Our family really enjoyed our visit to New York and our stay with Ghilian at her property. You are renting a large bedroom on the middle floor of her townhouse, and the space is much larger than anything you would get in a Manhattan hotel. The two queen beds are really comfortable, and there is a double conversion couch for an extra bed. Ghilian was a great host, always willing to help with ideas or directions for getting around the city. She and her family were friendly and willing to share at all times. We will definitely use this rental whenever we return to the city. Thanks!
We stayed at Ghylian's for a week in June 2016. The place was *gorgeous*. Our room, like the rest of the house, was clean, spacious, and well appointed. Ghylian has a great art collection. We loved getting to use the kitchen for breakfast in the mornings and appreciated the AC in our room. Yoga in the studio downstairs was a zen compliment to all the bustle of walking around the city, kept us grounded and relaxed. Thanks for the great place to stay!
This rental is different from a stand-alone vacation rental. You are renting a room in a home with a shared bath and full access to the kitchen. The home is intended to be a sanctuary in the middle of the city, and complimentary yoga classes are included in the rental. This is a great place to rent if you want to feel like you are living in the city rather than visiting, and you want to retreat to your own digs after a long day of sightseeing. It's a great place to relax and rest when you don't want to be on the move.
The property manager Ghylian is an outstanding hostess, and extremely attentive to your needs. She truly made us feel at home, and welcomed us as a part of her family. She showed us what its truly like to live in New York, and always had helpful recommendations for restaurants in town. In addition, she is a talented yoga teacher--I strongly recommend participating in at least one session during your stay. I participated in two sessions, and both helped me restore and maintain my balance while in New York.
The disdvantage of this property is the location--it's a 20 to thirty minute subway ride to all of the major attractions in midtown, and more to Ground Zero, the High Line, and Wall Street. We liked this aspect, since we were on vacation and not rushed every day, but it may not appeal to some prospective guests.
We were very satisfied, and would rent this room again.
This rental is different from a self-catered vacation rental. You are renting a room in a family home with access to a full kitchen and a shared bath. In addition, the hone is intended to be a sanctuary in the city for those who practice yoga and meditation, and yoga classes are included with your stay.
The upside of this rental is that it's a good place to relax when you are on vacation, and tire of a frenetic pace of sightseeing. The downside is that the location is not central, so it takes 30 mins by subway to get to Times Square. While there is WiFi in the housr, due to its nature as a restful place, there is no cable or satellite TV. Unfirtunately, the room we had faces the street, so there can be street noise late into the night.
The best thing about this place is the house manager Ghylian and her family. They are quite welcoming and very attentive to your needs. She truly made us feel at home.
This is a great place to stay if you want to feel like you live in New York, and want a place to retreat to after a long day. It's not for you if you want a place to party 24/7.
