Jacksonville is a great place and I've lived here for 30+ years. There's lots to do- boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, surfing, cycling and fishing. I've enjoyed all of these activities over the years but fishing has become my passion. And it is great to enjoy such great fishing in your own backyard. I also love to travel and have been all over for work and play.
John Atchison purchased this house in 1985
This property fell into my lap when another house I was interested in buying nearby was sold before I could make an offer. It was my serendipitous good fortune because this was a haven for me for over 20 years until family needs required us to move closer to town. I'm happy that we can share the peace we have enjoyed here for years to adventurers from far and near.
This spacious home feels like it belongs in the natural setting it's located in. Our guests will feel a special peace and tranquility as soon as they turn down the canopied road with huge live oaks shading the way.
My wife, four sisters and I wanted to get together for a family vacation near my brother. We decided to stay at this house instead of renting several hotel rooms on the beaches near Jacksonville. It was a great choice. We were able to go to wonderful beaches without crowds, visit the shops at Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, and had plenty of room for the entire group to spread out around the house. There is a large kitchen, dining area and living room, plus a small sitting area on the second floor. The wrap-around porch is fantastic, and each bedroom is larger than many hotel rooms.
We each took responsibility to prepare one meal, and saved a lot of money compared to going to restaurants.
During our stay, we saw a gopher tortoise, a bald eagle competing with an osprey for a fish, a large owl, butterflies, small birds, and many other wild animals. But, we encountered no wild tourists.
The house was very comfortable and exceeded our needs. This is not a 5 star vacation destination; but, for a relaxing family vacation without the crowds, it was perfect.
If you want the party atmosphere of tourist beaches, stay away. If you desire a relaxing vacation with family and friends, this is the ideal place.
Spacious, peaceful, and private. We had a great weekend. If you want to get away and relax for a little while, this is the perfect place.
Loved this place.
Our stay was everything that we had hoped for and more. The highlight of every day was kicking back on the back porch and seeing the beautiful sunsets. A home away from home, to be sure.
My family, (all adults), loved the property. The 1.3 mile drive down the gravel road was like driving through a hidden jungle of beautiful foliage. It made it seem very remote and added to the mystique. The house itself is like a southern plantation and exquisitely furnished. Everything was spacious and relaxing. The deck and access to it is very cool. We all enjoyed it and have nothing bad to comment on. It does not have WiFi however, the cell service is good and we have no problem using the personal hotspot.
Location: Private, quiet, beautiful
House: Immaculate with a master bed/bath to die for. Kitchen with everything you need. Extremely comfortable furniture and beds.
Grounds: Lovely location down a canopied drive off the highway, situated to take advantage of sunset views
This is a perfect location to enjoy the outdoors and the natural beauty that surrounds Talbot Island State Park, Amelia Island State Park, and Fort George Island. Miles of deserted beaches are minutes from the house. Fishing is world class. There are kayak and bicycles available for rental at a nearby business that is five minutes away. Shopping, fine dining, golf, tennis, historical sites, museums are all very close even though you will enjoy quiet intimacy of your own natural paradise.
