Large and airy house, big sunny pool, 12-14 people
average rating of 4.75 based on 4 reviews

Beautiful home; outstanding location!

  • 5 of 5

We felt so fortunate to stay at the Old White Lion for two weeks this spring for a family reunion (6 adults, 7 children). With so few reviews at the time of our reservation, we weren’t sure exactly what to expect, but our experience couldn’t have been better. Jean-Richard was responsive, kind and professional, and made the entire rental experience a pleasure from start to finish. The house itself is large, well-maintained and very comfortable, with ample indoor and outdoor common areas to facilitate gatherings in any weather. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, and the covered poolside grill and table provide the perfect setting for outdoor dining. The pool is beautiful and roomy enough to accommodate several swimmers at once.

Although you may feel tempted not to leave home, the house is perfectly situated in the middle of so much beauty and history that it would be a shame not to venture out. Just down the driveway is the border of Saint Jeannet and the spectacular Baou de Saint Jeannet (which I highly recommend climbing; the view from the top is breathtaking!). There is a bakery (friendly!), grocery store, etc. just minutes from the house at the base of the Baou (easily walkable if you don’t mind narrow, curvy roads with traffic; we chose to drive), and the little village of Saint Jeannet up the Baou is charming and well worth a visit. We also spent varying amounts of time in Nice, Saint Paul de Vence, Vence, Antibes, Tourrettes sur Loup, Villefranche sur Mer and Eze.

For museum lovers, the Fondation Maeght is not to be missed. The nearby Renoir home and museum, though small, was beautiful; it was worth the short drive if only to take in the view and sit among the incredible old olive and citrus trees on the estate (though the home was wonderful as well). The Matisse and Picasso museums in Nice and Antibes, respectively, were nice stops, though like many similar museums, they do not include major works (which are generally housed in larger museums). Finally, oenophiles should take time to visit the nearby Vignoble Rasse winery—outstanding!

With all of that said, however, I have to point out that the best part of the Old White Lion is without a doubt the kindness of its immediate neighbors, Guy and Jocelyne, who help Jean-Richard with property management. They were warm, gracious and extremely helpful, making us feel like old friends from the moment we met. We eagerly anticipate a return visit and look forward to seeing them again!

Une sorte de "Nec plus Ultra" ...

  • 5 of 5

  • 4 of 5
