About the property

Stunning garden villa with 1 twin, 2 double, 3 quadruple bedrooms + 3 bathrooms

Stunning garden villa, with 3 quadruple, 2 double & 1 twin bedrooms with 3 bathrooms / WCs. More often than not, guests use the second lounge's double sofabed as the 6th bedroom, plus the main living-reception area has a further large double sofabed (nb. limited privacy). All rooms and lounges are spacious enough for flexibility in accommodating extra children or adults with bedlinen provided for all guests. All of which provides ample space for sleeping up to 20 guests (higher than this if you wish to include more guests sleeping on folding beds). The lounge also has a real log/coal fire to help make evenings more cozy.

Amenities include full gas central heating with radiators in all rooms, instant hot water, double glazing, real log/coal fire, good quality beds, TV in all lounges (including DVD & Freeview), range double-oven cooker and hob, extraction hood, grill, combination microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, high-walled private mature garden, BBQ and children's treehouse. A 14’ trampoline is also made available for guests. There is WIFI internet access, ample off and on street parking (free), and bedding/towels are provided. Mid week change of towels is provided for longer stays. The garden provides a wide area for outdoor games or running around, perhaps whilst meals are being prepared on the gas BBQ. Other entertainment such as board games can be laid on in case of less favourable weather.

This is an impressive, fresh and beautifully designed detached villa on two levels, featuring contemporary décor with wooden floors and modern bathroom facilities. The property occupies an elevated position which affords magnificent south and westerly views with fabulous sunsets to enjoy. Guests are often rewarded with stunning panoramic vistas over nearby hills and countryside. Its new contemporary kitchen-dining-reception area is wonderfully bright with fabulous triple-aspect views and direct access via French doors and wide timber deck to the extensive garden area. Overall, there is a substantial area for both dining and seating with open-vaulted cathedral ceiling, well appointed appliances and ample solid oak traditional units throughout. The villa also comprises reception hall, sitting room, computer/study area, family bathroom with airing cupboard, shower room and additional WC-cloakroom. The house includes utility room with fitted washing facilities, single garage plus roof terrace above and plenty of fitted wardrobes / cupboards providing ample storage facilities.

The villa is set in a quiet neighbourhood and benefits from high-walled perimeters, affording tremendous privacy, yet enjoys easy access (< 150m away) to the start of the West Highland Way, Mugdock Country Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. The Forth-Clyde Canal, with its flat cycle tracks, is also within easy reach. It is tucked away but less than a hundred metres from the charming, pedestrian-only, luxury garden village centre of Milngavie, which is 20 minutes from Glasgow’s city centre. Off-street parking behind solid privacy gates is available for 4 cars in the driveway, with ample on-street parking also (free). Milngavie is one of Glasgow’s most sought-after semi-urban/semi-rural areas with easy access to both city centre and contrasting rural escapes. The village is situated on the edge of the beautiful Mugdock Country Park with the West Highland Way starting close by. With proximity to stunning scenery everywhere to be seen, Milngavie remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to live in Scotland. As well as its rich history, Milngavie is served by a wide range of independent shops (crafts, delis & grocery stores), banks and major retailers such as M&S, Tesco and Waitrose. It is only 1 minute walk to an abundance of local facilities all within the traffic-free village centre. In addition, it has easy access to leisure amenities that include sports centres, golf courses, cinema complexes, as well as Glasgow’s renowned concert and theatre venues. The village also benefits from fantastic transport links for the M8 to Edinburgh, A9 to Stirling/Perth or M74 to the South and England. With its frequent and efficient local and main line railway networks, Glasgow is not only easily accessible by car or train but well serviced by two local airports.

Business and corporate clients can make use of free internet access and the high quality of living space makes it ideal for entertaining or for family gathering events. Families with youngsters will be easily entertained by the proximity of EITHER (in one direction) the many walks, lochs and beautiful scenery OR (in the other direction) the Kelvingrove Galleries, Botanic Gardens or Transport Museum and copious concert venues. Oodles of easily-accessed bus, taxi and train transport options (all <5 minutes walk) provide access to the many outstanding cultural, sporting, music and culinary delights which helped make Glasgow into this city of culture and architecture.

Guests can simply arrive, relax and unwind in the spacious living areas, comprising a custom-made kitchen featuring oakwood finishings and modern kitchen appliances to prepare scrumptious lunches or evening meals. Alternatively, meals can be prepared by trained cooks. [During the winter seasons, they have catered for ski chalet guests in the Alps.] Very reasonable prices available for family meals - breakfasts, afternoon teas and evening meals - whilst you enjoy the vast range of nearby amenities, bars, coffee shops - all within walking distance.

About CHRIS

The family has lived here for nearly 50 years.

'Pleasant Hill' has been occupied by three tenant families over the past six years. Two of these have bought their own properties in the neighbourhood whilst the other one returned to the USA. Once you stay here, you never want to leave!

