This 13th century tower belonged to the very powerful Donati family. By the second half of the sixteenth century, the Donati family’s fortune had faded and the tower was incorporated into the mansion of the Albizi, a Florentine family of merchants and bankers who were long-standing rivals of the Medici. In the eighteenth century the mansion passed to the Tassinari family, and finally in 1929 to the family of the current owners.
