay here again. Do note, the hobbit room is not really a good second bedroom if you had two parties staying, but Teresa does explain in her notes. Sorry we weren't able to meet her as she was having family emergencies when we were there. Hope to on another visit to Juneau.

Owner's Response: Jayne, I too was sorry we weren't able to meet you. Aging parents in the lower 48 is one of the reasons for us sharing our cottage on VRBO. We try to make it as comfortable to our guests as we like it to be for us when we are there so I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I too love the visiting porpoise they feel like family. When our dog was alive he would wade out chest deep and great them. They would swim up to him. We loved watching the interaction between them. Yes the downstairs bedroom (although very comfortable) is completely separate from the upstairs and some people do not like that separation yet on the other hand some do. But thank you for pointing that out as some folks do not read all the way through the description. We look forward to having you as guests again in the future.

Beautiful Views

Teresa's home is absolutely beautiful! We never turned on the TV because the view of Otter Cove were stunning! The home itself is the most comfortable, nicely decorated, and homey place we've stayed. Everything you could need for cooking is available too. We had a wonderful time and we would highly recommend this Teresa's house to any one. We would love to visit again in the future. Thank you for sharing your awesome space!

Owner's Response: Thank you Georgine, I am so glad that you enjoyed our cottage. I do love a LARGE well stocked kitchen. It makes it feel more like home to guests and keeps your out of pocket expenses down when you want to cook a gourmet meal while on vacation. This kitchen makes that possible. We have had a sit down dinner for 40 in that little cottage. I'm happy to hear that you appreciated that. We do hope that you come back to see the up grades that we have planned for the cottage. Looking forward to seeing you as guests again. Thank you for staying with us.

Owner's Response: Pattie, Thank you so much for staying with us, and thank you for mentioning Eagle Beach. I never remember to point mention that fantastic beach. There are so many wonderful places to visit in Juneau that it's hard to fit it all in on an average vacation of a week or a few days. We hope that you return and stay with us again and explore more of Juneau. Thank you again, Teresa
