Beautiful home with helpful hosts, just a little far from the beach.
We loved this house. It was beautifully furnished, extremely comfortable and had a lovely view. The owners were helpful and responded to any queries or difficulties we were having and were kind enough to give us an extra hour on the last day.
The beach was stunning. We liked our small local pool and its welcome shade too, although it was looking a little tired. The tennis club was first class and had excellent coaching. My husband enjoyed the local golf courses too. The resort was clean and everyone was very friendly although we felt that Queen's Grant was not quite as spruced up as some other areas we found; we had friends staying in Shipyard and we felt they had the better deal. However, good restaurants, shops and entertainments, like the mini golf were easily accessible by bike or car. The bike paths were fantastic for both cycling and running/walking.
The house was a 15 minute fast walk (part of my morning's exercise routine!) from the beach, or a good 20/25 min amble with kids and beach gear, in the heat, so we were glad we rented bikes. We never investigated how to get to the beach by car, so I'm not sure how the arrangements would have worked for taking equipment to the beach and parking, but we just about managed on bikes with our boogie board tucked under an adult arm and backpacks containing towels, water etc. When we return to Hilton Head I think we'll try and find a house a bit closer to the beach. Our kids are 12 and 14; I think the distance from the beach would have been an issue had our kids been much younger. I disagree with the description that it is a 'short walk to the beach'; that to me implies under 10 mins. However, as I said, there may have been a perfectly adequate place to get to the beach, with equipment and kids in tow, using the car, which we never tried to do.
A disappointment was that we had absolutely no beach or pool equipment or beach towels available to use, which we are lucky enough to have had provided for us in all the other houses we've stayed in before, in SC and Florida. We picked up 4 beach towels and a boogie board fairly cheaply in Wallmart but it would have been nice to not have to deal with that and we decided it was too expensive to buy umbrellas and chairs only to have to leave them behind. I have also never stayed in a rented house, anywhere in the world, that did not have a hairdryer! Maybe I've just been lucky!
Overall a great holiday but a few small quibbles.
