Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Moon Ridge - Hazelwood House

3 bedroom, 2 bath. Beautiful desert landscaping, private patios and pergola.

This very cute 50s home has recently been totally redone with Mexican tile floors, a new kitchen, and new furniture and furnishings. The home is set in an awesome landscaped yard with lots of outdoor seating and even a children's play house. It is situated a half a block off main street, a convenient stroll to shopping and restaurants. Within 4 miles are millions of acres of public lands with loads of hiking and mountain bike trails. Also it is within 3 miles from Carefree with numerous golf courses.

We provide wi-fi, DirectTV, a well-appointed kitchen, high-quality linens, and a very comfortable atmosphere, inside and out. We have a variety of birds visiting our property and the bird watching is top-notch. The property is fully fenced, including secure parking for two+ vehicles.

The powerful a/c and central heat insure that a comfort level for even the most sensitive can be achieved. We provide necessities such as shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers, make-up mirror, lotion, and first morning's coffee and filters.

Please note that since we enjoy using our home often in between guest visits, we are not able to offer discounts for extended stays during the high-season months (September 1-May 30).

For the comfort of all our guests, this is a non-smoking residence.

About Jean Ann Mercer

Jerry and I live in beautiful Southern Colorado, surrounded by Canyon of the Ancients National Monument, and near Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley, and the remote canyons of Southern Utah. I am retired from work in the cultural resource management field, and Jerry has an archaeological consulting company based in Cortez, Colorado. We love the wide-open spaces, canyons, oceans, forests. Wherever we travel in this wide world, we have stayed in homes, condos, beach huts, loft apartments.... all through VRBO. We have rental property in Colorado and New Mexico, and this Cave Creek home is our first home listed on VRBO. We have found that staying in vacation rentals to be the most rewarding way to get a good feel for the area.

Thank you for visiting our site on VRBO!

Why Jean Ann Mercer chose Cave Creek

When our friend told us this property was for sale, we came from Colorado expecting to find a small house on a piece of land next to Cave Creek (the creek, not the town). However, the minute we turned the corner and saw the beautifully landscaped lot, the charming patios and walls, the hand-laid stone and brick work, we fell in love with it immediately. We never intended to have a house 'in town', but we absolutely love its location because we can walk anywhere in Cave Creek, the property is private due to the mature vegetation, and the neighborhood is one of the oldest in Cave Creek. Because of the topography, we do not hear the traffic of Main Street, although we are only 1/2 block from it. It is 20 minutes from Scottsdale and Phoenix, yet it feels like it is in its own little world behind the protection of Black Mountain.

What makes this house unique

We have stayed in many vacation rentals. There are many things we really appreciated during our stays, and some things we felt were missing. We kept this in mind during the past two years as we worked with contractors and as we furnished the home. Not too fussy, plenty of room for our traveling stuff, not too many 'knickknacks'. Details tend to be important, like making sure we have a few kitchen basics- at least spices, cooking oil, paper towels, good utensils that match. Like- kleenex, hair dryers, make-up mirror. Like- plenty of seating inside and out. Comfortable seating. We went for the good-quality, user-friendly appliances, thermostat, wifi, tv/dvd, entry, as we have stayed in places where we couldn't figure out the coffee pot, or how to get in the front door. We are doing our best to spare our guests such frustrations. I am a very picky sleeper, so I have have furnished the bedrooms with quality mattresses, linens, blankets, pillows. I spend much time in the kitchen, and appreciate good pans, bowls, utensils, small appliances. When we get time to spend at our Cave Creek home, we like to feel pampered, and hope that our guests will, as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

On way to see relatives in California, stopped to enjoy this area. Drove and walked around. Found gifts at the craft fair. Had our dog bathed at the Doggie Spa behind DQ. At El Encanto- my first try of Fundido Sauce- very good! The Oaks Diner for a hearty breakfast and Bryans BBQ for lunch. The Rare Earth Gallery was a feast for the eyes. Very relaxing in this lovely home and Western town. Thank you!

A cozy little cabin-like home in Cave Creek, Arizona

  • 5 of 5

This cabin/home near Black Mountain in Cave Creek, Arizona was most comfortable for our three-week stay in February/March 2016. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped, clean, and well organized. Several choices for fry pans, sauce pans, serving dishes, kitchen tools, etc. were available. Other home necessities like towels, cloths, plastic goods, paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper) were supplied. The kitchen was so well equipped--even down to the toothpicks! All appliances were of excellent quality. I especially enjoyed using the gas stove as I've only had electric stoves in my past. The dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer were in excellent shape and easy to use. There was a beautiful, large gas grill in the backyard; however, we did not use it. Several tools for the grill were stored in a separate drawer in the kitchen.

