Why Pia Calo chose Province of La Spezia
This wonderful house is a family house from about 25 years as we bought it as our holidays retreat. As a matter of fact is such a magic place that nobody can leave without regrets and the promise to be back soon. Just beside the villa, is an antique pathway ,through the wood, that leads upto the charming village of Castelnuovo. Magra. For the more adventurous, the pathway leads to other panoramic pathways.

Pia and Franco
We traveled with 3 families. The villa was perfect for our size group. We had 13 people. The villa was extremely clean, and modern with rustic charm. The kitchen was perfectly equipped and the view was amazing. We were there in early April when it was quite cold, but the large veranda would be amazing for summer evenings, and the pool would be amazing as well!! The wi-fi isn't great, but that was our only complaint. The driveway is extremely steep and windy, but it wasn't a problem...that's what you get when you rent a house with a spectacular view. Pia and Franco were wonderful as well. They even arranged a chef to come in and cook us a typical Italian meal. Would definitely rent again.
I and Franco are really happy that our guests had a very good time in their vacation in our Villa. As they said the wifi was we had at the beginning of the season was not great and as matter of fact we changed immediately so that now is perfectly working even for 13 people with 13 devices!! I and Franco work continuously to improve over and over the confort and the hospitality of our Villa as we like very much it.
We really hope that Samantha and her family and friends will come again to our house and we wish them a very nice summer!!
We are lucky to have stayed at many Italian Villas and this is the first one we regret renting.
Don't want to be petty and negative however we paid a high summer price for this Villa and need to warn others of its shortcomings.
* very steep road and driveway access
* the advertised views from every room not true.
The main bedroom has a great view and bathroom, the others all have ensuites but do not have a view.
* The house has no coolng and it was very hot. The owners explained it away by saying that week in July was the hottest of the season (really? August not hotter??)
* we requested fans, 3 were delivered next day in the boxes for us to assemble. Without them the bedrooms would not have been bareable. 2 bedrooms are upstairs under the roof line so were very hot, ours had no cross ventilation so fan was the only solution-
* when we arrived we complained of a sewer smell and showers which didn't drain properly , a plumber was dispatched (with no tools) and said it was a septic sewer problem.
* by the Wednesday there was bubbling brown water coming from our shower drain and the smell was so bad it drove us out of our bedroom and we slept on the lounge.
* The septic pump-out men were dispatched on the Thursday. We had to let them in (cutting our daytrip short) help them locate the septic tanks and assist them in the pump out. The smell was disgusting and lingered for about an hour. I do not think your paying guests should be asked to do this sort of task. Apologies and particularly excuses were plentiful from the owners however the fact remains that the septic tanks should have been emptied before we arrived, not during our stay.
* The pool is adequate for a 10 person property but the water level was too low so it didn't filter properly so we were swimming amongst bugs and floating leaves.
* Crockery was mismatched and there were not enough matching glassware for 10 people * Internet access poor
* to top it all off we were initially overcharged for cleaning fee. On the positive side the terrace at the front provided a great view of the valley and the lights at night were beautiful. the proximity to Sarzana railway station makes it convenient to get to Cinque Terre.
We never had complains about our Villa, We really make a lot of efforts as the vacation of our guests could be great and unforgettable and this happens all the time.
Our guests leave us beautiful reviews and promise to come again.
We are really happy to see the satisfaction of out guests and this is what we really like.
This villa is a truly wonderful surprised discovery. Beautifully decorated, it is located on the hillside, secluded, but at the same time its vast terrace offers a breathtaking view of the sea, countryside, Sarzana and beyond. Olive trees surround this villa. Generous space, both within the house and the garden, provides areas for solitude (if individual is seeking that) or gathering in groups. Pia and Franco are great hosts and are always available, if help is required. They made arrangements with a chef to cook for us on two evenings. Chef Antonella presented her delicious Italian cuisine cooked with fresh local produce. Both Pia and Franco were in attendance, translating and explaining the dishes. All these bring together a memorable, relaxing holiday in Cinque Terre. We look forward to come back.
I am slow to send reviews, but on this occasion I need to express how wonderful our holiday was, due to the amazing accommodation and the beautiful hospitality of Pia and Franco. We booked this holiday for our mum's 60th birthday in March/April and from the moment we contacted Pia and Franco we knew they were special people.
They were so accommodating and willing to help make our holiday special. We were the first guests to stay at the villa without a car; Pia and Franco arranged our transfer from Sarzana station to the villa, our trip to Florence and had helpful tips to visit elsewhere.
When we first arrived at the villa we were blown away by it. It is a beautiful place. The pictures, whilst closely accurate, cannot do it justice. The property is large, but more than big enough to accommodate the 8 of us (6 adults, 2 children), 4 bedrooms on two floors each of which have bathrooms, a large kitchen and a huge lounge dining room with ceiling to floor glass sliding doors leading to the wrap around terrace, with another dining table and the amazing views over Sarzana. There is a pool and more than enough lounge chairs to accommodate. This is a home away from home. Not like a bland rental accommodation at all, but with art and pieces which would fit perfectly well in any tastefully decorated home. And can we mention the views - absolutely breathtaking! A little walk up the hill from the villa is the town of Castlenova Magra, which has a real castle which you can see from most points in Sarzana, well worth a trip.
We confess that we fell in love with Pia and Franco a little bit - they are truly amazing people. They helped to organise flowers for my mum and sister's birthday (both in the same week), the wine tasting at Lunae vineyard for mum's birthday, a cooking class for my siter's birthday with the unbelievably talented professional chef Antonella, who was so bubbly and Italian she made the class so enjoyable. And Pia stayed to translate which was also amazing! A trip to Florence and enquiries on how to get to the beach. All of this done with smiles on their faces, nothing was too much to ask, but we were weary not to take (too much) advantage of their generosity!
Honestly, if you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday in wonderfully beautiful surroundings in Sarzana look no further - this is it.
Thank you Pia and Franco!!!

The villa did what is sai...
The villa did what is said on the tin (an English term sorry)e.g. it was as advertised and the whole family loved staying there, so much so nobody wanted to leave. A car is a must for this villa though as it is secluded and up a steep hill with two sharp bends, but that suited us fine as we had driven from England so could easily get up and down when we needed shopping or the rare trip out. In fact, we hardly went out other than to shop in the whole two weeks as the villa and grounds are just so relaxing and inviting + the pool area away from the house is nice too as you have plenty of space to split into groups or an area for even more seclusion if you want it. Cot and high chair were provided for us and we brought our own long Mothercare gates to make sure Isabelle (23 months) couldn't escape the veranda area which is idyllic by the way. The owners speaking English also helped us no end as we spoke no Italian at all. They are very helpful and always willing to answer questions or give advice on things to do and where to go if you want it. I would be very surprised if anybody comes away from staying here disappointed. We will book again.
