Upscale beach house in Corneille Estates, Fire Island (next to Ocean Beach). This is a beautiful, modern house 150 yards from the beach and a short walk to the town of Ocean Beach. The house features central air conditioning and heat which allows maximum comfort whenever you choose to rent. There are nice views from the deck (you can even see the ocean and the bay in the distance!) with meticulous landscaping of the gardens which surround the house. The house has five bedrooms and two full bathrooms, as well as an outdoor shower. The four bedrooms on the ground floor have wall-to-wall carpeting; the halls and bathrooms have slate floors. The upstairs is an open design, featuring hardwood floors, modern kitchen, breakfast bar, large dining area table, living area, FIOS Internet and a large deck with furniture and a Weber grill.
We also have a natural pond in the backyard and a small owners apartment under the deck......

We love that is a raised house protected from any flooding and it has an overall great vibe! Corneille Estates is known for its low key & natural energy, yet it is close to all the conveniences of Ocean Beach right next door.
So close to the beach, only steps away from the ocean. It is very spacious & amazing for a family or a trip with friends.
We had a wonderful time at this home. The bedrooms were comfortable and roomy. The house is in an area that is an easy walk to the beach, active during the day but quiet in the evening. The owners were helpful and great hosts. It is an easy walk to town but far enough away to be out of the noise and bustle of the "downtown area", close enough for an evening stroll for icecream:) The beach is beautiful and the house has everything you would need. We were able to cook all of our meals with ease.
We had a mixed experience, and I'll try to write as fair of a review as possible. The house is in a great location, very close to a nice beach, and the natural pool in the backyard is completely gorgeous, and my toddler son loved it. The house itself is fine, though the fixtures in the upstairs bathroom and the kitchen were somewhat falling apart.
When we checked in, there were a few immediate problems--the AC wasn't working in the downstairs, where both our very small children were to sleep. When we mentioned this as an issue, the owner told us that she had never used it, and implied that if it were her, she would have her children sleep upstairs with us. Why we would have rented a house with so many bedrooms if we were all going to sleep in one, I don't know. There were also ants all over the kitchen--not the few ants you might expect to see in any beach house, but ants everywhere. We later found them in our bed as well.
When we spoke to the owners the next morning, they did address these issues quickly, though not without a certain amount of judgement--they told us repeatedly that they never used the air-conditioning, and seemed befuddled as to why it mattered so much to us, ditto for the ants.
The other issue that we had was that though it had said in the listing that the owners stayed in an apartment beneath the house when it was rented, we assumed that the situation would be one that we had had several times in the past in rentals, where the owner makes themselves rather scarce. With this house, the owners and their family were omnipresent--the children would come in and out of the part of the house that we were occupying, and the owners were usually found by the pool, which was directly below. (I hate to mention this because it feels like complaining about someone else's children, and the kids were friendly and sweet, but it is not what I want in a rental, to feel like I'm in someone else's family space, family included.)
The second day we were there, there was a power outage at the end of the day. When we walked in, the owner didn't even mention it, and when we went outside to ask him if he'd heard anything, he told us that he assumed one of his neighbors would call the power company, and offered us no indication that he was willing to ask any questions on our behalf. We decided to cut our losses and leave early, rather than have another night. It's really too bad--the pool is fabulous, as is the location.
