We stayed here for 4 weeks and were disappointed with a number of things. Let me say from the outset though, that the cottage is in a great location. It's quiet, and very close to Villandry. We love walking and there were plenty of places to do this. Be aware that the cottage is on the river side of the levee, which offers great views, but you run the risk of being forced to evacuate if the river rises as it did when we were there. Luckily, we were leaving on the day we were told we had to evacuate. We found the interior of the main part of the house smelt very badly of chimney smoke. So much so that any clothes left in those rooms took on the smoke smell. We found the house not very clean. I spent a day cleaning when I arrived, especially the bathrooms. The linen supplied was threadbare, mismatching and very old. We had difficulty getting linen for our bed delivered. It was 5 days before we had a bottom sheet that fitted the bed. What we were originally give was more like a mattress protector material. Very rough! The tea towels in the kitchen were dirty and had insects squashed on them. I bought my own. I had to clean all the shelves in the wardrobes before we could put any clothes on them. Very disappointing!

Owner's Response: Answer to our guests : I read yesterday the good words of your wife (I suppose) on the website. She must be shamed to have been so unfair and so unfriendly. We have welcomed a lot of people, half strangers from all europe, south and north, and russians, canadians, israeliens, even very cute australians 2 years ago, but nobody tells the house was dirty. Evelyne was chocked by the the rudeness of Lorraine words. And how to be so stupid to think that forgotten dirty tea towels could be for you !!!! I kwow you have been unlucky (wifi, electricity, badest spring for 50 years...) but it was not our fault, neither the stress due to the wedding, or your ignorance of foreign languages. You have also be lucky to enjoy our new room ( sorry if it's not your taste) and to welcome 8 people and pay for 6. Nothing is perfect but we always try to do the best, even for you to resolve the wifi problem, to bring you other bedlinen to try to respond to Lorraine caprice. Perhaps there was some dust on the wardrobe because of the recent works, but if you had tell us, the problem would be resolved by ourselves. We have learn the evacuation the day you leave (on the evening the Gendarmes passed) but after explain them that our house were without danger because it's high, and along the Loire, not along the Cher who risqued to extend down the other side of the levée, we stay all the week-end. And I want to tell you that in case of evacuation, it would be a duty for us to welcome you in our "art déco" house in Tours and to prepare a good french diner for you. So the next time try to find a best home for you. And try to be more respectful.

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Old house, bright and modern interieur, brethless view to river Loire

  • 4 of 5

The location is very quiet. Although it is an old buidling the interieur is quite modern and bright. The terrace has a breath taking view to the river Loire. I would have expected a bit more comfortable seats for the terrace. Unfortunately the barbecue not usable because it was completely mankey (dirty). As a conclusion I can recommend the location as a spot to relax.

Un fleuve et ses rivages

  • 5 of 5
