Fabulously equipped and the warmest welcome !
As a family we have been going to different villas across Europe and Florida for the last 7 years. I have never visited a villa that has everything that we could possibly need when we first arrive. Villa Ortensia is in a fabulous location for complete seclusion and a calming retreat. The villa is truly a beautiful home and is exactly as portrayed in the pictures. Francesca provides a warm welcome and also the wonderful balance between being there ( just down the hill) if you need her but also does not intrude. Usually at villas we have been to there is the bottle of local wine provided but Francesca's welcome goes so beyond this. We had all the components for breakfast so no going out after a long journey. I always get fustrated that I have to buy those essential items just for the two weeks, but not at Villa Ortensia. I walked into a fully stocked house, from salt and pepper, cooking oil, teabags, toiletries the list goes on. The views are stunning and there are so many locations in the extensive outside area that you can sunbathe all day or seek the shade under the outside trees. It is a wonderful retreat for family time, we were a party of 6 including two children 10 and 12. The local supermarket is one of the best in Italy that I have ever visited. A car is essential as it is winding drive up the hill but it is worth it. Despite the extensive heat every day the house was always cool and with so much space we could happily all spend time inside. Thank you so much for a fantastic week.
fantastic house in Liguria
We had a very lovely stay in this house. The house is amazing, everything was in perfect order and the decoration was beautiful with antique pieces and a great atmosphere. The outdoor area is lovely as well as the pool area. The house sits on a hilltop with amazing views and no neighbors, so really private. Too bad that the view is blocked by many trees, and this is the absolute ONLY suggestion we have for improvement: Cut the lower-hanging leaves on the olive tree and the major pine tree, so that the view towards North (?) is opened up and maybe also some of the lower parts of the trees blocking the view towards the bay. This did not affect our stay in any way, just a suggestion for making this great spot even more perfect! Thank you Francesca for being a lovely host, much appreciated. We definitely hope to be back!
Splendid house with a great garden and pool
Together with my husband, our 3,5 y.o. son and 2 friends we stayed at Villa Ortensia during the last 2 weeks of May. First, the quality of the house was beyond our expectations. Everything was very clean, organized, maintained & decorated with a good taste and love. Comfortable beds, clean towels and bed textiles. Francesca is the owner of this property and she lives 50m down the hill, she was always available whenever we needed her help. When we entered the house, the kitchen table was full of Italian delicacies, fruits and vegetables she arranged for us as a welcoming surprise. The garden is fantastic, behind the garden pine trees the forest starts. The pool was clean and big enough. You should definitely drive a car, because house is located on the top of a hill (price you pay for a splendid view). Taxi's are not driving to this point. Sarzana is a very charming city with a good infrastructure (shops, restaurants, supermarkets, culture life). From house to the downtown it took us 15-20 minutes drive. For beaches, we went to Lerici, San Terenzo and Fiascherino - app. 25-30 minutes away.

Wonderful Oasis in Italy
My husband and two adult children stayed at this beautiful villa for a week and it was wonderful. The villa is in perfect condition, beautifully decorated and every detail seen to. Francesca was the most wonderful host and great to work with. Her home is amazing. We all agreed we would never rent this villa if it was ours, but we are so glad she does. It is equipped with everything you might need. She even greeted us with typical ligurian food and a nice bottle of wine for our first night, which was great because we didn't have to out to get supplies. The house and decor is so beautiful you can't help but look around and feel like you are in a museum. The bed linens were so cozy and the towels nice and big. The views were amazing from every angle and we spent many a night enjoying wine and looking at the view. We also really enjoyed cooking and eating al fresco by candlelight and thinking how lucky we were to have found Francesca and Villa Ortensia.
Thank you, Francesca, for sharing your beautiful home with us
Luxury and romantic Villa
We stayed at the beautiful Villa Ortensia for almost 12 days. We met Francesca on the arrival. She surprised us with a bottle of wine and some lovely food. Thank you again! The villa was clean, the kitchen was very well equipped and the views from the garden are really spectacular. We loved to stay at the villa and enjoyed our selfmade diners, the Swimming pool and the views at the evening. It was like a hotel. There was shampoo, soap, body lotion, washing powder and so on. Changing bedsheets and towels was not a problem at all for Francesca. Yes it is a ride up hill to get to the villa (4 km). But we loved it and every trip it became easier. We visited Sarzana, Pisa, the beach "Marinella di Sarzana", Cinque Terre (twice). We travelled on foot, train and boat in Cinque Terre. Francesca we loved the villa and we love you. We will definitely recommended Villa Ortensia to our friends. Thank you very much Francesca for sharing Villa Ortensia with us. Greetings from Holland: Evelyne, Ad, Britt, Bas, Henk, Daniëlle and the little dog "Dushi".
The Italian hills
We had two superb weeks in the villa with high temperatures and clear blue cloudless skies.
We were met by Francesca on arrival as arranged and she left us some food and drink for our first night which was very kind.
The villa had every amenity that we required, very good sized rooms, a large kitchen and outdoor dining area as well as indoor dining areas and a large sitting room.
As the weather was so good we made great use of the pool altjough we did travel to do some sightseeing visiting Pisa and Cinque Terre both less than an hour's drive away.
We also visited the beach at Carrara.
The villa was spotlessly clean with good quality furniture and plenty of amusments with Sky tv, wi-fi etc.
The villa is reached via a winding, single track hillside road but as villa is near the top of a large hill the views are worth the drive being spectacular, with far views accross the nearby villages to the sea.
This results in wonderful sunsets and the view to the lights of the town of Sarzana below.
Families with very small children would need to be careful of the pool and take care with the furniture, especially any glass fronted units.
