|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Tucked away in a well-tended, old fashioned garden full of exotic flowers, creepers, shrubs and fruit trees this house with unheated pool sleeps 5 guests in comfort. Downstairs the spacious living room, with open fireplace for log fires on winter evenings, has French windows opening on to the garden which has chairs, tables, sunbeds and parasols. The large, well-equipped kitchen with pretty integral dining area has a separate laundry room beyond. The second bathroom is near the stairs which lead to the 3 bedrooms upstairs (1 double, 1 twin & 1 single) and the main bathroom. Cheerful maid service (+ baby sitting) is provided by Ciseltina. Owner Joy, a Madeira resident for over 30 years, offers this villa and neighbouring Quinta d'Alegria (each with total privacy) to those wanting quiet surroundings, stunning views over the bay of Funchal and a perfect location at the foot of the famous Monte toboggan run. You can book them together if you need 6 bedrooms - both are longstanding favourites!
Casa Belflores is a perfect base from which to discover the interesting and busy little city of Funchal (a 10 minute ride on the local bus or 25 minutes' steep walk downhill), and of course you can go further afield to explore the spectacular mountain scenery of inland Madeira; either by foot along the 'levadas' or by car. From both the house and garden there are splendid panoramic views of the whole bay of Funchal, to the harbour and way out to sea. There are spacious terraces in the garden and around the pool for enjoying the sun, although should you prefer, plenty of shade from the old avocado pear trees. The house, which has been carefully restored to a high standard, retains many of its original features including exposed stone work walls, timbered ceilings and quaint interior window shutters and is now furnished with good quality furniture and fabrics in keeping with the character of the house. It is south and west facing and therefore reaps the maximum benefit of the sunshine.
THE POOL is located in the upper garden of the house in a very sheltered and private location with superb views - a real sun-trap because the white garden walls reflect the sun all around the area. The pool is surrounded by an extensive patio bordered by the luxuriant foliage of silver banana trees and is for the sole use of our guests. Garden furniture, sunbeds and parasols are provided.

First i would like to say that we had the best holidays in many Years.
Casa Belflores was and is a very nice house and we enjoyed all the time here. The best was our girls also liked it.
The area is perfect and easy to get to all places...Please send a big thanks to Joy for her kindness and her time. Also a big thanks to you for taken the time to visit us, Was good to see you and talk to you.
We visit Madeira in october 2009 for the first time. We searched on internet for a nice property to rent. We found Casa Belflores. We looked at the pictures and the description and we ''were solved" (a dutch expression).
We booked the house and the service we expercienced directly after the booking was great. The car hire advice and following arrangements for instance but especially the dinner proposal for the arrival day. When we finally arrived, we call the owner at the airport that we are on our way. She welcomed us warmly at the gate and had made a superb three course dinner for us. During our stay she was always at the background to contact. The house is cosy and very clean. Three times a week clean towels for example. Special towels for the swimmingpool which was situated on the upper terrace with a spectacular view on the ocean. A nice, warm and friendly restaurant at four minutes walk with very good food. But dinner at Casa Bellflores made by the owner Joy is highly recommended by us. Delicious!!
We enjoyed our stay very much. A lovely Island and rough at the same time. A beautifull house with much privacy, a wonderfull garden, swimming almost under the bananatrees etc. Very nice weather, during our stay 25 till 29 degrees. Spectaculair roads and views.
We think about visiting the other Island Porto Santo some day and then we certainly will contact Mrs Judith for advice.
A lovely house, very clean & well equipped. Joy the owner is a superb host, very helpful & a great cook. Property is at the end of the toboggan run but did not cause any inconvenience to us at all. Bus service is very good & probably a must for going into the town centre. Would definitely return here
We had a lovely stay. The house was as described and very well equipped, clean and well maintained. Excellent customer service from the owner and excellent service from the maid. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this property. We decided against hiring a car as the road system in Funchal looked a bit complicated, but we had no problems as there's such a good bus service. Favourite restaurant was Estrela do Mar.
Casa Belflores was a wonderful home base for our trip to Madeira. The house is in a peaceful location with beautiful views and easy access to Funchal with bus stops nearby. The house itself is well kept and nicely decorated! Beds are very comfortable and the fireplace and radiator are great for cool evenings. We were welcomed by the owner Joy who answered all our questions and provided us with a welcome basket of wonderful provisions. The villa was perfect for my husband, myself, my adult daughter, and my two older grandsons. I would recommend this property and would stay again. The little bakery nearby was wonderful in the morning for cafe' and bread and cakes. We were able to enjoy the fireworks with our wonderful view and also to relax by the pool. Lovely!
My husband, myself, my adult daughter and two older grandsons stayed here for vacation and loved it! The house is comfortable and clean, with everything you need to feel at home. The location has beautiful views, a nearby bakery with wonderful breads, cakes and cafe' and Funchal is easily accessible by the bus, which has stops near the house. The owner, Joy is very kind and hospitable, offering help with any questions and providing a wonderful basket of provisions for our arrival. On cool evenings we were able to have a fire and a portable heater was provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our home base for our visit to Madeira. Thank you Joy!
Beautiful house, in a lovely area, right on the road with the no 19 bus to take you down into Funchal
Lovely garden and very hospitable welcome from Joy the owner, who is also an excellent cook.
We were well looked after and were made to feel at home. Excellent views of the harbor from the window, and the house is at the bottom of the toboggan run so you can see and hear the toboggans in action!
Would highly recommend this house. Fantastic bakery nearby for fresh warm bread in the morning but be aware no other shops within walking distance.
Madeira’s charming capital town of Funchal, with its 140,000 inhabitants, sits in a large bowl that rises from a natural deep-water harbour on the south of this sub tropical island to an impressive backdrop of high mountains. It is the island’s centre of activity, with something for everyone: an opera house/theatre, chic shops, street stalls, open market, wine lodges, museums, city parks, bars, cafés and restaurants without number, multi-screen cinema, a Roman Catholic cathedral dating back to the 14th century and an English Anglican Church built in 1822. This beautiful island is famous for its tropical gardens, two championship golf courses, truly wonderful mountain and coastal walking, ocean swimming, sailing, game fishing, etc. and, above all, its friendly Portuguese inhabitants. Verdant and with varied and stunning scenery, it is definitely worth exploring and the new network of roads and tunnels make this so easy now.
Other Activities: famous tropical gardens and of course Funchal, full of history and charm, is on your doorstep.
Golf: Golfers will find two superb golf courses within easy reach - the 18-hole championship Palheiro golf course and the 27-hole Santa da Serra golf course, both with spectacular views.
