Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Old West Broad Neighborhood - Stark Tower - The Guild Hall

3 bedroom, 1 bath apartment on the campus of The Guild Hall

Not familiar with Tony Stark and The Avengers? No problem: In the comic book (and wildly popular movies), Stark Tower (SVR-00346) is the posh home of billionaire inventor Tony Stark (who also happens to be Iron Man!). Plus, the Avengers sort of adopt Stark Tower as their official HQ. Yes, we know, it's just superhero fiction, but just trust us on this. You *want* to be cool like Tony Stark. You *need* to stay in Stark Tower.

What do we mean by high ceilings? How does 18 feet grab ya? And oh god, the crown molding. It's just so ... I don't know .. Historic! Oh, and hardwood floors *all day*, y'all. Again, very much an Historic Savannah thing. (See how we used 'an' before the word 'historic'? That's how you know we're educated, or maybe from ye olden times. Hard to tell which.)

Did we mention the spaciousness? We are talking about maximally commodious, especially for something in Historic Downtown. The eat-in kitchen can accommodate three folks at the table, but with so much space elsewhere, why eat in the kitchen?!?! Each of the three bedrooms has its own theme - Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Dr. Who - complete with thematically appropriate decor to enhance your vacation experience. The Star Trek bedroom has two queen-sized beds, the Lord of the Rings bedroom has one king-sized bed (of course), and the Dr. Who bedroom has one queen and one twin. So, the apartment can sleep as many as ten people, if you really like each other and include the couch and love seat in the living room.

The bathroom has both a walk-in shower and a claw-foot tub. Because, you know, Tony Stark is not above going old school, y'all! Plus, Lord of the Rings. Right? You could bathe, like, 40 hobbits! The living room has plenty of seating and a flat-screen television with Roku (so, you get access to your Hulu, Netflix, etc.). There is a dishwasher in the kitchen and a washer & dryer in the hallway closet. So, basically, we've got you covered from an amenities standpoint.

The apartment door has a wifi-enabled combination lock, and we send you the combination the day before you check in. So, you can show up any time you like without the need to get keys from us (or hoping we send them to you in the mail in sufficient time) and you can check out without having to drop them off. Plus, everyone in your party can have the 'key' as long as you decide to share the combination with them. Ain't technology grand?!?

The apartment has an outdoor deck that is covered in Confederate Jasmine and looks out over a bucolic garden with a brick path running through it. It's essentially a hidden garden in the middle of Historic Downtown Savannah. If you check out an online map service that rhymes with bugle you can see the lush foliage and trees behind the building right next to the gravel parking area.

And we haven't even gotten to the coolest part about Stark Tower. It's located at The Guild Hall! What is The Guild Hall, you ask? It's a place where creative people - coders, makers, designers, gamers, performers, and storytellers - can get together, have fun, learn new skills, or just relax. Sort of like a clubhouse for creative people. Check out our website at the http://theguildhall.com. We like to think of it as Nerdvana, but not everyone is into the whole 'nerd' label. And, hey, that's cool.

No, but seriously, there is no place like this anywhere else. The Arena is where people can play video and computer games, board games, table-top RPGs, and CCGs like Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, and My Little Pony. Just a few feet away from Stark Tower is our own gamer pub, The Chromatic Dragon, where you can eat delicious food, quaff frosty beverages, and play boardgames or video games in a relaxed nerd-pub environment.

When you stay as a guest in the Stark Tower, you get free memberships for up to six people for the duration of your visit. Each free membership comes with access to all four buildings and hours of free gaming time. And, if needed, you can purchase additional memberships for the rest of your party at a discounted price. Because we love you.

We are happy to leave you alone to enjoy your stay, but your stay with us also makes you a temporary member of The Guild Hall. So, if you are 18 or older and want to play games or just hang out, we are always around from noon every day until 11 pm Sunday - Wednesday and into the wee hours (at least 2 am) Thursday - Saturday. Not that kids aren't welcome when you stay at Stark Tower! They totally are! But we think the adults deserve to be able to get their game on, too!

Historic Downtown is freakin' awesome!

Obviously, you don't have to enjoy The Guild Hall to stay at Stark Tower. The apartment is pretty freakin' great all on its own, within walking distance to Forsyth Park and all of Historic Downtown. There are too many museums, historic buildings, art galleries, antique shops, and other interesting places to mention. Savannah is chock full of that stuff!

And Stark Tower is just a few blocks from Old Town Trolley Tours, so you can do all the sightseeing you like!

Stark Tower is located within walking distance of several great restaurants, including The Chromatic Dragon (our gamer pub), Crystal Beer Parlor (a Savannah Institution for 100 years), The Distillery (a delightful emporium of craft beers and great food), Rancho Alegre (the best Cuban restaurant in Savannah), and Savannah Coffee Roasters (coffee so good you'll swoon and dishes like quiche, pot pie, and sandwiches of the gods). And that's just a few items within a four block radius. This is Historic Downtown Savannah, so you have extended walkable access to scores of restaurants.

Nerd Apartment

  • 5 of 5

The property was great, roomy, clean and well furnished. It would be more convenient to have a second bathroom, but for our group on this trip, it worked out. Other potential renters may want to think about that though. I would definitely return to stay here again and I think that fact speaks for itself.

Perfect spot for any number

  • 5 of 5

The rooms were all spacious and well-furnished. The owners were fantastic, and the pub was everything you could hope for. Overall excellent accommodations. I was there for a bachelor party and there was plenty of room for everyone. Additionally, the location was close enough to walk to downtown Savannah. Zero complaints. Next time I'm in Savannah with a group I'm definitely coming here again!

Great for Large Groups

  • 5 of 5

PRO: The house slept our whole party which is difficult to find! Nice decor, comfy beds, the house is clean and spacious with plenty of seating and entertaining room. The TV is nice with netflix and wifi for when it rained. The nearby park has farmers market. The game room is a cool treat and the restaurant downstairs was delicious.

CON: The bar and street traffic downstairs were pretty noisy at night if you're a delicate sleeper. The walk to the "hot spots" is a good distance, so bring the right shoes! The kitchen doesn't have baking sheets or baking dishes, but seemed to have everything else. One bathroom could be a challenge for some large groups.

Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The parking lot, courtyard, and accommodations are quite cozy and comfortably slept 10 girls for a bachelorette party. Doesn't hurt that there is great food downstairs, even late at night. I will say it is a decent walk, a little over a mile down MLK from River Street, which got a little sketchy late at night. Uber was less than $10 and safer than walking a group of girls back.

Incredibly Easy, Private Stay

  • 4 of 5

The courtyard was a great hangout and the apartment was clean and neat and a perfect fit for a large family. It was completely hassle-free with a code sent a few hours before check-in and everything else ready on the front table when arriving for parking and access to the Guild Hall.

The older kids loved exploring all of the buildings and the various hangouts and communities. The walking distance of Family Dollar and Hardees were perfect for late night and early morning runs.

Close to everything without being tied up in traffic and parking mess of downtown Savannah.

No baking pans -- so be sure to bring your own or grab some foil next door when you stock up the kitchen. And, we left a can opener for the next guest :) Other than that, the kitchen had the necessities to feed a group of 8.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay! We had baking pans and a can opener, so I guess they must have walked off at some point and we didn't notice. Thanks for letting us know about that - I will replace the pans right away!
