Vacation Oasis

The cottage was even more than it appeared in the pictures.Very well designed, everything at your fingertips. We have stayed in many cabins and cottages in both the Blue ridge Mountains and the Smokey Mountains and this was the cleanest most well kept of all of them. The amount of furnished supplies for every day living was unbelievable. Nothing was missing that you might need. The view of the lake was incredible and the fishing great. I caught 35 bass on plastic tubes and havoc creature baits from 1lb. to 3lbs. That was all I targeted for fishing. All the fish I caught were released. I DID LOSE 2 TOADS IN THE 6 TO 8 LB. CLASS THAT BROKE MY 14LB. TEST LINE. Had a great time for our anniversary and the weather was perfect. We are booking a return trip in June.Thank you for such a wonderful place to stay, my wife and I really enjoyed it. We had a wonderful time. The house was exceptional and it was in a beautiful location. Quiet and peaceful with a great Lake for fishing or just relaxing and kayaking. Loved our time there and plan to return again.

Quiet rural haven; water birds and turtles; fun fishing; caring and responsive property owners

Truly a place to get away from it all! Plan on doing most of your own cooking, as restaurant options in the area are very limited and close early, but the kitchen is well-equipped and you can shop for basics at the Piggly-Wiggly in Pikeville. If you visit in August during the Bledsoe County Fair, make sure to go to this family-friendly event, also in Pikeville.

The lake (the back of the house looks out over Twin Lake #2, while #1 is across the road from the front of the house) is very clear and is full of large-mouth bass and blue gills (and possibly crappies, tho' we didn't catch any), so is nice for casual fishing from the kayaks or the small boat with electric motor (provided). Laundry machines are really good quality and quiet. Bring plenty of insect repellent if you want to be outside in the evening to fish or use the firepit - and once you're protected, go out at night, lie on a blanket, and look at the Milky Way over the lake. Amazing how many stars you can see when the light pollution is minimal! We observed an osprey diving into the lake for its dinner, lots of turtles, tons of butterflies and dragonflies, and some shy blue-tailed skinks who call the front steps home. (Note, the entrance to the rental property is to the left as you face the house, and the rolling gate is not attached to anything, and will fall down if you unbalance it - learned this the hard way when arriving after dark!)

The owner is great to work with, and responds quickly to messages. Owner also checked in to make sure all was well on our arrival, even though they were traveling themselves! It is clear that the owners really want their guests to enjoy their stay, and are working all the time to make this happen - and the enthusiastic entries in the guest book at the house show their efforts have paid off. (Use the driving directions the owners provide and you won't have a problem finding the home.)

If you want a lot of attractions and organized activities close at hand, this place is not for you. There are no other rentals anywhere nearby and Pikeville is not a tourist destination, making this home a great choice for those people who want to get away to spend time together, relax and enjoy the outdoors.

NOTE: Pikeville sits at/near the time zone line between Eastern and Central time. When you are at the house, you are on Central time, but we went to a restaurant with Pikeville address that was on "fast" (Eastern) time, so check on that when planning dinner out.

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for two families! 3 stories and plenty of room!! It was very quiet and we enjoyed our stay! We had AC problems one night and the owner had a repairman there immediately! We were very impressed with not only our stay at the cabin but also the care from the owners! Thanks so much for making our family vacation one to remember!!! Definitely recommend this cabin!
