This delightful self catering apartment is on the edge of Chatel in Petit Chatel. There is a roomy living/dining area with a separate kitchen. The long south facing balcony offers breathtaking panoramic views of ski slopes, with the main village and Dranse Valley below. Two recently refurbished bedrooms provide ample storage space and flexible sleeping possibilities. The double bedroom has French windows opening onto the balcony with views down the valley. The bunk bedded room has one set of bunk beds with a pull out bed underneath. There is also a futon which can be used as a sofa or extra sleeping if needed. The bathroom contains a bath, shower and washbasin. There is a separate toilet. The kitchen has been recently refurbished and is equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, hob, oven and microwave. Underfloor heating throughout the apartment is supplemented with electric wall heaters.

Outside there is a ski locker and a covered private parking area.

Summer Season Rentals: Based above the village of Chatel the apartment commands stunning views of the Dranse valley. Being south facing you can sit and admire the view all day. For the more active, you can wander through the woods, over the alpine pastures behind the apartment or ascend the nearby mountains. If you do not want to walk uphill some of the ski-lifts run in July and August enabling you to enjoy the views without the effort. Walk away from the lifts and the quiet valleys are full of wildlife. Mountain bike trails use the ski runs during the summer: many shops hire out suitable bikes and equipment. There is an open air swimming pool and a number of tennis courts in Chatel. The tourist office has information on the extensive entertainment programmes which run during the season, including guided walks, concerts and children's activities. We participate in the Portes du Soleil MulitPass scheme. Further afield there are golf courses around and sailing on Lake Geneva - just 45 minutes from Chatel.

Duvets and pillows are provided but not linen or towels. These can be hired through the agents in Chatel village. End of week cleaning can also be arranged with the agents. The parking is a covered parking place offering good protection from the winter snow.

Schöne Gegend mit einer guten, bezahlbaren Wohnung

Die Wohnung ist verhältnismässig gross für den Preis. Der Preis war gut am gebuchten Datum, wenn man die Textilien selber mitbringt und die Endreinigung selber macht. Es gibt eine gute Küche, eine tolle Wohnecke und eine gemütliche Ecke mit einem Esstisch. Die Ausstattung ist guter Durchschnitt. Es gibt ein sehr gutes wlan, Sat-Tv und für den Winter gibt es genug Heizungen.

Das Auto kann in einer Garage versorgt werden, was wegen dem starken Schneefall ein grosser Vorteil war. Man hat einen Balkon mit gutem Ausblick. Der Kontakt mit der Agence war unkompliziert und angenehm. Wenn genug Schnee vorhanden ist, kann man bei einigen Liften in der Region skifahren. Ausserhalb von der Hauptsaison scheint im Winter nicht so viel los zu sein in Châtel.

Excelent introduction to the Alps in winter

The description is spot on; a very well designed apartment with everything you need to self-cater and be comfortable. Beautiful location, especially when it's warm enough to use the balcony and have the full views up and down the valley.

It's clean and well maintained so we did not ask for any further service.

I'd recommend it to anyone who loves the mountains, outdoor activities, yet village amenities in easy reach

We loved the local walks, snow shoeing (easy to hire in Chatel), excellent bakery, butcher, supermarket, weekly market, refuges and cafes within walk/ bus/ lift reach in winter. Also enjoyed a concert of Savoyard songs in the church

It's so good we keep on coming back!

This was the third time we've stayed in this lovely apartment. It's always immaculate with tons of space, and the views from the south facing balconies are stunning. The skiing is much better than we ever expected in Chatel, with easy access to the Portes du Soleil circuit. We've always been lucky with the snow, and often been able to ski almost back to the apartment (right to the doorstep if you don't mind dodging over a fence and down the field opposite - great if the snow is deep!) I don't ski every day, sometimes we go snow-shoeing, again from the chalet. A favourite walk is up to the ridge and then back down via Theo's restaurant (near the Barbossine lift) where you can get the best hot chocolate in the area! (open in winter only). Although the chalet is up the hill out of the town, it's easy to get to the main lifts as the bus stops right outside and goes direct to both Super Chatel and Linga lifts. There's never a problem getting a seat as the bus starts just a couple of stops away. It's a shame there's no baker nearby (in January at least) but we can always get bread in the village on the way home in the evening, and you can buy excellent cheese from the farm next door. I expect we'll be back again!

