About the property

Our cool, comfortable and very spacious (1,000 sq. ft.) one bedroom apartment with exposed brick walls, high ceilings and concrete floors has a "downtown" city feel! It sleeps two to four and is located within walking distance to many entertainment venues and restaurants in areas like the Neon District, Ghent, and Downtown Norfolk. Enjoy a gourmet kitchen, secured garage parking and complimentary bikes.

The building itself, built in 1915, was Virginia's oldest auto dealership called F.A. Roethke DeSoto. It has recently undergone an extensive historic renovation cumulating in the design of Fort Tar Lofts. The preservation of this historical structure is noted by the industrial finishes found in this studio, which include such features as original concrete flooring, exposed brick and masonry walls, 14-ft ceilings and expansive 9-foot windows that make the interior of this studio like no other in Hampton Roads, all with 1st floor on-site secured garage parking.

Our convenient location is less than a five minute walk to the Chrysler Museum, Chrysler Hall and The Harrison Opera House. Downtown Norfolk, with its many exciting restaurants, superb night life and premier shopping is located just a half mile away, as well. The Tide, Norfolk's new light rail system, which can be used to easily travel anywhere throughout downtown Norfolk and into Virginia Beach is nearby as well.

Perfect apartment for short or lon visits to Norfolk

I stayed here wil my 73yo mom while visiting family in Norfolk for a high school graduation. The place was perfect and actually bigger than expected. Four people would be extremely comfortable. It was very safe with the secure garage parking and entry. It was centrally located and had all the essentials. Good wifi, two TVs, good A/C, basic kitchen supplies, etc. Michael was incredibly responsive. I arrived hours after my mother and he walked her through everything and made sure she was all set up and comfortable. We plan to use this apartment again next time we are in town.

Beautiful, modern unit in a great central location!

I stayed in this unit from mid August through early November 2016. The unit is beautifully furnished and was very clean upon arrival. It is safely secured with gated parking on the main level and keyed access throughout the building. The rooftop patio provided great views of the downtown Norfolk area and a lovely place to grill. Kitchen was well equipped with modern appliances throughout, including the in-suite washer and dryer. Great central location with easy access to shopping, locally owned restaurants and a lovely market. The landlord was amazing and very responsive if needed. I would highly recommend this unit for both short or longer term stays.

Historic property with modern amenities

We stayed at the property when attending a family wedding in Norfolk. The modern amenities complement the historic characteristics of the property, and we had secure parking on the first floor of the building. It is within walking distance of downtown Norfolk and Ghent. The owner is very responsive and accommodating. By all means, ask him about the history of the property and how he re-purposed it.

Nice bed, good location, lovely folks

This was an easy place to stay. We enjoyed the gated garage parking and the nice security upgrades on the apartment. The bed was comfortable. The sofa bed was comfortable as well and would be a good fit for two children or one adult. The property is well maintained and well stocked. If you look on Google Earth before traveling, there have been nice upgrades to the neighborhood since those photos were taken. I would be fully comfortable staying in this location alone or just me and the kids. The owner and family live close and are very responsive and kind.

Great studio apartment!

This apartment was fantastic! My wife and I stayed for an extended period - 3 months. We over-packed so the apartment was a little short on storage space with a single closet, but we were still quite comfortable. The location is very convenient as it is walking distance to downtown and to Ghent which we found to be the best neighborhoods to spend time in. The king size bed is super comfortable, everything in the apartment including the appliances are new, and there is TV and internet service provided. The management team was very responsive and all of our requests were addressed in a timely manner. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a furnished short to medium-term housing solution.
