Enjoy the newly renovated "Storefront"! Right on Main St, in the heart of downtown Grand Marais!
With its incomparable view of the Harbor, Sailboats, Lighthouse and Coast Guard Station, is the ONLY private home rental in Downtown Grand Marais on the Harbor. The view is what it is all about!
The Storefront is the main floor below the legendary Artist Loft Vacation Rental (vrbo 199006). Ask about booking both units for larger groups. Both units can be joined together, and can sleep 10.
The Storefront is right in the heart of downtown Grand Marais on beautiful Harbor Park. It was formerly a barbershop, an photography gallery as well as a jewelry store. The fresh remodel incorporates rustic, industrial, reclaimed wood and exposed brick in a very cozy, warm way. It is a great home-base for enjoying the gentle activity of the Village or easily getting away for day trips to the BWCA. Drive up the Gunflint Trail for day adventures and hikes, but stay at The Storefront to experience all that downtown has to offer...just footsteps out the front door.
The Storefront has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The main bedroom has a queen bed, while the 2nd bedroom boasts cozy built in Queen Bunks!
Even though The Storefront is right downtown on the harbor front, it is graced with a gorgeous secluded quiet off street wildflower garden with decks and lounging chairs and tables to relax in the sun or have a intimate outside breakfast lunch or dinner. Cook in with our fully equipped kitchen or get it to go, semi-catered from a choice of several fabulous restaurants. Your own private campfires in the backyard at night.
In the evening, step next door to the Gunflint Tavern and enjoy a microbrew or Mojito in the 'Ravens Nest' lake-view deck and then listen to world class music in the early evening. The music at 'The Tavern' ranges from gentle Gypsy Jazz to Folk and Folk Rock for the occasional night of dancing. Keep in mind you are "downtown" Grand Marais, so there is the activity of being around the shopping, the activity of the tourists, and a little bit of the nightlife. But that's part of the fun. Fortunately that all ends pretty early in Grand Marais as everything pretty much shuts down around 10:00 or 11:00 pm.
Wake with the gulls in the morning sun and enjoy the quiet solitude of downtown as it gently comes to life. Stroll to the Pie Place, walk to the Crooked Spoon Restaurant, Angry Trout Cafe, Harbor House Restaurant, Voyageur Brewing Taproom and grab breakfast at the Blue Water Cafe for breakfast. All short walks. You have it ALL at The Storefront!
The thing to remember about The Storefront is that every day is a beautiful magical day whether it is sunny and warm or stormy and wild; all year round nature's magic unfolds right in front of you over the greatest of lakes, Lake Superior!
A little History about The Storefront & Artist Loft:
It was built in the early 1900s by Chet Boisvert. Chet was the village barber and the shop was equipped with showers for the lumberjacks to come in from the woods for a hot shower. He was also an avid Democrat and held party meetings at the Loft on Main Street. In the guest book it was found that his grandchildren had stayed here and left an entry in the guestbook telling of heartwarming memories such as...
- ' The last time I slept in this bedroom was 43 years ago. I can still remember hearing my people cheering at 6 am when they announced the Victory of Harry Truman over Dewey in 1948!'
- 'I remember watching, from the front windows, pulp boats loading logs from the thousands of logs floating in the harbor'
You can still feel those memories as you gaze out the windows and still see fishing boats and sailboats bobbing in the breezes.
Come share the Magic!
Hi there! Our names are Amy, Joel and our son Max. We have two pups named Myron & Fletcher. We spend time on our classic 1967 Chris Craft Wooden Cruiser on the St. Croix River when we're not spending time in Grand Marais and traveling to other places.
Joel Saint John Dodson & Amy Hinger purchased this apartment in 2015
Joel spent his summers in Grand Marais as a child. After a long lapse in visiting the north shore, we started making it a yearly Memorial Day tradition, and for Max's birthday. After staying at the Artist Loft we fell in love with it immediately! After finding out that it was for sale, we fell in love with it even more. There really is no other place like it in all of Grand Marais.
It's your own apartment, right in the heart of downtown Grand Marais. The Gunflint Tavern is your next door neighbor, and all of the other restaurants are a stones throw away. But seclude yourself if the backyard with your own fire, and a bottle of wine:)
Fantastic place to stay! Great location, owners were very accommodating and didn't miss a beat from decor down to me finding the wine opener in he first spot I looked! I would recommend this to anyone.
This is a wonderful property, and the location can't be beat! We'll definitely be back again.
We will definitely be back! The location is prime for shopping, walking and dining. The Storefront was clean and cozy and provided us with all the comforts of home. What a great little gem in Grand Marais. Thanks for the stay!
The Storefront is a fantastic find, tucked in between the Ben Franklin and the GFT. We LOVED our honeymoon stay here and found it to be the perfect location and oasis for a relaxing Grand Marais weekend. We enjoyed the artistic touches in the unit, including a vintage record player. The foot traffic outside is a little noisy, but not bad during the weekend and it quiets down by 11pm. Worth it to stay in such a special spot! The owners were great to work with and I would highly recommend this unit - we'll be back!
The place is comfortable, quiet and convenient to shops, bars and restaurants as well as being across from the harbor. The backyard is a quiet sanctuary to sit by the fire and sip on a glass of wine. We will definitely be back!
My dad, who has trouble walking, found the property to be within walking distance of food, art galleries and amazing views. We enjoyed the location and super comfy beds. Can't wait to visit again and spend more time.
