Beautiful Bologna - fab location and so clean
Five of us enjoyed a fantastic three night stay in November. The apartment is located on a very vibrant and fun street which is filled with places to eat, drink and savour Bologna life. Yes, it is up many flights of stairs but it is so worth it. The apartment itself is so much more beautiful than the photos. You come in the hall door and to the left is a corridor with a double bedroom, a single bedroom and a large bathroom with separate shower and a washing machine. In front of you is a corridor leading to a beautiful glass staircase in the living room which leads to the upstairs loft where you will find a large double bedroom with shower en-suite and separate sitting area. The sitting room area is very comfortable with sweeping views on to Piazza Maggiore and there is a gorgeous dining room too which easily sits 8. The kitchen is a small square size but had everything we needed for our stay including a dishwasher. The apartment is filled with beautiful art works and was stylishly decorated. Extremely clean. Plenty of toiletries and fresh towels provided. Spare blankets too if needed. Checkin and checkout were easy. We highly recommend a stay here and hope to return some day.
We had a lovely stay in Bologna in this gorgeous, well furnished and perfectly situated apartment overlooking Piazza Maggiore. BA tried to ruin our trip by cancelling our early morning flight less than 24 hours before we were due to depart, and re-booked us on an evening flight which meant we didn't arrive until after midnight - too late to get to the apartment and we had to book into a hotel. Giulia, the apartment owner, was so understanding and accommodating which was just what we needed after all the stress with the flights. The street outside the apartment had lots of little cafes and market stalls as well as the Mercato di Mezzo, a lovely food hall. People booking the apartment should be aware that there are about 100 steps to get to it - we didn't mind as we felt we needed the exercise after all the gorgeous Bologna food and wine(!) - but it might be tricky for some people. Bologna is not a huge city and is easy to explore on foot although we did wimp out(!) and took the little train up to San Luca which leaves from the Piazza - the views from San Luca are wonderful. We are so pleased we visited Bologna - interesting buildings and history (including the oldest university in Europe), lovely food, good atmosphere - just great to soak it all up!
Perfect location with limitations
First the positives. The location is unsurpassable, overlooking Piazza Maggiore, and surrounded by quality eating houses, excellent bars and superb food outlets, featuring the very best of Emilia-Romagna. The kitchen was adequate, although the utensils could be retired and replaced. The dining room was an excellent surprise.
The photos and description are an accurate appraisal of the space,
…there are 102 stairs from the street to the front door. That's an imposing request, no matter one's age particularly in a city that's best done on foot.
What's more important is this apartment is truly a winter destination. We were there in early September, when the humidity was at its highest and the temperature in its high 20s/low 30s. The portable air-conditioning units were of no use, nor the powerful fan in the living room. The heat in each room was stifling.
So, the question is: location or quiet comfort, or wait for winter?
Great location and nice apartment
Apartment is lovely, great location and hosts are really helpful.
Absolutely beautiful apartment with a perfect location
We agreed that this was one of the loveliest places we stayed in all of Italy. The apartment is gorgeous - beautifully decorated and laid out in a way that worked real well for our family. It looks out over Piazza Maggiore and is surrounded by shops and restaurants - an enviable location for anyone in Bologna. The owner was responsive and kind and worked with us when we needed a little extra time due to train issues.
The only downside for us - it was incredibly hot when we were there, and the two bedroom air conditioners were really struggling to keep temps below 80F or so. The rest of the apartment was pretty hot and cooled by one fan which we moved from room to room. Even so, we would stay there again for the beauty or the place and amazing location.
Amazing, spacious apartment, perfect for 2 couples
There were essentially 2 separate areas in this apartment making it great for 2 couples going away together. The view on to the square was fabulous, although to get the view you do have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the apartment so do take this into account! Ideally located, clean and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.
