Large Barolo home with pool set among the vines

Bedrooms 5
Separate WCs1
Space 4,090 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Fully-renovated 5 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom home with pool sleeping 10 to 12 people

In the heart of the Barolo zone, a lovingly-restored, large Langhe farmhouse with swimming pool, surrounded by vines.

Just minutes from Barolo, La Morra, Novello and Monforte d'Alba, Villa Ribota sleeps 10 to 12 people in 5 spacious double bedrooms.

We fully renovated the house 3 years ago. Everything is new and finished to a high standard, while the original, character features remain. There is wifi throughout the property (and around the pool, of course!).

The Villa is immersed in the peace and quiet of the countryside, with views across the vines to Novello and the Alps beyond, yet it is also just a few minutes from the wine bars, wineries and restaurants of towns like Barolo, La Morra and Monforte d'Alba. Alba (the home of the International White Truffle Festival) and Bra (the centre of Slow Food) are each just 15 minutes drive.

Walk to Novello for lunch, have a cooking class by the pool, go for a wine tasting with a small, local producer or with a world famous Barolo big hitter, hunt for white truffles, or cycle from village to village, immersing yourself in the remarkable views, or just relax by the pool and soak up the beautiful views.

The Villa sleeps 10 to 12 people in five spacious double bedrooms (there are two extra single beds that can be added to any of the rooms). There are also three cribs for small children. There are four modern bathrooms, a big, characterful living/dining area, a fully-equipped, modern kitchen and a wonderful swimming pool with views straight out across the vines.

Situated within the Barolo zone, the Villa is surrounded by Nebbiolo vines. You can walk to the nearest winery and you can follow trails through the vines which run directly from the house to local villages and restaurants.

Bedroom One is downstairs, with direct access to the garden and pool. It has an en-suite bathroom with shower and bath tub. It has a double bed (US King size) with space to add another single bed or crib. It can also be set up with two single beds (90cm wide) instead of a double.

Bedroom Two is in the former hayloft area. It is a huge room, with high ceilings and massive picture windows to make the most of the views. It has a double bed (180cm, US King size) or can be arranged with two single beds (each 90cm wide). A further single bed or cot can be added if needed.

Bedroom Three is also in the old hayloft. It has a double bed (180cm wide, US King) or can be set up with two single beds (each 90cm wide). It offers views to the east, straight out through the vines. Bedrooms Two and Three share a huge, stylish, modern bathroom with double sinks, walk-in shower and bath tub.

Bedroom Four is a very large room with access to the balcony. It has a double bed (180cm, US King) or can be set up as two singles (each 90cm wide) and a further single bed or cot can be added if needed. It has an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower.

Bedroom Five is also a decent size, with balcony access. It has a double bed (180cm wide, US King) or can be arranged with two single beds (each 90cm wide), with space to add a further single bed or cot. It has its own modern bathroom with shower (not en-suite).

Kitchen - Downstairs you will find the modern kitchen, which has everything you need to cook for up to 12 people, including a gas hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine and mocha coffee makers (these are simple espresso makers which you put on the stove. They are standard in Italian households).

Laundry - Off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine, iron, ironing board, drying rack, vacuum cleaner and other cleaning equipment. There is also a WC off the utility room, with toilet and sink.

Living/Dining - Also downstairs, this features brick vaulted ceilings, an open fireplace (wood is available) and an exposed stone wall. The dining table has plenty of space for 12 people. There is direct access from here to the outside dining area. The comfortable living area has seating for 12 and a flatscreen HD TV with UK satellite channels. There is also a DVD player, a small library and a selection of board games.

Outside - A shaded dining area seats 12 in comfort, while there is also a charcoal barbecue and a firepit.

Swimming pool - The perfect place to unwind after a tough day of tasting wine or hiking through the vineyards. It is unheated so while it is always open, it may be a little fresh in early spring and late autumn.

The garden has a large grassed area which runs straight into the vines. In summer and autumn, guests can help themselves to fruit (figs, apples, pears, peaches and sharan fruit) and hazelnuts from our trees.

At the rear of the house is a small storage area, useful for storing bikes, pool toys and golf clubs. There are electric-bike and Vespa rental companies nearby who will deliver to the house on request.

Parking - there is a private parking area to the rear of the property, large enough for three to four cars.

Cleaning - The house is cleaned before your arrival.

Linen - Bed sheets, bath and hand towels, pool towels and kitchen towels are all provided.

Internet - the house has wireless internet throughout.

Activites: cooking lessons at the villa; chef cooking for you at the villa; cycling; electric bikes; walking; mountain hikes; wine tasting; restaurants; golf; beaches just an hour away; explore the local villages; trek through the vines; Turin less than an hour away

Now the legal bit:

Since December 2017, the property is rented as a "Locazione Turistica", or private villa rental. This is regulated by Articolo 1571 e seguenti del Codice Civile, dall'articolo 4 del DL 50/2017 convertito con Legge n. 96/20, dall'art 1, comma 2 lett c0. della legge 9 dicembre 1998 n. 431 nonché dall'art 53 del Codice del Turismo, D.Lgs. 79/2011.

