My wife Debby and I have been married since 1998 and have 3 daughters. I grew up in a small town in Southeast Missouri, Cape Girardeau. My wife is a Dallas native and we now live in a suburb of Dallas, Frisco, TX.
Jeff Riggins purchased this house in 2014
My wife Debby and I lived in Phoenix for 5 years and fell in love with the desert and all it's beauty. We were lucky enough to be able to purchase our dream home in December 2014 on Black Mountain. Our family frequents the valley as much as possible. Our 3 daughters love the warm dry desert air and the views from atop Black Mountain. We hope you will love them as much as we do.
This home is very custom and very unique. The home was build in 1999, but and was always cared for and kept in great shape. We did a few renovations at the end of 2014 including new paint, furnishings throughout the house along with new railings on the patio. There just aren't many homes in Phoenix that you can rent that offer the elevation and the amazing views. The sunsets views can been seen throughout most of the house and they just can't be described. In a word, the sunsets are amazing. We enjoy them often from the relaxing heated pool and spa or while enjoying a meal or glass of wine on the patio deck. The elevator is especially nice for anyone that struggles with stairs and has easy access from the garage. I like to use it when we make a run to the grocery store or to Costco and I don't have to carry anything up the stairs. Our home is a part of our family. We love spending time relaxing in the warm dry Arizona climate. Our favorite things include watching the sunsets from our pool or deck and seeing the valley illuminate at night. I hope you enjoy your stay.
This house is situated high on Black Mountain with spectacular views of valley and distant mountains. As others have mentioned, the outdoor living area is outstanding and the sunsets live up to the loft reviews others have posted. Lots of sitting options and the pool is wonderful. The house was well laid out and there was plenty of room for all 8 of us. The kitchen is well stocked and there is a very nice big screen TV off the kitchen area where we rooted on our favorite sports teams while taking in the great views of the area.
As impressed as we were with the house, we were even more impressed by the owner of the house (Jeff). He made sure everything at the house was perfect for our visit. Well done!
We rented this house for an annual girl's weekend, 7 girls in total. It was perfect for our large group. It felt very spacious, was extremely clean, and definitely the best stocked house we have ever rented (after 10 years)! The negative edge pool, spacious patios, and amazing views were definitely the highlights.
Having been to the Phoenix Area several times, I was looking for something that was a little quieter. I saw this listing in Cave Creek (never heard of it), and decided to give it a try.
There isn't anything I can say about the house that hasn't already been said. It is really a great place. Enough room for all. Yes, it really has an elevator. Before going, I was thinking... What would a two level house need an elevator for? It really came in handy to move the luggage and food to the upper level. Worth every penny! Watching the hot air balloons in the early morning hours was great.
Being from a metropolitan city, we saw wild life that we have never seen.... Eagle, quail, javelina, and I believe we even saw a family of road runners. Was hoping to see a rattlesnake, but that didn't happen. I guess we were lucky in that respect. We encountered a scorpion. It was way faster than I expected. We were told that there were bobcats on the mountain, but we never saw them.
That being said, as nice as all that was, the experience of meeting Jeff (the owner), made the trip that much more enjoyable. What a great person. He called to make sure we settled in ok. He was always available via phone, text, and email (I dont think he ever sleeps). He knew it was overly hot and asked if he could bring us water or anything else we might need. I can not say enough about him. I wish all the home owners on HomeAway would take a page out of his playbook.
Jeff... Thank you for everything. You really do have a beautiful, quiet, and relaxing place in Cave Creek, Arizona.
This review is being posted much later than our stay. My husband and I along with three other families rang in the 2016 New Year at this marvelous home. We spent 4 incredible days enjoying every aspect this home had to offer. With incredible views of the valley, we enjoyed sunrise of air balloons lift offs and panoramic sunsets that were breathtaking. With four families staying in the house were all very comfortably accommodated to include plenty of cozy sleeping space and bathroom time. When we wanted to lounge or take a break you had more choices than you could ask for. From the distinguished entry, playful and engaging exterior playground to welcoming and functional interior spaces this home had it all!! A well stocked and organized kitchen made feeding the troops easy and comfortable to include cooking s'mores on the front balcony. I even found myself on the roof in a hammock to watch as the sun rose one morning. This home has great accommodations for large groups and for any special event as it did for our New Years Eve party. You have ease of access to great eateries, a world class spa and specialty retailers to enjoy your time spent. Easy to go to and from the airport. Great hiking of the area was close by. If you are looking for a get away retreat which offers so may wonderful amenities you MUST consider this beautifully appointed home. The owners take such great care of their home to ensure you have a wonderful experience. I look forward to coming back!!!
Our 5 person group enjoyed a truly wonderful stay May 28, 2016-June 4, 2016. We spent most of our day in and around the home. Tons of nearby hiking, restaurants (my personal favorite was a breakfast at Big Earl's), and sights to see. During the 7 days we were there, we spent ample time by the pool, around the fire pit, and grilling - and also made time to see the Grand Canyon and have a quick trip to Sedona.
I can't recommend the sunset enough - it came to be a comfort every night, sitting in a raft in the infinity pool as the sun drifted down behind the mountains. Amazing.
Plus, every morning you can enjoy the back patio or watch the hot air balloons rise before the sun gets too hot.
Great trip, lovely home - would highly recommend to anyone.
What an amazing way to ring in my 50th year of life, at this beautiful, well-appointed and well-stocked home with amazing views of hot-air balloons at dawn and dusk, and seriously some of the most gorgeous sunsets I've ever seen, along with my husband and 7 of our closest friends! Also a plus was getting to meet Jeff when he stopped by just to say hi and make sure we were all doing well!
Plenty of space for all of us to be together and, when needed, have some quiet time away from the hoopla ~ so many lovely spaces to settle into for reading, quite chatting, or watching the hummingbirds off the back patio. The Keurig was a pleasant and well-used surprise, as was the margarita blender :) Beds were super comfy.
Highlights were attending a few Mariners Spring Training games, hiking Black Mountain and Tom's Thumb trails, watching a pair of red-tail hawks daily gliding in lazy circles over the house and Black Mountain behind the house, the hot-air balloon ride (Arizona Hot Air Balloons) including a champagne breakfast...and time in the hot-tub and pool - we loved the house so much, it was difficult to leave even for a short time!
One thing to note, the pool IS heated (by propane) and it takes 6-8 hours to heat up, so plan ahead for when you want to use it. Hot tub heats in about 45 min & that's mostly what we used. We turned the pool on the morning of our last day & it was comfortable for swimming by mid afternoon. Good to know if you're there in the cooler spring and want to use the pool :)
Also, check the fridge and pantry BEFORE hitting the grocery store - we added to the existing stash of condiments, coffee, tea, etc., which we'd not have done if we'd checked first. You will NOT run out of mustard. Trust me.
We had a fantastic time and are already planning to return next spring. Thank you for your generosity, Riggins Family, in sharing this remarkable home with the rest of us!!
This house is perched high on the West side of Black Mountain in Cave Creek. This house overlooks Cave Creek Road and is minutes from downtown Cave Creek, 15 minutes to Desert Ridge and approximately 35 miles to the Stadium in Glendale. The views are AMAZING!
