Best location in DC, on one of the city's most elegant streets with a direct view of the Capitol, our Victorian home is also near the Supreme Ct, The Mall, Eastern Market, metro, great restaurants, and Union Station. Private, quiet, one bedroom with queen bed, library/second bedroom with luxury leather sofa/platform bed, whirlpool tub & separate shower.
Guests will have use of the entire third floor of this 1894 brick row house. Both bedroom and library/second bedroom (with luxury, queen-size leather fold-out platform bed) have closets with built ins, and a separate hall closet is outfitted with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.
Primary bedroom also has a table and chairs for guest dining. Both bedroom and library have screens for watching videos/dvds. (No television/cable is available.) Luxury marble bathroom has whirlpool bathtub, separate glass-enclosed shower, and TV screen to watch videos or listen to music.
Owners have an Aero bed for families that need more sleeping arrangements. Our adorable Basset Hound will not have access to the third floor during guests' stay.
Parking: DC is better toured without a car but for guests with a car, there is unrestricted street parking only on weekends. Owners will lend guests their private parking space directly behind the house, in enclosed back yard, for $15 per night.
Check in: After 3 p.m. Check out: 11:00 a.m. Hosts will make every effort to accommodate guests' arrival and departure but this is the general rule. You may keep your bags here upon arrival in the city if check in is not yet available. Similarly, if you need to store your bags here for several hours until your plane departs, that's fine, too. Thank you.
*In cases where two guests occupy both beds/rooms, the $50 extra person charge will be assessed.
We very much enjoyed our visit to Washington DC and our gracious hosts. The property was charming, clean, nicely appointed, and very well located to the Capitol, DC nearby Metro rail service and restaurants. We would have not problem encouraging others to book this property.
Rhonda is a lovely host and made us feel very comfortable. Her home is lovely. The bathroom is exquisite. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and we very much enjoyed our stay. The location is within convenient walking distance to many restaurants, parks, tourist sites and metro stations. I would recommend very much and possibly stay there again!
Everything about our stay was wonderful. Rhonda made us feel at home and our teenage boys had a wonderful time here instead of a hotel. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the DC area. It's walking (a lot of walking)distant to the National Mall, and many restaurant choices just blocks away.
There isn't much to add to the reviews previously posted about this place, so I'll just reaffirm that if you are looking for a wonderful place to stay, extremely close to "the action" (i.e., The Mall) and with the most accommodating, personable hosts possible, then look no further than "The Penthouse". We could have spent our entire time in DC just talking to Rhonda and Bill (and fawning over Lafayette). Their place is an easy, ten-minute walk from the Capitol, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress (i.e., the eastern end of The Mall), and about a five-minute walk to the nearest Metro station and a host of restaurants. We will definitely stay here again when we next visit DC.
I could not be happier with my stay with Rhonda and Bill. First and foremost they are consummate hosts. Charming people who made my stay in DC very special.
The apartment is wonderful. It is spacious, spotless and elegantly decorated. This location is ideal for exploring Washington DC. Just about every sight you want to see is nearby. The lovely, very walkable neighborhood includes several great restaurants only five minutes away. The Eastern Market is perfect for picking up some great deli style food.
The bed is very comfortable. The en suite would do any spa proud. You have a beautiful office/parlor with a great work desk and comfy leather couch. The little "kitchen" was just right. There was coffee, water, soda and a nice bottle of wine.
But back to the beginning. I felt like I was visiting old friends and I can't wait until I can bring Wendy back with me to meet Rhonda and Bill. (And of course Lafayette.) Thank you all for having me and I hope to see you again very soon.
So the bottom line... This is where to stay in Washington DC. You will absolutely love it.
Visiting relative that was right across the street so the location was ideal. Having hosts so personable and welcoming and accommodations that were actually as presented made the trip even more memorable. In addition, the places and restaurants recommended by the hosts did not disappoint. Plan to stay with Rhonda and Bill the very next opportunity we have to do so.
Our home is five minutes by cab from Union Station and less than a ten-minute walk from Eastern Market metro.
