About Amy Higdon
Our home is built on property that has been in Velda's family since 1879. Her grandparents, Joseph and Sarah Jane Flynn, built the first structure on the property and raised their family on this farm. Sampson Flynn, Velda's father, was born on the farm in 1902. He married Bonnie Cagle in 1920 and their family eventually settled in the gray block home that sits next door to our home. Velda and Marshall had this home moved from along Little River in Walland, Tennessee to the current location in 1965. There have been several additions to the home over the years, including the pool and sunroom. Velda and Marshall raised their family, son David and daughter Amy, in this home until they moved their residence next door in 1996 They remodeled the block house of Velda's parents after their passing. Amy's family lives on the farm behind the rental. Their great-grandchildren are the 6th generation to have lived on the family property.

Why Amy Higdon chose Walland
Powell Farm Rental has been in the nightly rental business since 1996. We have guests who will be returning for their 20th summer. Our home is large enough to have plenty of beds and room to spread out. The sunroom provides gorgeous mountain views even in the winter. Our guests have enjoyed various local activities, and one family returns each Fall for an annual Tennessee football game. We are 45 minutes from Dollywood and other Pigeon Forge attractions.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Powell Farm is uniquely located near Knoxville and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge but far enough away to avoid traffic and crowds. We are also located near 2 TVA lakes, Chilhowee (20 miles away) and Tellico (appox. 35 miles away). There is parking available for boats on our property. Also, located on this family property is Sampson's Hollow, a lovely wedding/event facility owned and operated by Velda's nephew and his family. Our home is often rented by those attending events at Sampson's Hollow. Our home is located next door to Blackerry Farm, a nationally known and recognized country inn. Enjoy similar views at a fraction of the cost!

Great for family get-togethers
This home is perfect for family get-togethers. The home is clean with comfortable beds. We spent most of our time in cycles of swimming in the pool, eating, and playing games on the long table in the sunroom. We had some much fun at the house that we only ventured out twice go to to Cades Cove (we saw bears!) and river tubing.
July 4 Get Away
Amy was excellent to work with. She is so personable and it was very obvious that she goes over and beyond to make sure everyone enjoys their stay. There was nothing that wasn't provided and/or taken care of prior to the stay so we didn't have to request anything and that was so appreciated. I highly recommend staying at this home and getting to know Amy Higdon.
Little piece of heaven
Amy was awesome. The property was amazing. We loved the in ground pool. Beds were comfortable. We had everything we needed. The property was in excellent condition. Close to Pigeon Forge and Smoky Mountain Park. We already plan on visiting again next year.
We had a great time! The pictures don’t do justice for your view of the mountains! Had a small family get together had plenty of room and the pool was a hit with the kids. It’s a good locations just minutes from the river and not far from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Something for everyone!
We have stayed at Powell Farm many times and it is always wonderful! The host is so helpful and accommodating! We cannot recommend this place enough!
Our oldest daughter had a fantastic wedding at Sampson Hollow. The house was in a wonderful location to ensure the wedding went well. It was roomy enough for everyone to be comfortable and the swimming pool was enjoyed tremendously. Everything was just perfect!!!!
We are located 15 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and 5 minutes from the Foothills Parkway. Townsend is known as the 'Peaceful Side of the Smokies', avoiding the traffic and crowds of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
