Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday townhome in Silver Bay - Windsong Cottage

On Lake Superior, Grand view, hear waves, Luxury 3 bedroom & 3 bath, 1570 sq ft

We invite you to come and vacation in our three bedroom, well-appointed and comfortable vacation home located in the desired town home community of Windsong Cottages. It boasts a commanding view of Lake Superior the largest fresh water lake in the world! Our Windsong Cottage is perched on a rocky ridge of the waters edge and pebbled with beautiful trees beneath the deck! Come and unwind as you soak in the soothing sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks right in front of our home.

These two to three unit town homes are enveloped down in a beautiful valley off of Highway 61 at the edge of the charming town of Beaver Bay, MN which is the oldest settlement on the North Shore. As you drive down into the protected valley of the Windsong Cottages, you experience the peaceful community of these town homes, with Lake Superior as the back drop, glistening on a sunny day! You immediately notice these cottages are up-scale, hand crafted homes that are aesthetically landscaped, well maintained and you feel you are in for a nice vacation experience.

Our 1570 square foot vacation home is nestled in the community of lake front Windsong Cottages which boasts some of the best unobstructed views of the Lake. We have a single, narrow pine tree that majestically stands at our decks edge and adorns the breathtaking view of this portion of Lake Superior. Below the deck are various types of trees that stud the shoreline to make the various seasons on the shore magical.

Our vacation home is uniquely furnished with Old Hickory Furniture throughout that has been handcrafted and is typically found in iconic, upscale lodges and resorts since 1899. The quality and rustic comfort are the hallmarks of Old Hickory furniture and makes our vacation home so inviting. Our cottage’s décor has style encompassing many elements of the theme of Lake Superior, its many moods, and the surrounding woods.

It accommodates up to six guests depending on what sleeping arrangements you are looking for. It has three private bedrooms that claim a bathroom for each. Our home showcases a beautifully appointed Master Suite again featuring Old Hickory furniture and north woods lodge décor. The prominent, king size bed highlights this room hosting a supremely comfortable mattress with rich linens. The height of this bed allows you to see the entire panoramic view out the bay windows that encase the complete front of the bedroom. There is nothing better than watching the sunrise or moon rise from your bed! The suite features a Jacuzzi tub at the windows edge for retreating into after a long day on the shore. The suite also includes furnishings such as: dresser with enough drawers to accommodate all your clothes and TV on TV stand. A few steps away and you enter a large bathroom with large closet, and attached toilet and shower room with heated floors.

Our Windsong Cottage accommodates other guests with two additional, nicely appointed bedrooms as well. The second floor Mini-suite features an upscale richly designed queen log bed with matching furniture. It has a large dresser with many drawers and a closet to hang your clothes. It has a roomy full private bath, also with heated tile flooring. With a tub and shower combo. The third bedroom is located next to the front entry on the main level. It’s a cozy private room, with a comfortable Queen sized bed with rich colored lodge theme. It has its own closet for hanging clothes and setting your suit case on a rack. A great feature is the roomy third bathroom that is next to this bedroom again with the comfort of heated tile floor and a shower.

Alas---walk down the hall to a grand view out the large, floor to ceiling windows showcasing the Lake Superior back drop to the open design of the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. The furnishings are beautiful Old Hickory and the tasteful artwork and decor pulls you into the theme of the woods and lake shore. The relaxing living room furniture surrounds a stone studded gas fireplace to sit in comfort and talk about your wonderful day on the shore. Or you can relax and gaze out at the lake as the sun or moon rises.

The kitchen features granite counters with handsome Hickory cabinets. While preparing food at the counter facing the lake, you have access to the sink (with disposal), and the bar height counter to visit with your family and friends seated on the other side. The kitchen is complete with a dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, full size stove/oven, and microwave. It is well appointed with the pots and pans and utensils you need to make your meals. We also provide basic spices to aide in cooking your delicious meals. To help with food storage we provide tin foil and plastic wrap. We also provide paper towels and dish/hand/dishwasher soaps. The cupboards are filled with attractive stoneware and glassware that sets a lovely up-north table. You can enjoy your meal at the dining room table or out on the deck to revel in the panoramic view and entrancing sounds of Lake Superior!

