One large bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the smaller one has a double bed and an outside entrance. They share a bathroom with a shower. All towels and sheets are furnished. The living area includes a cozy living room and a fully-equipped kitchen with eating area. There's a washer and dryer in the bathroom. The larger bedroom and the living room have satellite-tv and wireless internet is available throughout the house.
A large wrap-around porch lets you enjoy our wildlife and beautiful creekside environment here in the Gila country.
The guest house is situated on twelve acres about three miles from downtown Silver City. Perfect for your stay in our beautiful area whether you want to browse the galleries, shops and museums downtown or hike in the beautiful Gila National Forest about one mile away. Quiet, comfortable and welcoming.
The main house on the property houses our High-Lonesome Bookshop with new and used books about the west, hunting and fishing, natural history, country living and local history.
You must cross through a small creek to get to our property. Please check during the monsoon season (July-September) to see if we recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
We own and operate a by-appointment and internet book store and publishing business in our home. Dutch is a writer and Cherie runs the business end of our book business.
Cherie Salmon purchased this cottage in 1989
Close to the National Forest with a rural feeling and also close to town.
Quiet and country-like, but only 5 minutes from town.
Stayed 6 days at Cherie's "casita." Enjoyed every every minute of it; quite a difference from staying in a boring motel room. Here, it's like coming home and relaxing after a day out. Everything one could possibly need, other than food, is there for one's convenience. It's close enough to downtown to make several trips at one's whim. Great place to stay in if you are visiting Grant County.
We had a most relaxing three nights at the High Lonesome guest house enjoying the quiet. Next time we'll stay longer!
Our overall experience was very good. The Casita was as described and photographed. Our Host met us upon arrival showed us around and left us alone. The casita was comfortable and quiet. August Nights cooled off nicely and we were very comfortable with the windows open. We went primarily to see the Gila Cliff Dwellings. We used the kitchen for our meals and that worked out great. I usually only give 5 stars for properties that go above and beyond, so don't let the 4 stars scare you off. If we ever go back to Silver City we would not hesitate to stay here again. Location, casita, our host and price were great!!
thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very quiet & tranquil. The casita was very clean, & nicely decorated. There were a lot of spices, coffee & bottled water and many more kitchen & toiletries available for our use in case we forgot something. We did not do any cooking since we had commitments while in Silver City. The directions on how to get to the property were perfect. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to our friends.
The house was very clean and had all the essentials. we enjoyed our stay.
A lovely little casita just outside of Silver City, very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the birds singing and the covered porches on 3 sides. Cherri was most helpful and we enjoyed browsing and shopping in the book store too. Will definitely try to return.
