About Nanci Caldwell

Owners both East Coast raised with 50 year family ties to Giants Neck. Brother bought home from Mom's estate so we bought beach front home down street to keep Giants Neck a family retreat for 40 of us to enjoy and share. Over 20 years in Palo Alto, CA helps combine traditional east coast roots with casual, fitness, healthy California lifestyle. Home reflects this in every way...striking views, ten steps to swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding on striking bay, casual 'beach house' interior meant for living in swim suits or casual attire just the way we love to enjoy it!

Nanci Caldwell purchased this house in 2014

Why Nanci Caldwell chose Connecticut Shore

For us, not just a historic family home but a special place. 'Beach House' exudes family and friends, creating every option for family activities at our fingertips. Early am swim? Walk out the door. Ditto for paddle board and kayaking. Private beach but 25 yards off shore is raft that is ground central for neighborhood kids...Walk/Hiking along two miles of pristine beach or through adjacent Rocky Neck State Park...Cloudy day? Access to historic Old Saybrook or Mystic Seaport to experience New England from 1700's. Or 10 minutes to WOW Fitness for exercise, spin, yoga or pilates...Come home to gorgeous sunsets, barbecues, maybe a clambake and into giant living room for family games. And for some wayward family members (LOL) a 20 minute trip to world class Mohegan Casino for a few hands of blackjack...In short, everything we love to do with family and friends right out our door or close by.

Second time here was just a great as the first.

  • 5 of 5

We've already booked our third time (for 2017). Although we already have posted a review here, the house deserves another 5-star from us. As I write this, there are already 8 5-star reviews. The only reason there is even one 3-star review is because they reviewer was unable to book the house again for the week they wanted.

It's simply terrific.

Extremely clean, wonderfully comfortable, and very spacious -- especially the vast great room where we spent nearly all of our indoor time when awake. We are 4 siblings and our spouses and everyone always had plenty of comfortable places to alight. But even when you are indoors, the large panoramic windows let you enjoy the glorious view outdoors. But we come here for the outdoors, right? And Nanci and Chip have provided plenty of tables and chairs for relaxing and dining outside, and plenty of water sport equipment for playing. I really think they have thought of everything, from water shoes and beach towels to paddle boards and kayaks.

The proximity to the beach and the water cannot be beat. Step out of the house, walk down the stairs of the sea wall, and you are there. Maybe 20 seconds if you're slow on your feet. And if you enjoy sea birds, the egrets, cormorants, terns, and gulls put on a delightful show from the rocky "islands" just a stone's throw off shore.

We've rented the beach house beginning with the first year it was offered by Nanci and Chip. We sincerely hope they find a way for returnees to get first shot at renewing!

2nd times a charm!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd year at the fabulous "Beach House". Great home, location, amenities, owners and local manager/handyman. Ted, the handyman, is a real gem. This house has everything you need for your beach vacation. We were there for two weeks this year and last with our children, their spouses and grandchildren. We had two new additions to our group this year. One about nine months and the other just over a year. The proximity to the water is ideal for this situation. The mothers are able to keep an eye on the older ones on the beach while being able to hear a waking infant inside.

Convenient location for everyone. Easy access for the Connecticut residents as well as Boston and an easy drive from airports in Hartford and Providence. We all loved the house and location. I think the first words out of every mouth when first entering the living room was, let's buy it or I want it. The view is spectacular and the proximity to the water is so very rare. The owners have done a fantastic job outfitting for rental. We have not rented a lot, but the only house we ever rented that came close to the unexpected amenities provided was in the Outer Banks, which is known for going overboard. The house has kayaks, paddle boards, bikes, wet-suits, like jackets, lawn games, kids toys & games and more.

You can't imagine the joy of watching the children (ages 8, 8 & 5) dash out the door, jump off the sea wall, and head into the water.

We have friends in Giants Neck, Black Point, Point O Woods and Essex so we were able to spend a little time with all of them while there without anyone leaving the beach.

The owners, Nanci and Chip, seemed so pleasant via email and made every effort to answer all questions and accommodate our requests. They made the entire transaction very easy and our family vacation a huge hit with everyone. Thank you Nanci & Chip.

All in all, we loved it. I'll keep you all posted next summer.

Rent early!

  • 3 of 5

The house is great and everything included is above and beyond. Book early. 4 days after we completed our vacation we tried to rent for the following year and it was already reserved. It was disappointing that we did not have the opportunity to keep our same week for vacationing with our families and create these ongoing memories with a single location.

Owner's Response: Craig, we're glad you enjoyed your stay and we're very sorry not to have you back next year as we love having you and your family as guests at our beach house. We were actually surprised at how quickly the beach house booked up for next summer and we do want to find a way to offer it first to our return guests. There is one week available in August and we would be happy to book that for you if the timing works for your family. All the best, Nanci

Our Having Booked The Beach HouseAgain Says It All

  • 5 of 5

We have already booked again for next year. We are four siblings and our four spouses. In the past, we had rented in MA and RI, but when we rented The Beach House we unanimously agreed it is the best. Why?

Right ON a beautiful sandy private beach with Rocky Neck State Park's public beach, hiking and biking trails a few minutes away. Wonderful house with everything we needed and graced with a remarkable front room with panoramic windows facing the water. Kayaks, paddle boards, life jackets, bicycles, two refrigerators, provided linens, towels and even beach towels! Fully equipped kitchen, new bathrooms, comfy beds -- all we could ask for. Loved it.

Plus, the owners, Nanci and Chip are congenial and very accommodating.

We'd Give it More Than 5 Stars if We Could!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this beautiful Beach House for our family vacation (our children and grandchildren.) There were 10 of us, 6 adults and 4 children, ages 10 months - 5 1/2 years. The house and beach couldn't have been more perfect. The house is right on the water which is fabulous. The way the living area is laid out and the way the furniture is set up, even with 4 busy kids, we had plenty of room to spread out The wrap around patio doors gave the living area an even more spacious, open feel. The house was immaculate and wonderfully decorated. Every detail had been considered. The owners thought of absolutely everything anyone could possibly ask for in a vacation home - and then some. The water was crystal clear and everyone enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming. The neighborhood is charming. Just right for taking a walk, jogging, or biking. We had one day of rain, but there is plenty to do in the area (Mystic Aquarium, downtown Mystic, outlet stores, great restaurants, and more.) It was a magical week of memory making. We definitely plan on returning!

Great! Great! Great!

  • 5 of 5

Actually more than three. Great home, location, amenities, owners and local manager/handyman. This house has everything you need for your beach vacation. We were there for two weeks with our children, their spouses and grandchildren. The property manager, Ted is a real gem. We only called once shortly after arrival with a few questions. He responded quickly and stopped in to say hello the next day. He gave the impression that we could call several times a day and he would not be put out.

It was convenient for everyone in our family. Most of the stuff we

thought we might need ended up staying in the cars or garage. The house has kayaks, paddle boards, bikes, wet-suits, like jackets, lawn games, kids toys & games and more.

You can't imagine the joy of watching the children (ages 7,7 & 4) dash out the door, jump off the sea wall, and head into the water.

We have friends in Black Point, Point O Woods and Essex so we were able to spend a little time with all of them while there. Some other friends from San Francisco rented in Groton Long Point and one week overlapped. We were able to spend time with them without anyone leaving the beach. We also found some old friends living in Giants Neck.
