This historic apartment building has been beautifully restored.

The private suites feature hardwood floors throughout open floor plans. Huge original casement wavy glass windows filter magnificent natural light. Each apartment is creatively decorated with local art, antiques and modern amenities that epitomize the chic eclecticness of everything Asheville.

Its central location is just a few blocks to restaurants, bars and grocery stores. It’s less than 1 mile to downtown and Grove Park Inn. 2 miles to Beaver Lake and 15 minutes to the Blue Ridge Pkwy and the Biltmore Estate. There is 1 queen size bed, and a sleeper sofa in the living room. Each apartment has a 39” flat screen HD TV, WiFi, stainless steel appliances, coffee maker, microwave and washer/dryer access.

About Shay Amber Bollt

My husband and I have a great love of historic architecture, antiques and art. We have been restoring old homes in Asheville since 2000. In 2013, we decided to combine our passions by creating these inspired spaces for guests to stay while they explore all the vibrant culture and beautiful mountains found in and around Asheville.

Wonderful stay at The Sparrow! Very comfy. Great location.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Sparrow. We had everything we needed for our visit. Located in a lovely art deco building on the north side of the city the Sparrow was very clean, comfortable and provided everything we needed. The mattress was comfy and there was plenty of closet room. The owner is easy to reach and very accommodating. We had plenty of space, and a functional kitchen to prepare meals. It's an easy walk to local restaurants, or into the downtown area. The TV provide a good variety of stations, and internet was a welcome addition. It was a very short drive to theaters, breweries and night spots (the cold weather during our stay meant we opted for the drive but it is very walkable to town.). Grocery stores are very close and the proximity to UNC is great. We felt very much at home and look forward to our next stay. We will be back for sure! When you come don't miss the farmers market, live entertainment spots, beautiful vistas, museums, breweries, dancing, and all the quirkiness that makes Asheville unique.

Great property but needs a new bed!!!

We mostly enjoyed our stay in the sparrow property. The apartment was one of 4 in small building, 2 upper and 2 lower. The apartment was very clean and well equipped! It was cold at night during our stay and the heat was plenty adequate. The kitchen was nicely equipped and spotless. The showers were hot and bathroom was very clean! We walked to downtown all 4 days of our stay. It was not a bad hike even though it is hilly. We enjoyed breakfast at Homegrown around the corner! Owner communication was excellent! We would love to give 5 stars, but our only complaint was the bed. I have not slept on one that uncomfortable, besides a sofa bed, in many, many years! I don't expect a tempur pedic mattress, but this was not the least bit comfortable, and was very squeaky too. I'm admittedly particular about pillows and did not find the ones available at all comfortable either. This is a great property otherwise, but a good night's sleep would have made it tremendous!

Owner's Response: We really appreciate the positive review, and for mentioning the bed. Guests usually say the beds are super comfortable, so we looked into it immediately. It was an easy fix and the bed feels great now. One of the supporting posts underneath became loose/misaligned and needed to be put back in place and secured. I’ve asked new guests about the comfort of the bed, and they have been very pleased. Thank you also for complimenting our great communication. All guests are welcome and encouraged to contact us – day or night – with problems or concerns. We would have welcomed the opportunity to check the bed when you first noticed it was a problem and fixed it at your convenience. Also, we offer a variety of firm, medium and soft pillows in the hallway closet so you can choose the right ones for you. While problems are very rare, it’s important to us to address those that do come up right away. The quality and comfort of your stay is very important to us.  It’s wonderful to read that you enjoyed the apartment and the close proximity to downtown. Having the Homegrown restaurant on the corner is a highlight for many of our guests. It’s one of our favorite places for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We're glad you liked it.

Excellent location & cool neighborhood

This cozy apartment was very clean & comfy. THe owners put interesting artistic touches throughout the apt. They were readily accessible when I needed them, but otherwise I never saw them. The neighbors were incredible & friendly. Clean & polished.

Quaint Apartment

Overall we enjoyed our stay. It was very close to downtown and made for a nice "home base" for the many activities and places to see in downtown Asheville. The property boasted that it slept 4. However, after booking we were required to pay $30 additional dollars per each guest over 2 people. If this had been disclosed prior to booking I would not have been an issue. The email explained, "$30 extra fee for each additional guest to cover the cost of cleaning and extra linen, etc." While there were 8 towels for our use, there was only one set of bed sheets for the full bed in the master bedroom as well as the pullout couch. Luckily we brought our own sheets so this wasn't an issue. Still having paid an extra $60 I would have enjoyed the sheets being supplied.

Please also consider adding more mirrors to this property (there are two small mirrors, one very old as it fits with the decor of this lovely apartment).

Also an ironing board and iron would have been nice.

All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: We’re glad that you enjoyed your stay. We understand that one likes surprise fees, and we’d never have earned so many 5 star ratings without, clear communication. So for your sake (and for anyone who may be considering staying with us) We want to address each of your concerns. You may not have read the listing, but the costs associated with additional guests are explained on the listing, without ambiguity. When you sent the booking request, we emailed you regarding this extra fee for the additional guests, so you would be in full knowledge of, and pre approve the extra cost, before your booking was confirmed. As we stated, “You'll need to approve and accept the quote before your credit card is charged.” You did approve and accept these charges prior to the booking. This fee is passed directly to our hard working cleaning staff, because the extra laundry and cleaning simply takes more time. We do provide 2 sets of freshly cleaned linens for each sleep surface (both the queen size bed and queen size sleeper sofa). You were only with us for 3 days, so if you spilled something or otherwise soiled the sheets, we’re happy to get you an extra set at anytime. The iron and ironing board (along with all other items described in our listing) are here for you to use. If you had trouble locating these items or needed anything not listed, we would have been happy to get them to you, had we known. Most importantly … we provide our cell phone numbers and invite guests to reach out anytime with concerns or needs. We’re friendly, easy to talk to and happy to address any issue. Clear communication and guest satisfaction are very important to us, so I’m sorry we did not hear from you during your stay. If you choose to stay with us again, please know that we’re happy to hear from our guests and we’re always just a text message or phone call away. P.S. – We’ll certainly consider adding some more mirrors and appreciate the feedback. :)

Just right!

This apartment had lots of character, a little quirky, with a French country vibe. We had everything we needed to be comfortable and fairly close to downtown. I loved the extra touches with just a few art books, ‘lace’ painted floor in the entry coupled with unusual furniture pieces, and a big handmade afghan on the living room couch to cuddle up in. There was also a peaceful view out of the back bedroom window. Everything was sparkling clean.
