About Katie

We began rearing cattle and sheep on the farm twenty five years ago, renovating the abandoned farm house and traditional stone built barns. Our prime motivation has always been our love of the landscape, stewardship over the natural enviroment and the respect & nurturing of the indigenous wildlife we are so proud to be surrounded by.

Why Katie chose Selside

High Thorn Farm is a small family run enterprise, occupying an enviable position nestled between the beautiful Lake District National Park and the sweeping Howgills.

Lovely location and welcoming hosts

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely 4 night stay at The Corn Store on High Thorn Farm. Katie was very welcoming, informative and happy for us to have free rein of the farm. The cottage is furnished well with a very comfy and spacious living and dining area. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need. Katie was also kind enough to add a stair gate and high chair for our toddler winch was very much appreciated. As were the wine and biscuits! Views over the farm and hills beyond are fab. The cottage is very well located for quick drives to Kendal and lake Windermere as well as the coast. Our only slight disappointment was that we had trouble getting a stable temperature in the main shower (scalding or freezing) and also enough hot water to fill the large bath tub. We did not raise this at the time as it was only a minor inconvenience.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute decision to get away for a few days at Easter. Booking was really easy. Couldn't have asked for more. Perfect location, loved the views and the fact that we were on a farm made it!

The cottage is warm, cosy, immaculate and extremely well equipped. We spent quite a bit of time in there as it felt so homely. We did go to the Eagle & Child in Stavely and also visited Bowness, Windermere & Kendal during our stay.

Katie dropped off some freshly laid eggs from the resident chickens and the prosecco, chocolates & flowers on arrival was a lovely treat! The only negative is that we couldn't stay for longer due to work but we loved it so much that we will be back! xx

Relaxing weekend stay!

  • 5 of 5

We went for a long weekend as two couples and a dog. The house was beautiful and had everything that we needed appliance wise. We had a Tesco delivery ordered for when we got there and spent most of the time eating, drinking and relaxing! There wasn't much around us which was fine as we were not looking to particularly go anywhere but there was a Morrisons a short drive away for any bits that we needed. Really great weekend had by all of us!

A cherished holiday property in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Cornstore over a long weekend and found it ideal. Having travelled up from the Midlands and relatives down from Scotland it was great to arrive in a lovely warm, well appointed and clearly cherished property. All the equipment was virtually new and good quality and it was reassuring to know that the owner took the care to present everything the way you would want it at home.

We had wonderful views in both directions so you know you are somewhere special, we travelled up to The Shap Wells Hotel to see Red Squirrels and have a Coffee and over to Bowness for lunch. The weather was a bit restricting but thats what you expect in Cumbria in November, it was a supper relaxing time - made by the choice of property.

Excellent property looks just like the pictures and is accurately described on the Web site.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in the pouring rain on a Friday night and stayed until Monday Morning our stay was made so much more enjoyable because of the

location and quality of the house.

I would recommend this property to family and friends.

I will be booking next year for a longer visit.

Many thanks

Chris, Pam and the family.

We are in a lovely rural quiet location, with rolling countryside and beautiful views all around, yet we are just a 5-10 minute drive into the busy market town of Kendal, with many amenities including supermarkets, restaurants and bars, shops, hospital etc. The Lake District town of Windermere is just a 20 minute drive.