CHRIS purchased this villa in 1970

Why CHRIS chose Milngavie

Tucked away but less than a hundred metres from the charming pedestrian-only village centre of Milngavie, this villa occupies an elevated position which affords magnificent south-westerly views with fabulous sunsets to see. It is set in a quiet neighbourhood and benefits from high-walled perimeters, affording tremendous privacy, yet enjoys easy access (< 150m away) to the start of the West Highland Way, Mugdock Country Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. The Forth-Clyde Canal, with its flat cycle tracks, is also within easy reach.

As well as its rich history, Milngavie is served by a wide range of independent shops, banks and major retailers such as M&S, Tesco and Waitrose.

With its frequent and efficient local and main line railway networks, Glasgow is not only easily accessible by car or train but also well serviced by two local airports. Edinburgh is less than an hour’s drive, although many articles have written: “Edinburgh may only be 50 miles from Glasgow, but Glasgow is a million miles from Edinburgh!”

What makes this villa unique

Proximity to fabulous transport links (eg. 4 trains every hour into Glasgow's amenities + direct train link to Edinburgh);

Easy access to so many outdoor activities and cultural venues and events;

Owner's Response: What lovely guests - it’s always easy to host when guests seem delighted by what the villa, the village and the vicinity have to offer. This was an unusual reservation partly because the time difference between initial enquiry and guests moving in amounted to a matter of hours! It can't have been easy for them to pack up and move from their home for a few days, but they appeared happy to be looked after and staying somewhere clean and warm for a while. The close access to the village, ample supply of supermarkets and proximity to the schools were obvious conveniences for them. We not only appreciated their high respect and appreciation for our property but were also all the more content because they seemed so happy and settled in their temporary digs! Haste ye back. Chris

Perfect for large groups

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic property for large groups in a great location. The owner could not have done more to make our trip a special one and our stay in Milngavie and surrounding area was the more enjoyable for having a great base.

Perfect for big groups

  • 5 of 5

Big, clean, comfortable house with large garden. Perfect for a large group, with plenty of room for little kids to run around in safety. It would be a great base for hikers, as it's within easy reach of Loch Lomand and the West Highland Way. The owner's customer care was excellent before, during and after our stay. Would highly recommend.

Great vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to Chris for being such a terrific host! Chris was always quick to respond to any questions we had about our visit and travels and super welcoming to my family. We enjoyed the spacious home and the children really enjoyed playing in the garden and clubhouse. The house is close to the train into Glasgow which made it very convenient. Overall, I would definitely recommend this home!"

Well maintained and equipped villa

  • 5 of 5

Our host Chris was fantastic and made us feel at home from the moment we walked through the door. I would recommend the villa to families and groups. Located in a nice quiet area within a short drive from Glasgow. Property is well maintained and well equipped. Looking forward to returning soon.

Owner's Response: Our heartfelt thanks to Liz and her group for their kind and courteous words and other displays of appreciation during their stay (not least the bottles of fine Rioja). It was all the more fulfilling to see this group make full use of the wider area for their R&R during a cold weather snap. We were glad the bedroom configurations and living areas satisfied spatial needs. And although the weather and traffic meant you suffered an extended return journey, we would love to see everyone for a return visit. Haste ye back, Chris

  • 5 of 5

"Our team of 15 were able to return to stay (in 15 separate beds) at Pleasant Hill for a total of 2 months. From outset, they found the villa to be comfortable, the area to be very quiet, and the hosts to be super responsive - even to the extent of refreshing linen and cleaning the property overnight each week whilst our colleagues worked night-shifts. Throughout our stay, the hosts have proven to be thorough and over-deliver in all senses. Frankly, it's an expansive house in a peaceful and convenient location. Without hesitation, we will book this villa again when we’re next in the area - not just because of its location and the living areas (which are superb), but also because of two tremendous and dedicated hosts."

Owner's Response: Our warmest thanks to Vince and his group for their kind and courteous words and other displays of appreciation during their stay. It was all the more fulfilling to see this group make full use of the property for their comfort, and we were glad the accommodation capacity so clearly satisfied their spatial needs. Trusting the 30 hour return journey didn't cripple anyone, we would love to see you all for a return visit. Haste ye back, Chris

Milngavie is one of Glasgow's most sought-after semi-urban/semi-rural areas with easy access to the city centre. The village is situated on the edge of the beautiful Mugdock Country Park with the West Highland Way starting close by. Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, the many hills and the Trossachs National Park are all easily accessible. Reaching the Forth-Clyde Canal paths, with its flat cycle tracks, is also effortless. With proximity to stunning scenery everywhere to be seen, Milngavie remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to visit in Scotland. As well as its rich history (Rockbank next door is one of the oldest in the area), Milngavie is served by a wide range of retailers, restaurants and pleasant inns. In addition, it has fantastic facilities that include grocery supermarkets, leisure and sports centres, golf courses, cinema complexes, as well as easy access to Glasgow's renowned concert and theatre venues. The village also benefits from fantastic transport links for the M8 to Edinburgh, A9 to Stirling/Perth or M74 to the South and England. With its frequent and efficient local and main line railway networks, Glasgow is easily accessible by car or train, and well serviced by two local airports.

Although there is a (highly-regarded) primary school nearby, this will be closed from late June to the end of August. Outwith school hours, the area is extremely quiet (unless planes heading to Glasgow airport are flying unusually low).
