Looking for a Great Vacation? This Real Log Cabin is the perfect 'back to nature' get-away. Just a few miles from the Presidential Retreat, Camp David, there are plenty of options for things to do. In the Winter, the Cabin is close to great Snow Skiing & Snow Tubing. ASK ABOUT POSSIBLE DISCOUNTS FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY (which won't last long). In the Summer, we're close to Sandy Beaches without the crowds and it's just a stone throw from Maryland LARGEST WATERFALLS. If nature is what you like, it does not get any better than this! Walk a few steps out the door and you are within 5000 acre Cunningham Falls State Park. Like to Plan Ahead?? Looking for a peaceful summer alternative to the ocean that has no tolls? Look no further.
As an added bonus, last year the 100+ acre farm right next door opened their own Winery and Distillery. Pretty Cool place to just sit, have some homegrown wine and/or vodka and enjoy the beautiful scenery with family and/or friends.
Civil War Buffs?? Battles were fought just minutes away. Just a short drive (one hour) from Washington DC and Baltimore, it is a wonderful way to get away from the crowds and stay in one of the prettiest, most rustic mountain areas of the east coast.
If nature is not what you are looking for, there are shopping malls and movie theaters nearby. A few minutes more and you can sightsee at places like Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, or one of many other great Civil War locations. The Washington Monument and the Baltimore Inner Harbor are just a short drive. We're centered between all of these places. There are three TV's, DVD Player, VCR, CD Players, and Computers. Also, there is a regulation Pool Table, Air Hockey, Foosball, Darts, and more to keep the young at heart entertained. The fully-stocked gourmet kitchen is right next to the Greatroom with a 23 foot tall stone woodburning fireplace and entertainment area. When it's cold outside, there is nothing like a roaring fire in our Log Cabin and there are tons of firewood for your enjoyment. There's even a grate so you can cook like the settlers did (kids of all ages love this). The large porch and grilling deck feature a spectacular view for simply relaxing.
Here's what people say about the Log Cabin in the Woods:
'We had a wonderfully relaxing time - perfect in all regards. The porch chairs were the perfect addition.' ~Judy
'We found everything in good order, and had a very good time in Thurmont. Amazing that you built the whole house yourself!
Thanks for everything!' ~Leendert
'We had the BEST time and the cabin was so comfortable for us. Again, if you'd like any kind of recommendation, please just let me know what format you'd like it in. Also, you can feel free to give my e-mail address out to anyone who'd like a personal reference.' ~ Margie
'The cabin was and is amazing. My whole family had a great time and it really made my dad's birthday special. We all can't wait to come back. Thanks again,' ~Brian
'We had a great time. There were just the three of us and plenty of room. You must be very proud of putting together a structure like that. I'm pretty handy but I would not tackle something like that. We were lucky enough to have a fire for several nights and then it got very warm. We used your gas grill for steaks one night. Can you believe, we didn't even have time to shoot a game of pool. Thanks again for sharing your cabin and I'm positive we will return.' ~Vernon & Elaine
'The cabin was great! We all enjoyed it. My brother-in-law wants to come again by himself to enjoy the solitude without 12 other people there! ' ~Rita
'Enjoyed the cabin very much - it's just the type of cabin we'd like to purchase to have for our visits east to see family and friends. If you ever are interested in selling it, please let us know.
Thanks so much,' ~Chris & Lisa
It was a great weekend, and the cabin was the perfect place to be. Went to Liberty on Sat. where some did ski, and made a quick trip to the Falls today. Other than that we stayed in and played board games and the kids were playing their TV games. There were a couple of pool tournaments also.
Everything went very nicely, and had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for allowing us to rent.' ~Linda and Chuck
'Great HOME!!! We loved staying at your cabin in the woods, it was better then we thought for a bunch of guys to get away from life for a little while. In time we will be re-visiting and recommending your second home.
Thank you again,' ~andrew
'The time at the cabin as I said was needed and very pleasurable. We plan to come down again, possibly next year - only with the wives this time. The word has spread about the 'cabin in the woods' and you will hear more from us...
Thanks again for a great time!!' ~Steve
'We really enjoyed your cabin and wish to thank you for opening your home to us. We tell people about our relaxing vacation in the cabin at Thurmont.
Thank you.' ~Judy
'Hi Dave! We really enjoyed our stay. The group voted to visit there next year as well, so yes, let's convert that deposit into the next deposit. I'll check with everyone about which weekend to reserve and get back to you soon. thanks!' ~dani
'Well your cabin is wonderful. The girls had a great time. We were camping in luxury. Thank you for calling to make sure we were all set up. We loved everything about your cabin,.
