About Owner / Property Manager

We found the house while visiting our friends on the lake that have a house also. I was always an ocean person but I couldn't believe how clean the water is and how pretty the views are. It's really a very friendly community. The house is situated on an island with a small bridge to get to it. We fell in love with it and have done the house completely over. Its so beautiful with the views all year round.

Owner / Property Manager purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Wakefield

The views are amazing! It's located on Pine Island which you take a small bridge over. It has shallow water and gets deeper as you walk out. There are absolutely no weeds in the water with a 30 ft dock to dock your own boat up to or watch the boats going by, lay out on, and the fishing is fantastic on the lake.

The house is so cozy and everything is new. We have tried to think of something for every guest so everyone will enjoy it.

There are two outdoor sitting areas, one with a firepit and also an outdoor shower.

Honestly there's no reason to leave!

What makes this cabin unique

The waterfront is 175ft. To just wake up and see the loons is so fantastic. You just open the French doors on to the deck and you just look at the view and it's such a great start to your day! You can have your coffee right outside on either that deck or the waterfront patio that has a big beautiful outdoor sectional. You can spend the whole day biking, hiking, swimming, floating in such a peaceful environment. Whenever someone visits they all say the same thing : " I never want to leave here"

Location

We are right on the water. It is extremely clean! There are 2 sandbars and islands to kayak, canoe, or boat over to.

We are surrounded by a lot of attractions and things to do. N.Conway, Wolfeboro, Ogunquit, and also Portsmouth are all close by for a day trip or take a nice drive for dinner.

We are on the lake and in the middle of a lot!

Hidden Gem! Beautiful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I cannot express enough what a wonderful stay/holiday weekend we had away at this beautiful cottage! My husband & I stayed here with 1 other couple. Perfect NYE spot! Kim, our host for the weekend did nothing but make our trip that much better! She has excellent response time, clear/concise communication & to boot, she had champagne chilling in the fridge!!! The space was perfect for being holed up in the winter-time. Easy access to the Lake (clearly your view is spectacular, you're literally water-front)! Easy jaunt into town--10 minute leisurely drive down the road. Everyone is very friendly! The cottage is up-to-date, SO well decorated & just darling. Can't say enough nice things! Can't wait to book something there again soon (summer repeat is calling our names) :) Thanks again, Kim!

Rustic Retreat Not As Expected

  • 2 of 5

Remote and quiet were the positives here.

There is an extensive cleaning list in the house that is required of all guests, but it clearly has not been adhered too. I'm sad to say there were lots of cobwebs (especially in the master bedroom), and dust. There was unfinished food left in the fridge, and other random items besides the usual condiments. Broken light fixture hanging off of the wall in the living room. Leather couches were worn and scratched, but expertly covered with many faux fur blankets to hide the holes. There were used soap bars, and a washcloth left in the shower.

There was no fire pit outside. My vision of toasting marshmallows, looking at the stars, did not happen. All the outside furniture was COVERED in debris, leaves and pine needles. I know its October in the woods, but they were also moldy and had some cigarette burns, and the pillows were all over the place and badly faded. The bar area was equally covered, and there were glasses left outside. Although the weather was amazing, unfortunately we could not use either outside space because of all of the debris.

The long 30ft dock in the rental listing pictures had only 1 section on the water, so the fishing my husband was expecting to do was not as great because the dock was so short. He ended up fishing off of the nearby bridge. Another disappointment. I wish it was stated that you must take all of your trash with you when you leave. Only 2 of us stayed, so there was minimal trash, but if you're staying for more than 2 days with a family, then I would hate to think about traveling to a drop off with stinky trash in your vehicle, as well as all the dirty laundry from your stay because there is no washer/ dryer. We ended up driving to Portland to meet up with friends for the weekend, rather than fully enjoying ourselves like we thought we would at the home. When we left, we cleaned up after ourselves, vacuuming and wiping counters, making the bed, cleaning the bathroom, etc., but mostly leaving the property as we found it.

If someone else came in to professionally clean after every stay, and the actual property looked like the pictures (especially the patio areas and the dock), then I would feel comfortable leaving a better review. We went away to relax, not clean someone else's house and leave with trash.

I alerted the owner upon leaving, and provided many pics of damage, but stopped getting responses, and was offered no compensation. This was not the getaway I thought.

Owner's Response: Christine , I was hesitant from the start to rent to you seeing that the month before the owner of that house gave you only 1 star on all 5 accounts. That fact you still want to give a 2 star review I'm very happy I get to respond. In an email before your review I have already addressed your issues but will respond again. The cleaning list is not extensive it asks that you leave the house as you found. The house , as always was professionally cleaned. Any condiments that were left was a honest mistake. The couches as I told you before was not cigarette burns. They from a couple THAT GOT ENGAGED AT OUR HOME ,whom were taking selfies with sparklers and unfortunately burnt a cushion. There wasn't any broken light fixture at all. We were the last ones there. The debris was swept Sunday and the Thursday before your arrival. It's fall and that's just what will happen things fall during this season. After Columbus wknd lakehouses become winterized. The lake are lowered so that you don't get flooding etc. The docks have to come out so they won't freeze and you had 80 ft of waterfront to fish. Had you read the rental agreement, which you have signed , you wouldn't of know there is not trash pickup, washer or dryer. You have never ever sent me any pictures of anything. Sorry if you thought your review would sound better. As a matter of fact I had sent you an email making sure you received your security deposit , after I told you it takes 5-7 days. We absolutely put everything we have into this house and have the reviews to show for it. I always say right from the start any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Also I now will look at the guest review from now on and have asked VRBO to let the home owners know why a guest would get a 1 star review in all 5 categories as you did .

A much needed girls weekend. There was a bottle of champagne chillingin the refrigerator-a perfect start to get this get this weedkend going! We all felt that we were staying in a 5 star resort for the stars! It surely was a great get away for all of us. very peaceful and relaxing as well as very comfortable and cozy. We made it on the lake with the canoe and the kayaks too which are there for your enjoyment. In the evening we sat around the fire on the comfy couches and enjoyed the rest of our champanne. We are planning to rent again for another girls weekend for the fall and the winter! We all felt the same, we did not want to leave! We were all in agreement that nothing else will ever come close to this spectacular get away. You have to experience this!

Perfect summer getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing week here - this section of the lake is quiet, perfect for kayaking and canoes. The house was well appointed and Kim was extremely welcoming and accommodating. Great patio to spend nights by the fire and easy waterfront access as the property has a good dock. The Marina was a short walk away for necessities and excellent breakfast sandwiches :) We will definitely return!
