IV. The Yard:
The property has 2 yards on it's left & right side. The right side yard is flat and spacious with tree-surrounding lawn. A fire pit with 4 bench chairs are sitting close to the house. A summer night by the fire under the star-filled sky is amazing.
The driveway runs in front of the house leading to street on both end. It's wide enough to easily park 3-4 cars, but in case you need additional parking, you can park on the lawn on left side or find street parking across the house.
V. The Lake Access:
The entrance to the path leading to the lake is directly across the street in front of the house. You may find it a bit secretive because this is a small lake front for only a few nearby property owners who prefer privacy. The path is down a rocky slope so good walking shoes are recommended. The 2 canoes we provided are by the lakeside accessible to you with a key. The fishing poles, life jackets and oars are stored in the closet of the First Floor office. If you're serious about fishing, please bring your own fishing gears... Whaley lake is known for its great fishing!

Peaceful and Serene are the two words to describe the feelings once you enter the Chalet...We fell in love with it at first sight! It has beautiful countryside setting, water access, and enough interesting things to do in the area for exploration and entertaining. The house feels so airy and spacious that you'll also enjoy staying inside just doing nothing.
We had 9 people ranging from 10 years old to 74. Very comfortable and plenty of room. Having 3 full bathrooms was a plus; my father even used the jacuzzi! Beautiful views of the lake and plenty of room for all to enjoy dinner on the deck. We took two days trips to Manhattan (1 hr 20 min), Warwick, Walkill, and Connecticut. I highly recommended this rental as Connie and her husband are very accommodating! We enjoyed the canoes and outdoor fire pit. Very scenic drive and good restaurants close by. Connie includes a very accurate and specific information packet for local 'things-to-do'.
From the fishing to the pool table to the cozy fireplace in perfectly designed kitchen/dining/living room, the lake chalet is an ideal place for any group. The highlight was taking the canoes out as the sun slowly went down. If you enjoy feeling peace, warmth, and gratitude for the group of people you’re with, you should stay at this VRBO. Best of all, it was easy to get to from NYC. Thank you Connie and David!
I stayed here Labor Day weekend with 10 friends. Communication with Connie was super east. The house was fantastic, even better than pictured. There was plenty of room for everyone. Everything you could possibly need was provided, from different types of cooking oils to folding chairs. The grill and fire pit were both east to use. The beds were all very comfortable. There were plenty of towels and blankets. We were delighted to find that there were two canoes and a rowboat, and we had a great time on the lake. We were able to easily get to the house without a car. We ordered grocery delivery from PeaPod and ShopRite, beer delivery from Pawling Beer and Soda, and took taxis to and from Patterson and Pawling Metro-North stations. I highly recommend this cabin and would definitely rent it again. Thanks for a great weekend, Connie and David!
What a great escape from NYC. I was here for a weekend with 10 other adults, and it was a very comfortable stay to say the least. The host was super responsive and even touched base with me throughout my stay to ensure things were running smoothly. I can't really say anything negative about the property itself.
Everything worked as it should have. One thing you should keep in mind, if you're going to be with a larger adult group (more than 7) it will be nearly impossible to do water activities by the house itself with the two canoes that are provided (although the canoes are great). My crew never made it to the marina which we later realized wasn't too far away from the house itself. We got the feeling some neighbors weren't too happy seeing unfamiliar faces, but the host was very clear about all the other things to do in the area (including water activities). If you're strongly considering staying at this property, I suggest having at least one car within your group as taxi service can be far and few between once you're situated. I would 1000% recommend this place to a friend, very refreshing weekend!
We had a wonderful time staying at the Lake Chalet. Connie was very communicative leading up to and during our weekend.
When we arrived, the house had everything we needed for our group of 12 -- though there was PLENTY of room for more guests. The open floor plan with kitchen, dining, and living room allowed for us all to play games and eat and cook together. The large deck outside had two grills and lots of tables and seating to enjoy the weather. Plus the view from the deck (and master bed) is stunning.
There are a few ways to access the lake. If you want to have some "beach" time, I suggest walking about 12-15 minutes to the end of the road to access the water (make a left out of the driveway and keep walking to the end). The closest path to the lake is very steep and doesn't have much room for a group. We did love having access to the two boats there though! The lake was pretty empty all weekend. Surprising for late July, but it was great feeling like we had our own private lake for a few days! Very clean water and super relaxing.
We found that the Stop & Shop in town was a good, close store to stock up for the weekend. There are separate beer and wine shops nearby as well. All are about a 10 minute drive form the house.
Overall, it was a great weekend for a large group of friends. Space for everyone, and a beautiful, relaxing setting on the lake. We can't wait to visit again!
We were a group of 11 adults staying at the chalet. Everyone had their own bedroom and were quite comfortable. The open floor layout was great for meals and lounging. Connie was a pleasure to deal with while planning the trip. She corresponds with you immediately and is very accommodating. She even touched base with us during our stay to make sure everything was okay. Unfortunately it poured rain most of our stay so we did not get to explore the lake or neighborhood like we had hoped to. But we spent an afternoon at the Millbrook Winery and had so much fun! We also enjoyed a wonderful meal at McGrath's Tavern in Pawling. On Sunday, we took a half hour ride to the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market, which was definitely worth the trip. We look forward to returning to the chalet for another getaway weekend!