Chatel 2012

Back to Sally's apt for another ski hol. Enjoyed apt last season so back again. Can't fault this place, good location, excellent facilities and 'a home away from home'. Could have skied to door as loads of snow this year if we'd figured out how to but no direct access and think its across a field & we didn't feel that adventurous! Must find out for next year. Another great time, as said lots more snow this year, great skiing and some great eats in and out. You must try the Ristourante/Crepery Genepy in the village, scallop risotto to die for and a langoustine & scallop meal that was excellent. One note if hiring a car, the access from apt's is up a slight steep hill & if lots of white stuff fallen snow tires a must, don't be cheap (like us) & hire from French side of Geneva airport as they do not routinely fit snow tires, the Swiss side do. We ended up paying 100E for snow chains- a ward of warning on car hire! But overall brill holiday, will back next year!

Lovely Chalet.

We stayed in Sally's apt in Feb 2011. All comms and information from owner very prompt and very helpful. Agent Cruz in town who look after the property were very helpful in general and sorted our linen and lift passes smoothly, thank you Joyce & team! On arrival at Chatel the apt was not too hard to find located a couple of minutes by car up the side of the mountain overlooking Chatel village which is lovely for peace & quiet but a car is essential if you do not want to use the ski bus (which is regular till late evening to be fair) or unless you are very fit! The apt itself is well set out, easy to access from the car parking area and well furnished and very comfortable. It has a high standard of equipment throughout and we were very impressed, cannot fault the amenities. Beds very comfy, settees comfy and plenty of hot water for 3 people. The view is excellent over Chatel itself and the balcony gets the sun till late afternoon and is very spacious. A minor point about the satellite TV, not sure if dish needed re-positioning but all the english channels we could recieve were BBC news, CNBC and a one more that escapes me, all other channels in french unfortunately. The other english channels were there but would not recieve a signal. Perhaps some english DVD's or games would be in order or, take your own if you do not go out much & just like to chill out apres ski. Overall though we had a brilliant time and enjoyed a few evenings chilling in the apt and cannot really fault it. Highly recommended and we would certainly go back again. Not a lot of snow this season off piste or low down so was unable to sample the ski to door or Barbossine lift but certainly a possibility in a good snow season. 10/10! Many thanks.

Christmas in Chatel 2009

Chatel proved to be a lovely place to spend Christmas and all the family enjoyed the magical torchlit procession around the lake to mark the arrival of Father Christmas on Christmas Eve. The location of the flat slightly out of town up the hillside affords spectacular views up and down the valley (and was great for watching the fireworks on New Year's Eve!)

The flat was even better than we had hoped for from the description. It was well euipped and tastefully furnished with plenty of room for the five of us. Having a washing machine was handy. There is a bakery not far away for croissants in the morning.

The bus stops right outside making it easy to get into the town centre to the lifts in Chatel or further up the valley to the nearby resorts of Linga and Pre la Joux, if you prefer not to drive.

We had a great week and would love to come back to this flat to experience the views from the balcony in the Summertime!

Chatel retains the original charm of a rustic Alpine village whilst accommodating an active winter and summer holiday season. The apartment is on the edge of the village in Petit Chatel offering spectacular views and the chance to get away from it all. Chatel lies at the heart of the famous Portes du Soleil winter sports area, which spans the border between France and Switzerland. In summer, mountain bike trails utilise some of the slopes. From your doorstep you can walk through woodland or over alpine pastures to Switzerland, or down into Chatel to explore the shops and restaurants. There are hundreds of well marked itineraries for mountaineers and walkers of all abilities, whatever the season. The village is only 45 minutes drive down the mountain to the sophisticated towns on the shores of Lake Geneva and the Rhone valley, providing good access for the exploration of the mountains of France, Switzerland and Italy.

Ski: The apartment is a 2 minute drive or 5 minute walk from the nearest ski lift. A free bus stops frequently at the top of the apartment's drive, going directly to the nearest ski lift and on to the centre of Chatel. Local ski lifts link into the Portes du Soleil area providing you with 650 Km of pistes for winter sports. This means that whatever your skill level you will be well catered for. If you prefer not to ski there are quiet winter walks, accessible directly from the apartment, which can be undertaken with or without snow shoes. There are plenty of places to hire equipment and obtain ski tuition in the village along with friendly restaurants and bars for apres ski. The tourist office has information on the extensive entertainment programmes which run during the season.

Linen rental:
4.50€ per bath sheet. 2.50€ per bathroom towel.
Baby bed rental: 25€ per week.

For short term rentals the following fees may apply:-
3 days = 60% of weekly rate
4 days = 75% of weekly rate
5 days = 90% of weekly rate

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
