Lge Garden Villa; Accommodates up to 20; ideal for WEDDINGS & FAMILY GATHERINGS
- English, French
The family built this villa within the garden grounds of the main house, and family members have lived here for 50 years. 'Pleasant Hill' has been occupied by three tenant families over the past six years. Two of these have bought their own properties in the neighbourhood whilst the other one returned to the USA. Once you stay here, you never want to leave!
CHRIS purchased this Villa in 1970
Why CHRIS chose Milngavie
Tucked away but less than a hundred metres from the charming pedestrian-only village centre of Milngavie, this villa occupies an elevated position which affords magnificent south-westerly views with fabulous sunsets to see. It is set in a quiet neighbourhood and benefits from high-walled perimeters, affording tremendous privacy, yet enjoys easy access (< 150m away) to the start of the West Highland Way, Mugdock Country Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. The Forth-Clyde Canal, with its flat cycle tracks, is also within easy reach. Milngavie is one of Glasgow’s most sought-after semi-urban/semi-rural areas with easy access to both city centre and contrasting rural escapes. The village is situated on the edge of the beautiful Mugdock Country Park with the West Highland Way starting close by. With proximity to stunning scenery everywhere to be seen, Milngavie remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to live in Scotland. As well as its rich history, Milngavie is served by a wide range of independent shops, banks and major retailers such as M&S, Tesco and Waitrose. In addition, it has easy access to leisure amenities that include sports centres, golf courses, cinema complexes, as well as Glasgow’s renowned concert and theatre venues. The village also benefits from fantastic transport links for the M8 to Edinburgh, A9 to Stirling/Perth or M74 to the South and England. With its frequent and efficient local and main line railway networks, Glasgow is not only easily accessible by car or train but also well serviced by two local airports. Edinburgh is less than an hour’s drive, although many articles have written: “Edinburgh may only be 50 miles from Glasgow, but Glasgow is a million miles from Edinburgh!”
What makes this Villa unique
Proximity to fabulous transport links (eg. 4 trains every hour into Glasgow's amenities + direct train link to Edinburgh); Easy access to so many outdoor activities and cultural venues and events; Lovely village atmosphere coupled with the start of the West Highland Way; Private garden in quiet area.

Nothing short of perfect!
Stayed here for 3 nights for my brothers stag weekend.
Chris was a fantastic host from booking to departure.
We were greeted on arrival with homemade goodies and all the info we would need to make our stay comfortable.
The house itself was fantastic with everything you’d need to entertain for a large party.
Thanks to Chris and Frances for being amazing hosts.
Had a great time in this property. There were 19 of us and never felt like we were tripping over anybody. It was excellently positioned for all amenities. Chris the owner was very helpful and easy to contact if we had an queries .
Lovely big house would come back 😘👍🏼
Lesley communicated with ease, took good note of our advance advice about local activities, and expressed gratitude for the on-hand support. Her party of 19 were a lively group of lovely people and appeared to have a wonderful time enjoying the area, the villa/garden and the local culture. In other words, Lesley was great to deal with and we would not hesitate to host her or her friends again. Haste ye back.
An ideally located villa
Chris was the perfect host. Nothing, and I mean nothing was too much trouble for him. We had a last minute change in numbers and Chris was flexible and helpful throughout. He was committed to making our stay an excellent one. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. This was our second visit to the property and our entire party enjoyed the spacious villa and the amenities offered.
We were honoured that Nick and his family graced us with a return visit all the way from America - especially during mid-winter - and their respectful use of Pleasant Hill. It was all the more fulfilling to discover they were able to invite so many members of the wider family to join them during the festive holiday period. We were also glad the open-plan living area and second lounge provided plenty of leisure space for the different generations, and that everyone could make good use of the whole villa.
Heartfelt thanks for your kind and courteous words along with other displays of appreciation during your stay.
We would love to see you all for a further visit - Haste Ye Back.
Lovely home perfect for our family group! We celebrated Christmas as a family. Perfect location.
We enjoyed the house which was in a charming village with good heater (important in winter!) Our host and hostess were very welcoming. Thanks for the goodies they provided us and the good advices to buy local food. A memorable Christmas for all of us.
It was bold of Claudine to organise a deep mid-winter gathering of her family members from France and the USA to celebrate Christmas in Scotland. So, we're delighted they remained warm and comfortable at 'Pleasant Hill'.
She was very receptive and swift to respond to the advisory help we routinely provide our guests in advance of arrival, and especially appreciative of the various seasonal modifications we made - including tree ;-) - at the villa.
We warmly appreciated how tidy her family left the property as we needed to complete a rapid re-set for sameday arrival of another 18-guest group.
Overall a lovely lady with a lovely family - and a daughter who played the piano supremely well.
Haste ye back!
We stayed here during my sister's wedding in early December 2018. When I saw the pictures, I was not happy and at the time I felt the place is quite old. Surprisingly, the place was wonderful. there are 2 small bedrooms upstairs + 4 bedrooms on the first floor. The host actually prepared milk, bread and cereals for us "just in case you guys will be hungry" - he said - as we arrived around 11pm - quite late - he leaves next door and stayed awake waiting for us. Really appreciated. Also, he also has a little information book, which gives all info you need (ie. take away food, taxi, where to go, how to use dishwasher, etc.) Big garden - suitable for BBQ Even the curtain is thick enough to keep the house warm, the color of it does not match the house (already told him :) ) Location is quite far from City Centre - about 30 mins by car. In general, I would highly recommend this place to my friends, and absolutely I will stay here again if I ever travel to Glasgow again.
It never ceases to be a delight when a guest family seem so pleased by what the villa, the village and the vicinity have to offer. Angela, her sister and their family were able to make fabulous good use of the villa as a base where the wedding celebrations could continue well beyond the actual ceremony. Since they were competing with Christmas-shopping traffic, we quite understand it may have taken a little longer to head to/fro the wedding venue on the south side of the city, However, it’s heart-warming that Pleasant Hill continues to play host to such happy family events! Thank you for your kind and comprehensive words.
Haste ye back.
A really great place to stay!
Upon arrival the house was immaculately clean! Chris showed us how everythng worked and ,as he lives next door, would be available should any problems arise during our stay. The house has everything one could possibly need including not one, but two,
fridges. There is lots of space and the house is light and airy. There is hot water in abundance and the heating kept us very warm on chilly days!
Location is fantastic. The local station is 150 yards away and the pedestrian shopping precinct with restaurants and shops is a 3minute walk. If you have a car there is private off street parking in the garden area of the house.
I cannot say enough about the host,Chris. He was willing to do whatever it took to make our stay comfortable! This was our second visit and we WILL be returning next year!
Milngavie is one of Glasgow's most sought-after semi-urban/semi-rural areas with easy access to the city centre. The village is situated on the edge of the beautiful Mugdock Country Park with the West Highland Way starting close by. Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, the many hills and the Trossachs National Park are all easily accessible. Reaching the Forth-Clyde Canal paths, with its flat cycle tracks, is also effortless. With proximity to stunning scenery everywhere to be seen, Milngavie remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to visit in Scotland. As well as its rich history (Rockbank next door is one of the oldest in the area), Milngavie is served by a wide range of retailers, restaurants and pleasant inns. In addition, it has fantastic facilities that include grocery supermarkets, leisure and sports centres, golf courses, cinema complexes, as well as easy access to Glasgow's renowned concert and theatre venues. Although there is a (highly-regarded) primary school nearby, this will be closed from late June to the end of August. Outwith school hours, the area is extremely quiet (unless planes heading to Glasgow airport are flying unusually low).
