Why Ed Kuester chose Ancram

We've been traveling to the Hudson River Valley since 2000, convincing the parents to purchase a home on Copake Lake. We looked at homes from time to time but nothing really spoke to us until 2010 when we stumbled across this old house and piece of land (thanks to some friends or ours). We had been looking for an old farmhouse with more than just an acre or two of land... this ticked the box. Over the years we've done much of the work ourselves and much of it outside (check out #Taghkanic1832 for photos on Instagram). We love summer upstate and of course the outdoors. This explains why we installed a pool summer 2014! The landscape is quite beautiful and the house sits just perfectly on this land.

Lovely farmhouse in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed during a frigid New Year's weekend--too cold to be outside much, but we were cozy in the farmhouse. It is a lovely and comfortable home, and we enjoyed having a fire going while we relaxed with books and a puzzle after visiting Hyde Park, Olana, and Hudson. The owners have it beautifully decorated and were very responsive to make sure we had everything we needed. We hope to come back during the warmer months to hike and enjoy the outdoors!

Historic Charm - Inviting, Peaceful, Relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival you immediately notice this farmhouse on the hill standing proudly ready to be photographed. A picture perfect location. A welcoming committee of 3 deer in the field greeted us. As you enter the house an immediate welcoming & inviting feeling surrounds you. You can feel the historic charm and character of the house. The owners have added their personal touch that makes the home comfortable & cozy. Take a short walk up to the pool where you can simply relax and enjoy how quiet the location is. Amazing! The owners have provided everything you need for a perfect time away. This is an area rich in history and beauty of the Hudson Valley. The owners are extremely accommodating and want to make sure you have a wonderful time at their country home. We are looking forward to visit again next year.

A Lovely Escape

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful get away from nyc. We rented the house for a family gathering including my two young boys. The house was perfect for our needs and situated on a beautiful piece of property. We sipped coffee on the front porch while enjoying the wildlife. We would frequently spot a family of deers in the woods and hear the bullfrogs in the pond! The pool area is newly done and modern . It is just a short walk up the hill. You don't need to leave the house for anything (except of course to get food for grilling)! The owners were incredibly helpful at ensuring we were well taken care of. There is even a pack n play and a high chair for use with young kids.
