About Paul Granier

My family of four have lived in the North Dallas area for the better part of 20 years. All of us have grown up in Texas and my wife and I have gone to university in Texas. And now we run a staffing/search firm in Dallas. We like getting away from it all from time to time and this is one of the main reasons we bought this fantastic cabin.

Paul Granier purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Paul Granier chose Smithville

We bought this cabin because we were looking for a quick getaway place near water that was within easy reach of Dallas. We had looked and looked but had never found a place that had an attractive lake, a great lot and a beautiful cabin on it. When I saw this one, I knew that that we had found the one we had been looking for and bought it immediately. This cabin, bought brand new in 2014, was built with personal pride that shows. It is immaculately furnished. It sits on 2.8 acres of mostly wooded land. And the 30-acre+ Legacy Trails Cabins neighborhood will be all vacation rental cabins set on 2-3 acres each with views of trees, rolling hills, creeks, wildlife and the Upper Mountain Fork river. Trust me, I am sure you will love it as much as we did when we discovered it.

What makes this cabin unique

If you want a secluded, peaceful getaway that is still close to the action, look no further. This cabin is set on 2.8 acres and is completely private. The view from the back deck is amazing and the Mountain Fork River is accessible from two different locations. Fishermen will love this location, for sure. Also, the river makes for an incredible kayaking experience. Check out the pictures to get a feel for the section of river where Legacy Trails keeps the kayaks.

The cabin is very high end and the beautiful workmanship on both the inside and the outside of the cabin are simply amazing. Just check out the pictures of the family room and kitchen!

There are many outside sitting areas. From the full length front porch with swing, the back porch for those that only want a 'little' nature to the fire pit area for those that truly want to 'feel' the outdoors. Make sure to look up at night and see the stars like you have never seen before.

The master bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a full size bed. There is also a queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with the latest in appliances and conveniences and there is even a laundry room with a full size washer and dryer.

And being the gadget guy that I am, I could not do without an excellent surround sound system and Blu-ray DVD player. There is a whole assortment of movies and games to choose from, but no satellite TV service. Didn't you come here to enjoy the outdoors anyway?

But for those of you that cannot live without internet, wireless internet is available (please limit video streaming to one movie per day).

As far as phone service, AT&T Wireless and Pine Cellular work well from within the cabin.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a great stay. Thank you! Thank you for making our first Valentine's Day so great. We really appreciate the heart shaped decorations and the chocolates. Hope to come again soon.

peaceful stay

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I really enjoyed the cabin. It was beautiful and very clean. Comfy beds also. If you are looking to truly get away this is the place for you. The only thing I would give a heads up on is this house is really on a hillside and it is bit treacherous to get down to the water.

Beautiful Cabin and Secluded Property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful stay! The cabin is fully stocked with all of the essentials. Comfortable bedding, linens, and towels. Secluded cabin right on the side of a hill, with beautiful surroundings and nearby river for fishing! Very quiet and relaxing. Owner was extremely helpful and quick to resond to our questions.

Clean beautiful cabin but storage space for clothes is much needed.

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is beautiful, and very clean, the sights around the cabin are beautiful.

I gave it three stars because their is only one closet in one of the bedrooms and neither bedroom has a dresser.. In one bedroom their is a beautiful carving of a bear, but a dresser would make more sense

The cabin was beautiful.

The man there I believe his name is Darin, he was very helpful and so nice to us. It was our 40th annervarsy and he bought our dinner one night. That was so sweet. I loved your cabin. We plan to come back in the summer we didn't get to see much because of the fog but we had a great time!

Clean cabin, but backyard and river area tricky

  • 3 of 5

Inside of cabin is very nice and it was clean upon arrival. However the backyard does have a severe slope - not the easiest to get down to the fire pit. Once there though it's great - enjoyed 2 beautiful starry nights. Regarding the slope, I found numerous pieces of broken glass on the hill. I was there with 2 small children, and this was definitely a concern for me and my wife. Regarding the kayaks - there is no way that we could have used them. The method to get into the river was not safe, and I would never even attempt it. Also, the "Bug guy" came to kill the ants on the property while I was there. He was going to drop granuals to kill the fire ants. I told him that I'd rather him not as the kids are going in and out of the house - who wants fire ant granuals all over their kids. Granted, he was cool about it and left without an issue. I guess I was surprised that this wasn't taken care of ahead of time. Had we not been there we would have has an issue. So for what it's worth, the cabin itself was nice, but a few of the things that went along with it were not.

Owner's Response: March 2018 Update: Exciting news for future guests!!! We just installed concrete stairs with metal handrails to make is very easy to get into the river now. I will post pictures in the next week or so... John, I am really glad that you enjoyed our cabin and sorry that we did not fully meet your expectations. I will make sure to address the ant and broken glass situation. Regarding the hill on the back side of the cabin, this is the first time we have received a negative comment on that, but we will look to see if there is something we can do to have easier access to the fire pit. On the river and kayak access, I do agree it is a bit challenging to get into the river especially when the river is at its low point. We are working on a new ladder with handrail solution that we plan to install in the Spring in order to make river access easier in varying river conditions. Thanks for your feedback, Paul
