Honfleur is 200 kilometres from Paris, a two-hour drive all on motorway. From Calais it is 280 kilometers, also all on motorway. International airport at Deauville.
From Honfleur you can visit the Normandy World War II D-day beaches and the war cemeteries, plus the many war museums in the area including the museum at Caen. There are lots of châteaux and monuments nearby in the area, including the basilica at Lisieux. In summer the area is alive with outdoor shows, antique markets and special events.
Honfleur is well-known for its flowers and parks, regularly winning prizes as a "flowered town". The beach at Honfleur is very non-commercial and looks out over Le Havre on the other side of the river Seine. It is a very safe sandy beach, has a lifeguard and a paddling pool and play facilities for children.
All along this coast the sandy beaches are very safe, the water being shallow for a long distance out. There are yacht marinas and also casinos at both Trouville and Deauville where shows and dinner dances are held regularly. Several horse riding centres are nearby, as well as golf courses and horse racing events take place regularly in Deauville. From Honfleur it is possible to make a day trip to:
The D-Day beaches of the Second World War, and the American, British and German war cemetaries, in particular the war cemetary at Omaha Beach with 3,000 graves of American soldiers. Also not to be missed, the town of Arromanches, with relics of Churchill's floating port build for the DD landings, its very interesting museum about the port, and the exclusive 360 degree cinema with war correspondents' films from that period
Mont St. Michel, the most visited town in France
Caen, and its war museum, plus the numerous war museums in the area
