Enjoyable property

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a great experience at this property over the Thanksgiving holiday. The property was clean and had plenty of rooms and beds for our large family. There was adequate seating in the living area and dining area. The view was very nice, though I would expect in the summer it could get very hot in the living area due to the sun shining in through the windows. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed and the grill was a very nice Weber grill. We would come back to this property again.

The Perfect Winter Retreat

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here with my husband for a few days for our Christmas Vacation. Overall, it was wonderful and I highly recommend the house. There were a few very minor issues. The house has a heat pump that took us some trouble shooting to get the right setting. We called the emergency number to get some help (as the house was 60 degrees) but never got a call back. We had it figured out in the meantime, and the house became very warm and comfortable. The house was very clean. The beds are super comfy. The fireplace works great. The internet is slow, but that was to be expected. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with tools. I do suggest bringing a sharp knife though. We did not use the hot tub. It felt a little cooler than preferred and we weren't all that motivated to begin with. The pool table and foosball tables were such a fun bonus. Both were in great condition. The best part of the house is the view and the waterfront. We slept in the loft and woke up to a beautiful sunrise coming over the lake every morning. It was so perfect. Our dogs enjoyed the dock and jumping into the water, even in December. Its a really great yard that slopes down to the water. Perfect for playing fetch. We had a really great time and would highly recommend this house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us ! We are very sorry the emergency number did not respond.. we have no calls on our back end - so perhaps they re-routed the call incorrectly. Yes this is not what any of us are use to - we have applied to the state, county and federal government to please give us real high speed- every owner desires it - no-one can provide it here - which is unbelievable in itself.. Thank you again - we look forward to having you back soon ! thanks Peace of Paradise at SML

We had a great time at this rental house. House was clean, great living room to spread out with the family. We had an issue with the hot tub the first day, called the number helpline number and someone came out right away to fix it, very pleased! Great time overall

Good deal for the price

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a quiet place to have a nice fall weekend away. Anticipating cool temperatures, the amenities that led us to choose this location were the pool table and the hot tub. We had read other reviews which warned of the extreme heat in the home, but we attributed that to hot summer days. The home is fine, but this is not a "luxury" rental. Kitchen and baths functional but not updated. Bedrooms small but more than adequate. Sparsely, but tastefully decorated. We brought our groceries and ate in. We were there the last weekend in October and it was unseasonably warm. We arrived Friday evening after dark, after a sunny but cool-ish day (60's) to find the interior of the home at 8:30, well after dark, 84 degrees. I wasn't concerned at that point; the air was not on. We opened windows and screen doors and were comfortable before going to bed. The overnight low was in the upper 40's. We had set the air conditioning the night before to 72. The sun rose and within 1.5 to 2 hours, the interior temp was 76 degrees. Outside it was in the 50's. But the clear steady sunshine made the front of the house (the family room and kitchen) hard to take. No worries. We spent time in the basement - which was much, much cooler, had the pool table, TV, and the hot tub just outside on the patio - and we made ourselves comfortable. It was so hot on the main floor at midday (85 inside, 76 outside, AC set at 72) that we took our lunch to the table on the dock (in the shade) to eat. We found fans in a bedroom closet, and once the sun was behind the trees - probably around 4 - the fans were able to pull in some cooler air. We were able to spend the evening on the main floor in comfort. The home is on the inside of a curve, not on a point, so the adjacent docks are very close by. There is a marina nearby, too, so there is that boat traffic. Given the size and space and amenities of the house, it should rent for much, much more. It probably doesn't because the two-story wall of windows, which provides an awesome view, makes the main living space nearly uninhabitable during sunny hours/days. No amount of air conditioning can overcome it. Only room darkening shades, floor to ceiling, will do that. Overall, we found the house to be completely suitable for our needs. We were able to work around the heat. We enjoyed the pool table, the hot tub, and the satellite TV. We will probably rent it again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying ! yes we do not advertise this as a luxury rental at all.. this is actually a budget home with a ton of amenities , the owners are trying to keep it priced well so families can enjoy it . We do thank you for staying and look forward to having you back soon.. The marina is the VA Dare which is a no wake zone with only the one boat going in or out- or you can walk around to the marina and have dinner or a beer - which is very convenient.

Nice place to relax.

  • 4 of 5

We were well pleased with the house. The house was kept very nice, along with a beautiful view of the SML. Our only complaint was the hot tub. The hot tub was not well maintained, so we didn't get a chance to really enjoy it, which is what we were really looking forward to do. This may have been a one-time issue and we were only at the house for a weekend, so we didn't really have time to communicate the issue to the owners. However, I would definitely rent this house again (as long as I was assured the hot tub was clean).

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying. The hot-tub service would have come right out- their number is posted as well as the rental phones in the home - we would have re-called them out as well.. just next time let us know asap thank you again for staying

Nice view, Easy access to water, House in rough condition

  • 2 of 5

While it was convenient to walk to the lake and to have a pontoon dock, the house's age and lack of up-keep put a damper on our stay. The windows are lovely, but it means the loft and the living room are hot - during the afternoon it was over 95 degrees INSIDE the house! Also, the kitchen is tiny with outdated appliances and little to no space for preparing meals. The downstairs bathroom felt like it was taken out of a bad 50's movie - pink walls, rusty sink and a toilet that didn't flush. Additionally, the beds downstairs were rocks - it was more comfortable to sleep on the floor. Fortunately, we were only at the house for a weekend, otherwise the amenities like a hot tub and access to the water would have been overshadowed by the seriously outdated condition of the house. Before staying here - make sure you have lots of outdoor activities planned, so that you limit your time in the house.

Owner's Response: Hi Meaghan We are sorry you are disappointed in the homes condition. We do realize you were there on a 104 degree day and we did send over the HVAC person right away, to assist with the a/c. He was there in an hour and it was cooled down to 76 then ( in the home - and about 98 outside ) The appliances are approx 5 years of age , they are not outdated, they are regular functional working appliances, so I am not sure what else to say on this one. The bath does have pink and black tile, but ironically that swung back in style a year ago.. They do have plans to redo the downstairs area as well. We welcome the comments and the beds are 3 years old - but they are harder mattresses rather than soft, so this is a preference. We do thank you for staying and just want to remind everyone in this price range ( at this lake ) this is budget home with newer appliances - no -one even in their own home throws out 5 year old appliances and replaces.) The sink downstairs is porcelain- it does not rust- we will re-check it - but the last inspections showed it was not rusted. If you need a home that is about 1-2 years old there are some they are over 1000 a night in Sept - we even offer them, everything does depend on your budget. We do thank you again for staying.
