About Kate Van Sickler

We rented this cabin for many years before purchasing it in 2013. It was during our annual visit we noticed a lockbox on the back porch. We instantly jumped on the chance to own this small piece of paradise. We gutted the kitchen and added granite counters and stainless steel appliances. We continue to make improvements to our slice of paradise. Our future projects will be an outside fire pit and lounge area.

Kate Van Sickler purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Kate Van Sickler chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

We love the location and the view. We keep this as home base while we continue to explore western North Carolina. Close to Waynesville, Sylva, Canton, Maggie Valley etc.

What makes this cabin unique

We loved the idea of owning a log home. We especially love sitting on the back porch listening to the sounds of the river. Taking walks down by the river at Rivermont ~simply never gets old. During the cooler months - there is nothing better than a crackling fire in the wood burning fireplace. MAX guest 6

Simple cabin with lovely wrap around porch

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 1.5 year old and I stayed here for the Lake Logan Triathlon. It was a great location, about 2.5 miles from the start and right on the bike course. My husband raced Saturday and I raced Sunday, so we were able to spectate each other from the house driveway without pulling the toddler down to the race location all day. The cabin itself is very simply furnished, but you have everything you need. We really enjoyed sitting out on the rocking chairs and enjoying the view. We walked down to the little creak to dip our feet in, very calming!

Pleasant hideaway on the hill

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this cabin offers a lot of value in a small package at a reasonable price. The main (entry) level has a tidy kitchen, dining, and living room area that was adequate for our party of three adults. The sleeping quarters are upstairs (master) and downstairs (two airy rooms). The balcony on the main level is a wonderful feature (especially the rocking chairs!) - puts the rental ahead of many others for this alone. Other niceties include attractive interior due to a recent renovation, Dish Network HD television, Wifi, telephone (local calls only), and dishwasher. What fell short of expectations were several items that didn't work (Jacuzzi tub, MBA ceiling light, light at bottom of stairs), the parsimonious supply of towels in the bathrooms, and the lack of clear guidance on the communal areas by the river. Some of the pictures should be updated, and descriptions included, so prospective renters don't have to use their imagination as to the lay of the land.

This is a beautiful log home with plenty of room for a family. Grandparents included. Nice grassy play area down the hill plus a river to play in.

perfect riverfront home/community.

  • 5 of 5

This home / community was exactly what we were looking for. Great access to river. Great views of the mountains. Yet close enough to access Waynesville/Canton/Asheville.

Great Hiking

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was nice. Waynesville was a cute town not quite on the scale of Asheville. The fireplace was great at keeping the main floor nice and toasty and firewood was provided. The cabin does appear bigger in the pictures but for our family of four and our small dog it was perfect. There are neighbors in close proximity so probably not for you if your looking for seclusion. The best thing about the cabin is location to great waterfall hiking in a few different directions all within a 40 minute or less drive. The Blue Ridge is also quickly accessible. The driveway was not to steep where snow would of made it a problem to get up. No 4 wheel drive needed here. Once again the accessibility to great hiking makes this location a plus.
