What makes this chateau / country house unique

The house is an oasis of peace and tranquility. Fibbiano is a pedestrian village and it's great to walk its streets without the presence of the cars. Kids can venture through the streets where they will find chickens, rabbits and even the cows! The small garden has wonderful views and you will spend unforgettable moments. There's a hammock where you can relax, a beautiful wood pool to cool off, and deck chairs to enjoy the view and relax. The beaches of Versilia are only 40 minutes away and the beautiful city of Lucca is 30 minutes away. A 1 km from the house is a very good local restaurant, where inside there is also a small convenience store.

In Fibbiano there are no shops.

The house is located on top of a hill. to reach it

you have to make 6 km trada with curves ... But this small sacrifice will be rewarded by the magnificent view over the plain of Lucca !

Glorious medieval house on hillside in village lost in time

  • 5 of 5

It was 9 at night and dark by the time we arrived at the piazza where we were to park for Casa Vittoria and we were aware that there was still a small walk to be made to get to the villa, but we didn't really know the address or how to get to the front door. Never fear though as Lorenza texted me just as we were arriving and appeared just a few moments later with a wheelbarrow to take our luggage up the narrow cobbled lane to the house where Vittoria was also waiting to show us around the house. They gave us a warm welcome and had the log fire burning for us. Their house is very old, large and full of character - great wooden beams spanning the rooms and wooden and tiled floors. Vittoria and Lorenzo clearly have artistic souls as all around the house are drawings and paintings giving the rooms a great feeling of warmth and taste whilst at the same time family friendly - evidence of their kids are all over the place with drawings, games and books.

There were four of us staying here a week, my wife and myself and my two kids aged 16 and 17 and we all had our own bedrooms which were very comfy and private. Some of the doors wouldn't close properly but this all just added to the character of the place. Next morning was sunny and around 25 degrees - in October! Breakfast was at the small patio overlooking the mountains and apart from the sound of birds and distant barking of dogs, their was silence - not a car to be heard. The village of Fibbiano itself and its ancient stone houses are like something out of a medieval painting.

As for things to do, I would definitely recommend Lucca. Plenty of cafes and restaurants and a walk round the city wall is a must. We also went to a cave up in the mountains and did some hiking in the Passe de Croce. We went to the beach one day and even though it was around 25 degrees the sands were deserted.

So the house itself, the village and Tuscan countryside were all fantastic and everything we could want but there were some small negatives. The first is the driving - you need to be confident and aggressive to survive. Second is more a niggle that a negative but the owner of the bar/restaurant in Castello down from Fibbiano charged me £12 for a bottle of very ordinary wine to take away- so be warned - on the other hand we went to their pizza night on Saturday and had totally delicious pizzas so not all bad! Lastly the road up to the village from the main road is very narrow and twisty - nerves of steel required.

Beautiful !

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful old house, furnished with artits taste.

Peace and quiet, far away from civilization (a 10 minute drive winding narrow road). Wonderful views , beautiful garden, and fresh cool air. A huge relief after a hot exploring the Tuscan towns.

Most importantly - comfortable beds ! House well equipped.

The nearest big shop 10-minute drive from the house - a large selection of good food. We found there pear "mostarda", and it's a lot cheaper than in Lucca.

In the vicinity of very nice restaurants with delicious local food.

Only one thing was not ok - bad closing the door to the bedroom;)

Our door shut with a fieldstone stone;)))

Other things very well ! I recommend the house and vacation in Fibbiano.

Erholsame Tage in ruhiger Lage

  • 5 of 5

  • 3 of 5

Geschmackvolles Haus in abgelegenem Bergdorf

  • 4 of 5

lovely house in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a brilliant week in this well equipped and comfortable house. The views over the mountains are amazing. We loved our evenings just sitting and eating all fresco under the olive tree or alternatively in the other outside dining area. A truly Italian experience. You will need a car but Lucca is easy to reach. A small bar and restaurant with welll stocked shop are not far down the hill and a supermarket not far though at the bottom of the hill which takes 15 minutes by car and negotiation of the many hairpins needed (though easy ones).

in the area there are many cultural activities especially during the 'summer: concerts of the Summer Festival of Lucca, the Puccini Opera Festival in Torre del Lago. Located just 1 km from the house is a great pizza restaurant, which also has a small grocery store, and there is also another great restaurant 2 km, where in summer you can eat outside with a view of the sea. The Versilia coast is 40 minutes away, Forte dei Marmi in half an hour. The Cinque Terre is an hour away. Our village borders the Apuan Alps Park, a beautiful place to go hiking every level