After many years of vacationing on the North Shore, we purchased this town home in December 2014. We know what we appreciated and looked for in the properties we have stayed at. Our home is a compilation of all the things we loved from those wonderful times. You will find this is a vacation home that is well cared for and we plan to maintain the comfort level and continue to improve it as time goes on.

We pay well for a good cleaning person and also most of our cleaning products are all natural eco and human friendly. We manage our property ourselves and contract for other help as the need arises. Call anytime for help!

We use a time sensitive key code for easy entry to the home for every new guest stay.

We decided to share our vacation home with others to offset the expenses of our vacation home. We are looking for GUESTS WHO WILL PARTNER WITH US IN USING OUR HOME WITH CARE. It is our hope your experience with us will keep you coming back for many years!

We are part of a quiet community of 26 privately owned residential town homes that are not owned or operated by any resort, hotel or lodge. This is a vacation by owner rental that allows travelers to experience a vacation out of the congested resort or hotel settings. You become part of our friendly community of owners and guests. We have a shared use building with a pool and sauna. Pool (open Memorial day to New Years) AND Sauna open Year round.

Our vacation home is centrally located just off Minnesota scenic North Shore drive Highway 61 and surrounded by some of the premier vacation state park destinations in Minnesota. The closest park being Split Rock Lighthouse which is one of the most visited and photographed lighthouses in the nation! It is hard to beat our location for travelers who want to be centrally located and capture “all” the shore has to offer.

We think you will agree, due to the nature of the shores length, if you are too far northeast or southwest you get trapped into only seeing part of the shore when you visit, but our location meets the needs of the travelers who want to see it all. Or, remain in this beautiful section of the shore and enjoy the many premier Minnesota favorite destinations near us. To highlight a few of the locations:

About Barb Daugs

Visiting the North Shore has been a part of our lives for 33 years and we enjoy both the lake and SHT.

We have set a goal to try and hike the entire Superior Hiking Trail. We've hiked or snow-shoed over 150 miles on the trail. Much of it has been many times over on some of our favorite hikes so we still have over 200 miles to finish the entire SHT!

We hike in most weather conditions, and do both day and night hikes. We have captured incredible sunsets on the trail by doing this. We have also seen some awesome northern lights. Star gazing from one of the summits on our hikes is a site you just have to see to believe. The stars are so brilliant!

Our other much loved part on the shore is just gazing at or walking along the shore of Lake Superior. The beauty of the sunrises, sunsets, as well as moon rises on the lake combined with the sound of the waves splashing onto the rocky shoreline are magical. The waves make for some incredible photo shots on the shore especially during the sunrise or sunset! We also enjoy star gazing at the water’s edge in lawn chairs. We also have had many a night campfires by the lake.

We finally decided we love it up on the North Shore so much, why not look for a place of our own? We wanted our place to be centrally located because we hike all areas of the Superior Hiking Trail. Also, we get up early to photograph the sunrise at various places on the shore, so we did not want to be limited to just one end of the shore. We thought being right between Duluth and Grand Marais was a perfect position. We also wanted to be close enough that we can get here from the cities in 3 hours. We were pretty excited to find this quiet, upscale community of cottages that perfectly fit our needs!

We plan to bring improvements as money allows. We aim to provide a clean, comfortable, well maintained place for our family and guests to relish all the North Shore has to offer, and provide a restful experience of hospitality at its best!

We stayed 3 days - my husband and myself and another couple- what a wonderful vacation rental!

The condominium is exceptional and so clean and the decorating is very tasteful. And the view of Lake Superior is just beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice you have to be there to really appreciate it. It is one of the best VRBO'S we have used. It is incredible what is provided for you. Barb has gone all out.

The sunrises and the moonrises were so wonderful to watch. We have used VRBO numerous times and Barb was so accommodating, she even texted us on our day of arrival and told us we could have an early check-in, which was great since we arrived in Beaver Bay early - so considerate! She really cares about you.

Her guide book for hiking trails and restaurants was the best. You cannot go wrong by staying at their condo. We spent part of an afternoon on the deck enjoying the view with our friends, hors d'oeuvres, and cocktails - how wonderful....we cannot wait to stay here again. Thank you Barb!

