About Madeleine Dicker
Madeleine has lived and worked in West Cornwall for 29 years. She ran a holiday business within the grounds of her smallholding. She also ran a cream tea garden alongside her successful catering business. Madeleine loves the outdoors, and has walked much of West Cornwall's many beautiful miles of coastal paths, in all weathers! With her detailed knowledge of the surrounding areas, she will be more than able to provide you with helpful hints and tips on the best places to see and visit and where to go for the nicest food! "I love to meet new people, and hospitality is a passion of mine! How nice for me to be able to host from such a fabulous place as Chestnut Lodge!"
Why Madeleine Dicker chose Perranuthnoe
The lodge is a perfect base for exploring west and south Cornwall - the Poldark country - with many secluded coves and beaches near by, including Prussia Cove (Ladies in Lavender), quirky Perranuthnoe, the family friendly surfing beach at Praa Sands and historic Porthleven. The ancient market town of Marazion is the gateway to the timeless St Michaels Mount rising from the sea. Catch a ferry to the sub-tropical Isles of Scilly from Penzance, or visit it's shops, harbour and marina.. Maybe just stroll along the promenade, and see the open air Lido. The busy fishing harbour of Newlyn, and the quaint village of Mousehole will lead onwards to adventure after adventure. Ideal for country lovers, you can walk the many footpaths or use the network of cycle paths if you are feeling energetic. - there is so much to see and do, you will need to come again to fit it all in!

Delightful holiday cottage
An enchanting holiday cottage met us after an interesting drive to the property. We were greeted by Madeleine who is lovely and the best scones and cream tea that we have ever had.
The house is well appointed and very spacious. There were five adults in our party and our two year old grandson. He loved the open plan downstairs and generally had a ball. It was lovely having so much space, plenty of bathroom/toilets etc. A very well decorated home. We had a lovely holiday.
Spacious and comfortable woodland cottage
Our family of two adults, one teenager and two children spent two weeks at Chestnut Lodge in late August, we found the size of cottage, number of bedrooms and bathrooms to make living there an easy and comfortable experience. The snug situated on the upstairs landing was a hit with our kids, greatly enjoying watching dvd's and playing with toys provided, this area also has a library of books to keep all ages entertained. All of the bedrooms are large and have ample storage, the kitchen contains all of the cooking utensils but be sure to pack your cooking condiments (oil, vinegar, ketchup etc), kitchen roll and spray to avoid an emergency trip to the supermarkets in near-by Penzance (not strictly the cottage owner's place to provide but this was the first time we've stayed in a premium cottage where such items were missing). The cottage does suffer from a low level of interior light caused by the proximity of the woodland surrounding the cottage, which required us to keep the lights on during the day, this did reduce our enjoyment of the cottage as it was gloomy and cooler indoors despite us enjoying fantastic warm sunny weather during our stay. The tall woodland trees surround the property on all sides creating a true cabin-in-woods feel, we missed having a view but understand that others will enjoy the tranquility and cosiness. The garden includes a trampoline, rope swing and treehouse for kids to play on, the treehouse is very difficult to access via the rope ladder so wasn't used, which was a shame as our kids were looking forward to playing there. Overall an excellent value, comfortable and well presented cottage in close proximity to good beaches with plenty of space for families. Our thanks go to Maddie, whom gave us a warm welcome and was happy to spend time making sure that we were settled and had everything we needed.
Dear Alex and Gemma,
Thank you for your review of Chestnut Lodge. I am really sorry that you felt disappointed with certain aspects of your stay, as my intention is to ensure that everyone who comes here lacks nothing and is able to fully enjoy their time and rest here.
Actually, we do provide the condiments and essentials that you mentioned; but due to your slightly early arrival, I hadn't fully finished my usual checks, and it is my error that these items weren't replaced after the previous guests - most unlike me! I do sincerely apologise.
Also very sad to hear that the children didn't get to enjoy the treehouse as hoped; we have a ladder available for those who need it - and If I had known there was a problem I could have helped out!
Thank you for your lovely note in our visitor's book :) I'm so glad that you were able to adventure out and enjoy the lovely beaches nearby.
Thank you for staying with us.
Our family 3 generation's had a lovely stay, plenty of room for everyone, the children enjoyed there own little lounge with tele, games & toys. Maddie is such a lovely host nothing is to much trouble for her, she makes the most wonderful cream tea which we had on our arrival. Highly recommended.

Ideal family home
Chestnut Lodge is set in what feels like the middle of a forest but within easy reach of local beaches and amenities. Very well equipped and the children loved the tree house, trampoline and rope swing. Maddie was very welcoming and made us feel at home - the delicious cream tea she provided was a welcome extra bonus. The only downside to this property is that because it is surrounded by trees very little sunlight reaches the house or the garden. In saying that we would certainly return - if you like the idea of staying in a fairytale cottage in the woods then this is the place for you!

Perfect first holiday with our new Grandaughter
We were a family of 6 adults, 1 teenager and a 6mth old baby.
The house was perfect for us all, with plenty of room for everyone .
Maddie was more than accommodating when we arrived a little early, allowing us to start unpacking and get settled.
The homemade scones (cream tea) were very much appreciated and enjoyed.
We wanted for nothing during our stay, a home from home!
A perfect base for exploring the surrounding area such as Praa Sands and Porthleven.
A lovely relaxing holiday had by all .
