Overview

About the property

Close to center, 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom, terrace, 70m2

On the picturesque ancient 17th century Buiksloterdijk in Amsterdam North is our spacious apartment of 80m2 (860 sq. Ft.).

It is an oasis of peace and yet only 10 minutes by bike from Amsterdam center or 6 minutes by bus three stops to Amsterdam Central Station, the middle of town. In fact you are much closer to the city center than most other places in Amsterdam.

The Buiksloterdijk used to be the place where the Dutch East India Company retired captains. The houses where called 'the captains heaven. The water of the IJ river That runs through Amsterdam used to come right to the house. Now it is a polder.

Its like being close to the buzzing scene of Amsterdam and still feel like you're in the countryside. That is why this location is one of the most popular locations of Amsterdam.

The view is beautiful. Overlooking the North Holland Canal. Known cycling and walking routes through rural North and Waterland go directly fits our house.

In front of the house (50m) is the Noorderpark and its brand new (2015) indoor / outdoor swimming pool.

PARKING IS FREE right in front of the house; the bus stop to Amsterdam Central is a few minutes walking away. The bus takes 6 minutes to get to the Central Station (only 3 stops). By car you drive through the IJ tunnel in 5 minutes to reach the center of the town (Waterloo) with ample parking garages.

By bike just follow the cycle path in front of our house to the end and you are at the FREE ferry in seven minutes. The ferry runs every 5/10 minutes day and night. The trip across takes 2 minutes. On the other side you are at the Central Station.

Ook You could walk to the ferry. It is a beautiful stroll along the canal NH.

Walking distance just 25 minutes.

Amsterdam North is the new buzzing district for art, film and specialty restaurants, zoals the IJkantine Stork Hotel or the Golden Pheasant.

You have private access to the entire top floor of our house dike. The apartment has a its own entrance by stairs. On the front is the living room, with lovely views over the canal. There are two separate bedrooms with real king size beds, both 1. 80m x 2. 00m.

At the rear is a sunny terrace. The sun gets there already early in the morning. Ideal if you want to have breakfast outside.

The apartment features a well-equipped kitchenette with an induction cooker, Nespresso machine and all other Necessary equipment. Free coffee and tea are provided.

There is ook a large brand new and super clean bathroom with bath and separate shower.

The recently renovated apartment has free fast Wi-Fi and a flat screen 40 "television with digital cable reception.

We are living in the house ourselves one the ground floor and are always available for help or questions

Pretty Much Perfect

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is in a parklike setting. A narrow paver road between a canal. Most of the traffic is bikes, walkers, and mopeds. It is quiet! The bus stop is about four blocks away. Two busses transport to Amsterdam central. If you have a vehicle parking is on the street directly in front of the apartment. The hosts live downstairs, while apartment is upstairs and has a separate entrance. The apartment is clean, fully equipped and comfortable. There are ample extra linens, comforters, pillows, towels, and hand/shiower/dish soap etc. (this has not always been the case in our VRBO stays). There are plenty of closets and cabinets. It is a small two bedroom apartment , but spacious enough. The kitchen is small with an apartment size refrigerator ( like a half fridge), but adequate for our one week stay.

The host, Rene welcomed us with an apartment and area orientation. On the table was a bottle of wine and Heineken in the fridge. Nice touch! It is convenient to have the host below should you need them. Rene made it clear he was available. He immediately responded to our questions throughout the week, but was not intrusive. We had a great stay and highly recommend it.

As a previous reviewer mentioned --the VRBO site alludes to the apartment having a clothes washer and dryer in the apartment. It does not! The hosts provide laundry service for a fee.

Gracious host. Lovely gardens and view.

Rene is warm, helpful and kind. We loved the comfy cozy apartment. The zen-like garden by the water with hidden benches surrounded by Japanese maples was memorable. Recommend highly!!!!

Great property

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely, well furnished and equipped apartment within easy access to Amsterdam, either by 30 minutes walking along a pretty canal, 10 minutes cycling or just 3 stops on the bus to central station. My wife had an accident cycling in Amsterdam and Rene was very helpful by driving us to the hospital. We recommend not cycling in the Amsterdam rush hour! Otherwise, there is some great cycling nearby along the dykes. We would definitely go back to this apartment.

Spacious, comfortable, beautiful neighborhood with woods nearby, clean, helpful owners. We would love to have stayed longer. Bit of a walk to bus but I am over 70!

Wonderful way to explore Amsterdam!

  • 5 of 5

What a find! Abundant beauty in a charming, historic setting.

The rental was spacious, very comfortable and meticulously clean. The house and garden are amazingly quiet and private. An oasis of calm, yet very close to the crowded, busy city.

René provided us with two bicycles for a very reasonable additional charge. The whole set-up represented excellent value for a convenient and meaningful stay. The kitchen is well-supplied for cooking your own meals, if you wish. A few small restaurants are within walking distance. Or just go nuts eating in Amsterdam!

Our hosts were unobtrusively available and made sure our needs were fully meet. Regrettably, we only speak English. But that was never a problem as René is fluently multilingual. Indeed, we encountered English speakers where ever we went in Amsterdam.

Don't be put off by the location, it's actually a plus. Amsterdam North is very easily reached by way of a free ferry, or by bus. Presumably by car too -- but we did everything by bike.

The Netherlands has an amazing cycling network and some of those bike "highways" are right at your doorstep. We had the best of both worlds: the city was in easy reach and there is a wide scope of very pretty countryside to explore as well. (We cycled to Marken one day, taking a ferry to Volendam to make a round trip of it.)

Experiencing Amsterdam by bike was a treat in itself. Why aren't more cities making that means of transportation a priority? True, I would not recommended cycling if you are timid or unsteady on two wheels. But reasonably good riders will find this a great adventure.

My husband and I would gladly stay here again should we return to Amsterdam and can recommend it very highly to others, particularly cyclists.

Great apartment in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place in Amsterdam that was central for touring North Holland by car and close enough to get into the city centre easily and this house fitted the bill. In a very quiet area (a few shops and a takeaway within walking distance), yet only about 15 minutes to get to Centraal Station. Hosts Renée and Ellen, who live below the apartment, were very welcoming on arrival and the apartment is very well equipped and clean. The only very minor point is that the description mentions a washing machine, whereas the hosts actually offer a laundry service. Would definitely stay again!