Thank you for letting us experience camping in luxury and we hope to come back in the fall possibly.'
~Wendy and the Girls from Troop 2037
'What a splendid time we had at the “cabin.” Our whole family, even all the grandchildren, came to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary. They treated us like a queen and king all week-end. The cabin is lovely and memorable. Sitting in the swing in the early morning takes you away from the world and helps you connect with God. Thank you for the cabin. May God bless you as you provide the cabin for rest.' ~Gilbert and Jeri

Thank you very much for the week at the cabin. Everyone had a wonderful time.
Thanks again and have a wonderful Holiday Season!
We have rented this cabin twice to celebrate the new years away from the busy city life that we're used to. The cabin is AWESOME! It's a real log cabin and you can feel the labor of love that was put into every log (especially the ceiling work in the master bedroom - wow!). The cabin is spacious and well equipped with an epic fireplace in the center of the main room (w/ LOTS of wood), an outdoor fire pit, board games (I think our group has the record for the marble game - played forwards, backwards and forwards again all in one go), pool table, air hockey table, fantastic front porch, and plenty of room for sleeping. Needless to say, the cabin has everything you'd need for a cabin getaway (and more if the nature isn't enough for you). It's well maintained and cared for and we love how it's so close to civilization yet you feel so tucked away in the woods. Make sure you check out Cunningham Falls when you come - it's a beautiful place to hike.
Dave is a pleasure to coordinate with. If you follow his instructions everything is a breeze.
Overall, if you're looking for a nice cabin to spend a week or weekend in - this is the one! We'll be coming back again!
So often, holidays can be rushed affairs, with time spent more on traveling, cooking and cleaning, then in the truly important work of just being together. Our time at the cabin for Thanksgiving gave us the gift of a world away, and a chance to reconnect with those we love.
The cabin occupies an ideal location, close enough to home that it is easy to get to, yet tucked away in the woods so that you can escape the cares that home sometimes brings. We traveled with our four almost adult children, as well as our brother and sister in law and their three kids. Dave had done a wonderful job in advance of our arrival, providing clear directions, as well as all of the information we would need to run things at the cabin and explore the surrounding area.
We found that our new home for the week was even more than we expected, and exactly what we needed. The cabin was clean and had plenty of room for the 11 of us. The enormous stone fireplace dominated the living room, and there was plenty of firewood to keep us warm every night, laughing, telling old stories and making new memories.
On Thanksgiving Day, the kitchen provided all of the space and tools to create our feast. And when we finally gathered around the table, we were as thankful for our time together at the cabin as we were for the food.
The cabin is absolutely a place of beauty, and a space for slowing down and just being. We would recommend this spot to anyone, and know that Dave and his family will make it as special as our experience was.
My sister and I and both our families met for the week at this cabin. A total of 11 people. We stayed for one week and loved every minute of it. There was so much to do inside and out. From playing in the game, playing charades, and making bed forts to roasting marshmallows, walking through the woods, visiting the state park, and the historical cities and towns that surround the area. I can't wait to visit in the winter so we can make use of the beautiful fire place.
This was a wonderful place. Would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for the ultimate cabin retreat experience.
The pictures do not do this place justice. There is a LOT of room to fit sleeping people. The fireplace is solid and has an integrated vent system that lets it heat the house very efficiently in winter. The furnishings are rustic and lovely, there are pool, foosball, and air hockey tables downstairs, and the location is great--near a confluence of trails from the local state part, and also within walking distance of a nearby winery/distillery that opened recently, itself a fine place. No internet, though cell service is great, and the TV isn't that big, but this is a place to go to experience wilderness and your fellow cabinmates rather than watch TV, so if anything that's a plus because it discourages electronic entertainment. Can be a bit hard to find, especially at night, so I recommend scouting it out before making the big trip. Only a mile or two off of the highway, though you would never know it.
Very nice place to stay. Not too far from DC, but feels woodsy. Cabin was warm and comfortable and had plenty of space for our whole crew. Kitchen had what we needed. Overall everything was great. I thought maybe there was a hot tub from some of the pictures, but there was not.
Great Snow Skiing about 20 minutes away !! Great Sandy Beach with Lifeguards for your Enjoyment and you don't have to drive through 3 hours of traffic to get there. Welcome to the New Springfield Manor Winery and Distillery, our Next Door Neighbor.