If there is one thing we missed, it was exhaust fans in the two bathrooms. The master bath has a window that was able to be opened, which we did when showering. The home seemed to be (it felt like it) equipped with a humidifier. My husband would have appreciated a second TV in one of the bedrooms, but the selection of channels on the one in the living room was very good (DirecTV). WiFi was excellent for our computers and cell phones. We appreciated the cement floored, covered car port and porch off the kitchen.

The yard was very large and nicely landscaped with interesting stone/rock walkways. There is a pergola in the yard which was inviting to sit and read and to watch the wildlife that came into the yard to eat at the seed blocks that were provided for the birds (desert quail, especially) and rabbits. I spent much time watching the activity around those blocks--either from the pergola or from the kitchen window above the sink. There was always activity in the yard. We kept the driveway gates closed whenever we were home and when we left the property to keep the javelina from entering the yard. (However, during our three-week stay, we did not see any javelina.)

This was an especially nice place for our visit. The house is located just one block from the center of Cave Creek and within easy walking distance to almost all restaurants and shops. Although we did not do any hiking on the several walking and bike trails around the area, there was plenty of nice places to walk around the neighborhood. We took advantage of this several times. Our stay was most enjoyable. Home in excellent shape!

Comfortable and Cozy Home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in Jean Ann and Jerry's adorable little cottage from January 20-February 3, 2016. It turned out to be the perfect winter getaway from our Wisconsin winter! The house was clean and charming and we felt at home the minute we walked through the front door! The furniture in the house is very comfortable and cozy, the beds especially. We indulged ourselves and each had our own bathroom. Jean Ann and Jerry have the kitchen stocked with every utensil you might need to cook at home-which we did several times over our two week stay, using the outside bar-b-que grill-as well as coffee, spices, etc. They also have a closet with miscellaneous items (like tape, sissors, batteries, soap) for every little need. So thoughtful!

The outside area might have been our favorite part of the home. We sat outside with our morning coffee and watched the wild life. We sat outside at dusk with a glass of wine and watched the sunset. The setting is so peaceful. We did a bit of touring around central/southern Arizona- taking day trips to Sedona, Jerome, Lake Pleasant, Phoenix, Tucson, Tubac.....during our stay and the location of the cottage turned out to be a nice home base for that. But, we also loved the Cave Creek area and town and spent as much time there eating (our favorites: Local Johnnys, Tonto's Bar and Grill, Bryans Bar-B-Que, El Encanto) and shopping! The location of the cottage is perfect for walking into town, yet it is very quiet sitting outside in your own little paradise.

Thank you Jean Ann and Jerry for sharing your home. We loved our stay and can't wait to come visit again!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we set foot in the door, we felt comfortable and at home. The owners have thought of everything, including a grill, washer and dryer, DirecTV, a book with local information, and every kitchen amenity you could hope for. It is right off of the main street through town, so everything is walking distance, yet it is SO quiet! We really enjoyed our time in the peaceful yard watching the wildlife and having outdoor BBQ's in the perfect April weather. It's always a bit cooler here than Phoenix, and such a short drive. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Wonderful Cave Creek home

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this clean, comfortable lovely home. There were four of us there and it worked great with having the 2 bathrooms. The only thing it did not have was an outdoor grill and when I asked Jean Ann about it she texted me within 15minutes saying one had been ordered and would be delivered within a day and it was. We cooked on it every night after too! The yard is beautiful and sure enjoyed sitting outside watching the birds and the bunnies! every night we would see a coyote stroll by down the street. The location is great for walking in to Cave Creek and the week we were there the town was hoppin! It was the start of Bike week and Fiesta days! If you are here during that time a must see is the Muttin Bustin at the Buffalo Chip! We went to two Milwaukee Brewers games and they were easy to get to. Wonderful hiking at Spur Cross. You will not be disappointed by this house and the location! We will stay here again next time we come this way! Jill

Cute Cave Creek Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice, clean 3 bedroom 2 bath home, it had everything we needed for our stay. The yard was quiet and tranquil with trees, birds, rabbits and wildlife. The home has been nicely updated and wonderfully decorated. It's very close to stores and restaurants. We can't wait to come back to this comfortable home.

Beautiful desert hills 3 bedroom home in Cave Creek

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a restful getaway close to the desert hills, this is your vacation rental! From the spacious open kitchen/dining and living room area, to the lovely yard with native cactus and trees, this is a home to enjoy. There's even a vine-covered ramada for dining and/or sitting and reading! We were excited to see a roadrunner on the property too! If you're into shopping, this property is just a block off main street with its curio and specialty shops. But besides all this, we fell in love with the nearby Spur Cross hiking trails...the loveliest hikes we found in the Phoenix area. We felt like this was "home" after a month there. In fact, we've already booked this property for next year!