About Allegra

I'm Allegra. My husband and I moved to Piemonte in 2012 to follow our dream of renovating an old farmhouse. The Langhe captivated us on our first visit and we knew straight away it was the place we should be. It really is the most beautiful place in the world, in every season. Finding the right property took a while, but we got there in the end! Having completed the renovation in 2015 we decided it would be a shame not to share this wonderful place!

With our little daughter Bee, we live next door to Villa Ribota, in another part of the same cascina, though the two properties are separated by a large hedge and the Villa is completely private.

Allegra purchased this villa in 2013

Why Allegra chose Novello

Great wine, great food, fresh air, views, wine again, truffles, cycling, walking... what more do you need? The Langhe really is heaven on earth! The locals are super friendly and the weather is amazing in every season. And the house is right in the heart of it, surrounded by vines that make the best wine in the worls. We love it here and we hope you will too!

What makes this villa unique

The location of the property was what first grabbed us... nestled among the vines, with a view across the valley towards Novello and the snow-capped Alps beyond. It's in the country, surrounded by vines, yet so close to towns like Barolo, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba and Novello. We think it's the perfect mix, and we hope you will too! Don't stay near the Barolo zone, stay right in it, surrounded by the Nebbiolo vines that are used to make the wine!

Fantastic Villa Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful location, nor a more enjoyable place to spend a week with friends. Villa Ribota offers spacious rooms, new bathrooms, a refreshing pool and magnificent views. The outdoor gathering space was our favorite place to spend our time and we enjoyed having a kitchen and grill for those times we cooked for ourselves. Richard and Allegra's hospitality in setting up wine tasting, Vespas and electric bikes as well as arranging for chef services was an added bonus. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Villa Ribota and hope to return to this treasure of a spot in Italy someday soon.

Fabulous Property!

  • 5 of 5

What's not to love about a fabulous property nestled amongst the Barolo vineyards with jaw dropping views, a pool, and an impeccably decorated and immaculate home with owners who are so charming, welcoming and helpful?

We just spent an amazing week at Villa Ribota thanks to Alegra, Richard and little Bea for making it so. They were so helpful arranging wine tastings, dinner reservations and cooking classes. All of which we enjoyed immensely and certainly wouldn't have found if left to our own devices! We are all looking forward to a return trip very soon.

Pefect and peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

Had a the most wonderful weekend at Villa Ribota! Rich and Allegra had some amazing contacts so we were able to do several wine tastings and explore the region more efficiently. One of the wines was so great that we even chose to ship some home for our upcoming wedding.

The villa itself was spectacular! The trip that much easier by having a full kitchen and a grocery store just a short ride away. We shared the space with three other couples and there was more than enough privacy for everyone.

Being American and speaking a minimal amount of Italian, it was easy to work through the booking process and sleeping arrangements prior to our arrival.

Wow, what a stunning find! Villa Ribota is a beautifully restored Langhe farmhouse in the wine region of Piedmonte.

The house itself is spacious, but homely with all the mod cons and home comforts. Each room is unique and uncluttered. Bathrooms are high spec and most rooms have big French Windows which overlook the vineyards. The pool is lovely and there's a great patio for outdoor dining. The hosts Rich and Allegra are very willing to help out with anything from matters to do with the house, or advice on the area. Both speak Italian which helps enormously for booking things!

The area itself is perfect if you're adventurous or just fancy a relaxing holiday. We cycled and walked in the area and visited several very friendly vineyards. There is skiing nearby too in the winter and a golf course on the doorstep. You will need scar to get yourself about, but even then several villages are within walking/ cycling distance.

A real gem of a place to stay and highly recommended!

Fabulous, Nestled in vineyards, Beautiful rooms

  • 5 of 5

I've found myself looking at villas again as we are planning another trip to Piedmont this Autumn. My friends (8 of us in total) and I had such a wonderful time at Villa Ribota last October that I had to review it. We are foodies and winelovers. The villa was perfectly placed surrounded by vineyards and the fall colours of the vineyards were just breathtaking. It's an easy drive to Alba, I mention this in particular as the truffle festival was on. We were lucky enough to hold and smell black and white truffles that were big enough to fill our hands. I treated myself to white one that we shaved on fried eggs.

It's a family run villa, immaculate, beautifully decorated with great sized rooms. The kitchen is really well equipped and the dining table a really great size for long evening meals if you want to stay in as it's self-catering. Rich and Allegra gave us great advice on vineyards to visit, local restaurants, day trips and hikes. A car is a must to get to nearby restaurants and towns. Do ask them about speciality pizzas at the local pizzeria Gothic Pizza.

The house is in the UNESCO Barolo Zone, an area of rolling vineyards encompassing just 11 villages within which Barolo wine can be produced. We are surrounded by vines and you can walk to our nearest wine producer. We are just a few minutes' drive from beautiful villages like La Morra, Monforte d'Alba and Barolo, yet enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Wine tasting here in the Langhe is a unique experience... you sit around a table with the producer as they open bottle after bottle of their wines for you to taste and tell you all about their family, their lives and of course, their wine.
