About the property

Country House In Sophisticated Village near Bard, Omega, C.I.A., skiing

An updated older home with front and back porches in the heart of a charming village, close to Bard College, Vassar College, Omega, and the C.I.A. Walk into town to bookstore, great little movie theater--$6 plus $1.50 for popcorn, fabulous restaurants owned by some CIA grads, health food store, candy store, Beekman Arms Hotel, super farmers' market, bike into the country, try Pilates or yoga, head to Bard for the Frank Gehry auditorium, down to the CIA for food and cooking lessons, to Vassar College, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's revamped library and home, Vanderbilt and Mills mansion, public tennis, pool, library, and Omega Institute nearby. Four bedrooms that altogether can sleep six or seven. Rent for a weekend, week, month or more! But know that this house is lived in and not a full-time business. As the sharing economy has evolved, some prefer a home that's only for renters. That's not the case with mine. I leave out my books and magazines to share including cookbooks. But this also means there are framed photos out of my loved ones and a piano that's tuned to play! That also means cabinets are stocked with food I use and SHARE--oatmeal, jams, honey. The refrigerator is always cleaned and there is space on shelves and in the freezer but it's not bare unless you come for a week or longer. i, of course, make beds each time with freshly laundered sheets, have of freshly laundered towels available, always offer new shampoos and soaps, and also provide breakfast bagels, new orange juice, milk and Nespresso capsules so you are comfortable when arriving. A gas station across the street offers all the news you want to read! Come, relax, enjoy.

About Property Manager/Owner

Love to cook, paint, entertain, and work--still must do it but isn't that great!

Love to garden too and have a perennial garden all around and planters that once had vegetables and now mostly perennials and herbs and a few tomatoes since the squirrels are too aggressive and i hate sharing!

Property Manager/Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Rhinebeck Village Business District

Because it's light, bright, roomy, air conditioned, new bathrooms, updated kitchen, right in the heart of the village, steps away to shopping, library, bookstore, Pilates, yoga, art classes and lots of great restaurants! Has four comfortable bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half, great big living room, dining room, family room, and modernized kitchen and outdoor spaces at front and back for sitting, vegetable garden, and close to Bard College, Vassar College, Omega, 1+ hour to the Berkshires and not far from the Catskills and skiing. Use my pots and pans and spices and cook here, watch TV, use my Wi-Fi, and relax. Close to my gym and Pilates classes, too. Have two bicycles to use. Rent for a weekend, week, month or two! But know that this is my house I love and live in and not a spare business; so there is my stuff; neatly organized and you'll feel at home with my cookbooks etc.

What makes this house unique

The village is a gem, maybe the best place I've lived with culture, food, kind people and so much near by, including the Berkshires 1+ hours away. And even in the deadly winter, it's still a joy to put on a coat, hat, gloves and boots and stroll out to see how pretty the town looks.

The house has a very warm and folky aesthetic! Very charming!

Had a fabulous time in Rhinebeck (what a great little town!) with my family. The house suited all of our needs and the location could not have been better, it is literally right in town. We walked to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Barbara is the most gracious host and incredibly communicative! Would highly recommend.

Perfect setting for a memory-making weekend with friends!

  • 5 of 5

Five knitters shared this lovely house for a long October weekend at the New York State Sheep & Wool Festival. We felt right at home, cooking, eating, knitting, and talking. The 2 1/2 baths were much appreciated, as were the 4 separate bedrooms. Barbara is a generous host, leaving us with goodies to eat, basics to assist our meal prep, and a richly-decorated home. The location is perfect, right in town with easy access to restaurants, shops, and the fairgrounds. We enjoyed the outdoor setting one afternoon, as we sat in the sun and knit.

The owners took the time to meet and introduce us to the house when we arrived, making the transition to our temporary home seamless. We had everything we needed in terms of kitchen equipment, towels, bedding, and space for togetherness as well as privacy. We were sorry to leave but carry wonderful memories back to our homes!

Wonderful weekend in this cozy home!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Rhinebeck! Loved that this beautiful home was only a few blocks from town, close to restaurants and all the great amenities of the Hudson Valley. From sitting on the back porch with our morning coffee to watching the stars come out over drinks in the back yard patio - it was a fabulous getaway to catch up with friends. We can't wait to come back!

Such a pretty house in an outstanding location. We rented the house for a wedding weekend. Easy walk into town for events.

Barbara was a great hostess with fresh bagels and bread waiting for us upon our arrival. Nicely done!

Great house & locale in Rhinebeck, NY, a great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house is GREAT! It's a beautiful, comfortable home with plenty of space, a well stocked kitchen, and real style and charm. We were able to make ourselves at home. We had five people and only used three of the four bedrooms. Two full modern bathrooms upstairs and a powder room downstairs means more convenience. The house is in a fabulous location on the edge of town, walking distance to anything in Rhinebeck, and close to Bard College where we attended our daughter's graduation. Barbara is a sweetheart and if I were to return to the Hudson Valley I would not hesitate to stay there again. We had wine and bagels waiting for us!

Located in the great town of Rhinebeck, near train stations, FDR's home, the CIA, Omega, near Hunter Mountain for skiing, 1+ hour to the Berkshires and its museums and great plays, shops, and more; a great location with great activities in town including an independent bookstore, super movie theater, shops, restaurants, Pilates, yoga, library, outdoor public tennis and swimming pool, good bike riding, golf courses not far, and almost anything you can imagine! I have one good bicycle and helmet you can borrow and a bike shop in town will let you rent.
