About the property

Please view our website for full details: (link below)

Like dazzling jewels, the towns of Como, Tremezzo, Menaggio, and Bellagio sparkle along the shores of Lake Como, where also glitters a hidden gem, Sala Comacina.

Here in this lakeside-idyll steeped in ancient Roman history stands Casa Matra Ponto, the ideal getaway offering space and comfort for six or romantic hideaway for two.

Free Wi-Fi is included at Matra Ponto.

Air-conditioning for your added comfort -

In northern Italy, the Mediterranean climate of Lake Como is influenced by the surrounding mountains rising to some 1000 metres above the lake surface, often with humid summer days, but with gorgeous balmy evenings (air-con being rare in Italy), with the result that the shoulder seasons of spring & autumn may be more agreeable for travelling.

With its thick walls and double-glazing Matra Ponto may be kept cooler if windows are closed and shuttered during the day; and for your added comfort we provide free-standing air conditioning to the kitchen / sitting room, and box-fans to circulate air in the bedrooms.

Casa Matra Ponto's beautifully realised rustic charm, created by combining two houses each over 300 years old, extends over three levels and is accentuated in the homely kitchen. In the upstairs bedrooms antique furnishings and quality bedding provide a restful ambiance where an additional sitting room and balcony adjoining the master bedroom offer privacy for romance.

Sheltered by the only island in Lake Como 'Isola Comacina', Sala as the village is known locally - the 'salon' of the lake, enjoys a unique sun-drenched micro-climate. Here you are invited to enjoy village life with every convenience close at hand: freshly baked bread daily, artisan butcher, groceries, café/bar, local tavern, fine dining choices, water taxi and boat connections, local bus service, bank/Bancomat, newsagent, post office, and village church; all within 200 metres.

Free Wi-Fi is also available in the village at the Enoteca Le Tout Paris adjacent to Amalia's bakery, and at Cimino's Bar Sport near the bank with ATM/Bancomat.

Free parking is available in the village precinct.

Check-in and Check-out times are usually flexible, unless change-over days overlap between guests. In that case, check-out is at 10am and check-in is at 4pm.

We'll welcome you to the apartment for the check-in and for the check-out to exchange the keys, view the apartment, provide information about the area and answer your questions.

Chat with the neighbours; enjoy an 'aperitivo'; relax with a coffee in the square; swim at the beach; take a boat to explore the island or cross to Bellagio; visit Como or Menaggio, hike to Switzerland, or simply plan another lazy day enjoying what Sala and Matra Ponto have to offer.

You can make secure on-line payments for Deposit and Final Payment via PayPal by bank transfer (T/T) or with a Credit Card.

Quintessentially Italian with an abundance of charm!

  • 5 of 5

Booked the house for our family holiday. Wendy our host was extremely kind and helpful both before and during our visit. Always on hand to answer questions and give us advice. In fact her hospitality went way beyond our expectations.

She met us on arrival and welcomed us to the beautiful house. A welcome basket of food was there (perfect when you arrive in the evening!).

The house had ample equipment all in perfect condition including a brand new cooker. So for a family it's easy to cook if you don't want to eat out all the time.

Two lovely and extremely comfortable bedrooms with gorgeous bed linen, lots of storage space and a balcony to sit with morning coffee or evening wine.

A lovely living room with plenty of room to sit and relax or watch tv and a grand old kitchen.

The house is situated it a lovely street in Sala Comacina, close to the lake, shops and restaurants as well as a small beach area but there's plenty of places to swim.

The village is lovely, very friendly neighbours and locals and plenty of short walks around the village or further along the 'Greenway'.

Sala Comacina is a good base for the lake, we made excursions by boat to many of the other villages and towns, as well as to Milan and Lugano.

There's plenty of other activities locally either sporty or not so sporty depending on your preference.

Lake Como is an area of outstanding natural beauty and well with a visit either for a short break or longer. Either way, Wendy's house is a good place to stay and you won't be disappointed!

Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Stunning scenery, delightful small village, adorable home with everything we could have wanted.

  • 5 of 5

We hit the jackpot having Wendy as our host! We felt totally spoilt by her, we were introduced to local people and given great advice on places to visit and how to explore this amazing part of the world. There are several restaurant choices within a 5 minute walk as well as the local ferry stop. The bus trip to the house is slightly hair raising, but once Wendy "captured" us off the bus we began to relax and enjoy the beautifully decorated and equipped house and all that Lake Como has to offer. It was the highlight of our Italian sojourn.

Bezaubernde und Liebevolle Unterkunft im schnuckeligen Sala Comacina

  • 4 of 5

  • 4 of 5

Owner's Response: Claire, Yann and their family were the most delightful guests. Very friendly, polite and respectful I would highly recommend they stay as your guests should you have the opportunity. I do hope they return to Sala Comacina, Lake Como.

Sala Comacina, opposite the only island can be reached by C10 bus, taxi, or ferry (in season).

From Malpensa take the Malpensa Express to Saronno and change trains for Como Lago Nord.

For drivers take the Como Nord exit and continue along the SS340 in the direction of Menaggio. The vehicle may be unloaded at the top of Via Rava.

Free parking is available in the village precinct.

In the village free Wi-Fi is available at the Enoteca adjacent to the bakery, or at Cimino's cafe/bar adjacent to the bank.

In Sala guests are invited to enjoy village life with every convenience close at hand: bakery with freshly baked bread daily (newspapers, and general items), artisan butcher, weekly vegetable van, café/bar/wine merchant, Enoteca, a selection of dining choices with outdoor tables in season, water-taxi service, ferry connections, local C10 bus service, bank with Bancomat (ATM), post office, and village church; all within 200 metres of Casa Matra Ponto.

Sala Comacina is blessed with quality dining establishments, which strive to offer both locals and tourists alike a unique choice of dining experiences throughout the year, irrespective of the season.

During the summer months locals and visitors alike may enjoy the newly constructed beach with pool at the end of Via Rocco. Here children can swim in safely in the otherwise deep waters of the lake.
