I love to mix a little bit of old and modern which can be seen in the decor of my home. I have a love for the outdoors and the beauty this world has to offer. I hope that opening up my home to guest stays can help me to fund my aspirations for worldly travel.
Krystal Drysdale purchased this house in 2001
I bought this historical home while I was in college as a little bit of an art project. It was built in 1892 and at the time was in desperate need of some TLC and someone to rescue it from its current state. I worked hard over the course of 5 years to remodel and make improvements with the help of my mother, a local interior designer. My parents now manage rental properties and have kindly agreed to manage my home while I am away. I take pride in making it 'new' again while still maintaining the original charm of the home that first drew me to it. I hope you do too.
My sister and two brothers rented this home for a family party. We had a wonderful time. The owners go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable with all the necessities plus lots of extras like wifi, soft blankets in the living room for the super comfy couch, lots of toys for little kids (even though we did not use them they are in the spare bedroom closet) and a ton of DVDs. We would definitely stay there again!
Well.... Everything in the home was high quality. . from the bedding to the woodwork. There needs to be better communication between the the owner and the renter. If you look at the photos of this home.. A beautiful picture is painted from the inside to the red brick sidewalks down the street.... There are no red brick sidewalks or Old town where this house is located. This is not a well kepted historical area... There are countless homeless people carrying bags up and down the street. . I m not judging the homeless.. I've been there. But when youre looking for a family vacation with 5 kids.. .. Well safety is an issue. More on safety.... Morning Noon And Night, there are countless drug deals in the White Apartment building across the street. The whole area was so dangerous that I didn't even want to tour the town with my children. Heck... I didn't want to tour that area period. Many of the people walking around in this area are covered in Red Clothing... Saggy pants... Hat to the side... Etc... I don't have to go any further.. It is 2016. My husband.. Myself.. And our 5 children.. Are Christians. Period. The description of this house depicts a historical house with antiques and timeless Beauty. We did not expect to pay for home that has Dragon statues... Voodoo paintings... African Voodoo... Snake "art".. The book of Free Masonry... It is worth $74 a night.
During our 4 nite stay we hosted a bridal event and baked for the wedding day in the well equipped kitchen. The plush bedding was so nice! We enjoyed the old style bath tub upstairs with the option of a shower in the bath downstairs. Plenty of space for privacy, although a small home full of delight! A good, quiet, neighborhood between Commercial and Walnut St. An easy 3 minute drive, or walking to restaurants and entertainment.
Clean, cozy, and well done, with old style character! Will return for my next wedding! Thank you!
Very nice old home. Owner was very accommodating to our situation.
We had a great time staying at this property. The owners have really taken the time to ensure guests have an enjoyable stay. Lots of entertainment amenities are available including a large DVD/Blu-Ray collection, Netflix (more on that), Satellite TV, a Wii, Wi-Fi, as well as toys and games for children. Unexpected amenities include condiments, coffee, tea, dish washing/cleaning supplies, soap, shampoo - basically anything one might forget to bring.
The house is certainly older (built in the late 1800s if I remember correctly) and has experienced some settling over the years causing some areas to lie at a slight but perceptible tilt. I can't knock any stars off for this though as the overall condition of the property was excellent. It is worth mentioning however as it did cause for at least one comical trip to the restroom in the middle of the night--and we hadn't been drinking!
Communication with the owner was easy and prompt. They worked with us regarding our arrival time and contacted us once housekeeping had finished to let us know when the property was available.
The only issue we experienced during our stay was we couldn't access Netflix. I suspect the issue was either with the account itself or one of the previous guests had logged out of the account on the Blu-Ray player. I have the same model Blu-Ray player and used to have Netflix, so I'm familiar with how to access the service, however it just didn't work. I contacted the owners and was provided a password to try, however I never did since we had plenty of other things to do anyway.
Since my son has moved to Springfield, we will likely be visiting the area again in the future. When we do make plans to visit, we will certainly be checking the availability here first!
We really enjoyed this dog friendly VRBO. We love the Commercial Street area, and this is just a couple of blocks away. It is a very historic neighborhood and is great for taking walks and seeing the historic houses. The hosts were friendly, helpful, and understanding when we locked the key in the house. We will definitely stay here next time we are in town!
Please keep in mind you are walking distance from so much that historic & eclectic Commercial St. offers.
