Lovely studio but clarity needed about the view from the terrace.
We found the studio tasteful and the open kitchen area and its terrace charming. Valeria's son who greeted us and showed us round speaks very good English and is friendly and helpful. The location couldn't be better with a manageable walk down to the port and the beach for swimming and an easy walk up to the charming town square of Malfa . Access to the excellent bus service is easy from the studio. Salina is beautiful and Malfa is very charming. We had a very relaxing holiday.
So why deduct a star? This is because the description on the website states that from the studio's kitchen terrace you get the view out to Stromboli on your right and Malfa church on the left. This view is not from the kitchen terrace which has a more limited view, it is from the front terrace which is shared with the owners' house. Doors from the studio bedroom open onto the front terrace but it should be mentioned in the description on the website that the front terrace is shared with the owner's house.
For our week Valeria's son Giovanni had family staying with him. The doors from our bedroom to the front terrace were firmly locked and we were not invited to use the front terrace. Perhaps we should have asserted ourselves, mentioned the website description and used it. But we felt uncomfortable about it and so refrained. As the amazing view was the deciding factor in our booking the studio this was disappointing.
We respectfully suggest that clarity is needed on the website description. And who ever welcomes guests should show them how to open the double doors from the bedroom and make it clear that they are welcome to use the front terrace.
The property in Malfa is in a stunning location with breathtaking sea views.
The property is in an amazing location...a 5 to 10 minute walk to the harbour, the beach and the town. There is an efficient bus service from the town to the port and other villages on the island. There is a beautiful garden at the back of the property - which we were lucky to have all to ourselves, as nobody else was staying in the other parts of the building. The property is small but adequate for 2 people. However the housekeeper - our main contact did not speak English and as we do not speak Italian it was extremely difficult to communicate. The property does not provide an information pack - which we have always had in the past when renting other villas through your website. The property is advertised as having Wi-Fi, internet access and a washing machine and it had none of these facilities - if we had known that these things were not provided we probably would not have chosen this accommodation. The kitchen is quite poorly equipped, the fridge doesn't have a freezer section or even an ice box which I would have expected. The linen provided for our 12 night stay was 1 set of bed linen and 1 bath towel each, 1 hand towel and 1 teatowel. We did ask the housekeeper for some extra towels and an iron and she provided these.
Overall this is an amazing location to stay in and with a few small improvements, I would highly recommend it.
Our staying in Salina was...
Our staying in Salina was made special also by Valeria's studio.
The island itself it's a real paradise, and our little home was like a dream: super clean with fresh and odorous sheets and towels, furnished with a special end elegant taste, comfortable ti live and discrete. The sight on Stromboli is amazing, and the atmosphere is full of strong flower and sea scents. The place drowned all the stress of the city life.
Price was also very convenient so that in the end I would suggest this place to everybody who wants to live a magical experience in a suggestive apart world.
You can reach Salina from Catania or Palermo airport. Then a connection by bus or even by private carservice with the harbours of Milazzo (coming from Catania) or Palermo. Hydrofoils depart up to three times a day in the higer season towars the two harbours of Salina: Santa Marina Salina and Rinella.
From there a regular couch service will take you to Malfa.
There’s also a alternative chance from Napoli with Siremar ship company (car possibility) which leaves twice a week from the main harbour. (www.siremar.it – www.usticalines.it)
Salina is named the green island for its abundant vegetation, it’s rich in history and culture. It’s possible to visit museums and archeological sites. Summer season is full of different cultural events like music festival, film kermesse, village sagras and Saint fireworks. Aeolian kitchen is variously rich and full of strong tastes, next to the pied-a-terre you can find cosy retaurants, little food shop, boutiques and als a small supermarket. It’s also possible to rent cars, scooters and boats from local provider in the nearby. In Malfa there i salso a diving center and a classy S.P.A.