Clean, organized and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed two days here. From the moment we walked in, we could see this was a gem. Barb's home is very clean and organized and comfortable. The view from the back deck is incredible and the grill is super nice. We really enjoyed the informative books they have made. Anything you want to know- it's in there. We took one of their suggested hikes (section 13 cliffs ). It was just right for our family . It was awesome! (And thanks Barb, for straightening us out when we took a wrong turn.) They have thought of everything. There are even makeup wipes and darker towels for makeup removal! Beds are comfy, showers are great. We also used their on hand spices for our steaks (we forgot ours) and they were super. This place is also very conveniently located! We reallyenjoyed it!

Owner's Response: Thank you Dawn! What a wonderful review and detailed. That so helps others know what our guests think. Glad you did the hike - a favorite of ours! Good family picture spot. We sure tried to think of what helps guests and us just be able to come up and be comfortable for a vacation. Also making the Insider Travel guide has been fun. I am glad guests enjoy it. The Penzy spices sure have been a hit with guests. I love their spices. I am so glad you thought our place was a gem. It tickles us to see the reviews coming in. We worked hard to build a vacation home retreat that we all can enjoy. Thank you for your business it helps defray the costs of keeping this a nice "unique" retreat! Thank you too for taking great care of our place. Blessings, Barb and Bob

This is a wonderful vacation rental. The townhome is beautiful and clean. The interior decorating is right out of a magazine. It has everything you need for your stay. The view off the deck is amazing. Our daughter loved the pool. We will definitely go back in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you Kara. We are so happy you like what we have done with our vacation home. It's been fun letting others enjoy a vacation home instead of a rental for their north shore vacation. The pool is nice for the kids. Our grandkids enjoy it too. It is open to use from Memorial Day to New Years. The sauna is open year round and that is great for aches after hiking or skiing! Thank you for taking care of our place and for your business. Blessings, Barb and Bob

For the past 30 years, we and two other couples have traveled the Midwest biking the beautiful trails in the area, as well as golfing, shopping and eating at local restaurants. Your VRBO is one of the nicest ones we have stayed at! It is beautifully decorated, exceptionally maintained and in a great location right on Lake Superior. The three lovely bedrooms and baths were perfect for our group. We would rent it again in a heartbeat!!!

Owner's Response: How wonderful to hear that! Thank you for letting us know, and other prospective guests know. VRBO tells us to expound on these reviews we get. We bought our vacation home on the North Shore and found it so expensive to be on the lake. We decided to go ahead and buy on the shore and rent it out to others to help defray the costs. It has worked out wonderfully as we rent it out to guests who will take care of it. It has been a win win for us and guests to enjoy a unique retreat that is beyond just renting a vacation rental. Thank you for taking care of our place and your business. We hope to host you all again. Blessings, Barb and Bob Sorry for the delay in our response we had a family emergency come up.

North Shore Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This rental was a wonderful home for us three couples that have traveled somewhere together for well over thirty years. It was one of the best accommodations we have ever had on our trips. Everything was very clean, the furniture was "up North" homey, all kitchen supplies were available for us to cook our meals, and the scenery on the deck was fantastic. The home is right on Lake Superior, and we really enjoyed the sun coming up over the water. We even saw the northern lights one evening. We would encourage people to rent this home for a great vacation!

Owner's Response: How exciting to hear this compliment on our place! I think the difference you experienced was renting an actual vacation home. We didn't set it up as a rental, but a home. We were able to create a unique retreat with renting it out when we are not using it. It also helps pay the bills and we so appreciate all the wonderful guests who have taken such great care of our place. It's allowed to create a place that we all can feel at home. Glad to here you got to see the northern lights off the deck or from the master suite. The sunrise too! I think that is our favorite things to see and all from being on the waters edge. I also love the months when the waves rage. I feel like I am on the oceans edge! Lake Superior is an inland sea! Thank you again for sharing with others about who we are and for your business. Blessings, Barb and Bob

We highly recommend this property. Owners were wondeful, location great--near great restaurants, Split Rock Lighthouse, Goosebery Falls hiking and a short distance to Duluth. We could not have asked for a better vacation.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We appreciate your time in giving us your opinion of our vacation home. It helps others to see who we are. You mention our location and that was important for us when we bought this place. If those looking at our site would like to know how far we are from things ---- just click on the OVERVIEW button on our listing and you will see what all we have, but also I wrote out times to popular spots on the shore. You will notice we are located in the heart of the North Shore. We are 6 minutes from Split Rock Lighthouse and 7 minutes from Tettegouche State Park. Thank you for your business and taking great care of our place. Blessings, Barb and Bob
