The cottage is super cute. We were 5 (4 adults and a 7 year old) and did use the sleeper sofa in the living room. We were welcomed by our host with a fresh apple pie and she is very helpful. Even got me to practice my rusty french... A couple of notes, the upstairs is not open, so all rooms are downstairs. The outside sitting area is lovely and you get to enjoy the cows coming into the pasture. So cool. As you are in the country, in a cottage of a few hundred years old, you will get stone floors, creaky windows but it was nice and clean. The kitchen is small, but has all you need. Note that the nearest bakery and butcher are 5 km or so away. The little town closest has no stores. We'd definitely recommend the Old Press!
Anne- Sophie made us feel very welcome at Le Pressoir with a delicious tarte aux pommes, home made cider and fresh flowers. Le Pressoir is a charming and authentic old cider press in the pretty half-timbered style of the region, le Pays D'Auge. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay here. You don't need to do much if you don't want - for us just shopping in the pretty village of St Julien le Faucon, lighting a fire in the magnificent fireplace (logs provided) and relaxing to our own tune after staying in b&bs was pleasurable in itself. The weather was unusually warm (hot even) for late September so we ate breakfast in the garden which was really lovely - well-kept and very large. We poodled around locally, car roof down, enjoying the countryside and following the Calvados and cider route. We did some sightseeing, visiting a local chateau at Crevecour and also drove to see the famous Pegasus Bridge, just north of Caen, which is really worth a visit. Autumn, when all the apples are out in the orchards was a great time to stay and Spring when the apple blossom is out would also be stunning. I would recommend this lovely, authentic old Pressoir - if you want power showers and wall to wall fitted carpets look elsewhere - but if you would enjoy a stay in an old unspoilt house in rural Normandy this is the real deal.
Ann-Sophie is lovely and welcomed us to her pretty old colombage deep in the Norman countryside with a home made tarte aux pommes, cider and fresh flowers. We found it so relaxing staying there, shopping in the unspoilt local villages, lighting a fire in the magnificent fireplace and just relaxing to our own tune after staying in a b&b. The weather was so warm (hot even) in late September that we ate breakfast and relaxed in the fabulous garden - it is really large, with a lovely outlook and great sunsets. Just writing this makes me want to go back..... We were only there a few days at the end of a European tour so we poodled around locally, following the Calvados and cider route which takes you to nice villages, picturesque farms and you get to try the local brew - French cider is so delicious! We also visited a local chateau at Crevecour which was fascinating on half timbered houses with cob walls - learnt all about them! We also went to Pegasus Bridge which was really worth a visit. Autumn, when all the apples were out in the orchard turned out to be a great time to go, I would imagine Spring with the blossom would also be stunning. I would recommend this lovely, authentic old house which is very simply furnished unless you want power showers and fitted carpets, in which case look elsewhere, this is the real deal.
Anne-Sophie was the perfect hostess! We arrived at the cottage and opened the door to the most perfect setting. An inviting fire in the fireplace, beautiful white and red roses in a vase on the table and a homemade apple tart with cider on the dining table. At first we thought we were far removed from things but soon found out that this was the best part of our trip. It was the best sleep that we had in France and we wished that we could have stayed longer. I almost felt like I was living back in time and never wanted to leave.
