A little piece of home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here recently while visiting Eastbourne. This little house is so cute and had plenty of room for the 4 of us. It had a bathtub which we used as it was chilly and damp weather-wise while we were visiting Eastbourne. It is a short walk from the main shopping area but far enough that it is safe and quiet. I have nothing but positive remarks regarding our stay. The owner even let us keep our bags on site for a while after check out so we could leave without dragging around all of our stuff

Nice little cottage

  • 4 of 5

Had lovely days in Eastbourne.

The cottage is clean and very well located in a quiet street but only a few minutes walk to the beach and about 10 minutes walk to the city centre with shops etc.

The house is great for a couple with one child. We went with 2 Kids (17 months and 6 years). For us 4 it was quiet a bit small and the stairs are a bit tricky with a little boy.

We had great weather so used the outside area in the backyard which was great.

Anyway we had a good time and would recommend the house completely. Thanks to Joanne!

Comfortable, clean and well equipped.

We had a delightful stay, the cottage is lovely and the beach and town are just a walk away.

The main front door needs a catch of some sort as at the moment it swings open when unlocked.

This terraced house was very neat and tidy although small. The garden wall was adjacent to a car park, next to the rear of a pub, I think. During the early evening the children ran in scared. I went outside and heard youths swearing. I spoke politely to them that they were scaring my children. They were then abusive to me. I also smelled marijuana.

We stayed during a cold winter weekend. However, the owner had only set the heating timer for 4 hours for the whole day. My children and I were cold and had to sit with duvet covers around our shoulders. I contacted the owner who had seemed nice when making the booking but had to deal with her partner at all times during the trip. I was told very firmly not to reset it but would have to wait for him. He said he would get there in a few hours as he was busy. We went and sat in a coffee shop to stay warm.

Unfortunately, there were no covers on one of the children's bed so my young son had to sleep in a bed with no linen. When I asked for the extra bedding the owner said I had not stated there would be 3 of us in the booking but the owner had directly asked how many people were staying and I had written to her 3 people. They did later provide the linen but this was about 9pm after I had put my son to bed.

The house didn't have a guest book to make comments. Instead some people had left comments on a few slips of papers. I did wonder if this was a way to remove poor reviews.

After we left the owner held back £35 from the deposit, writing that we had left the house in a mess with pen marks on beds and saying they were charging us for this. They said pictures had been taken. I have asked them several times for this proof but have received no response.

To be fair to the house it was nice and tidy and except for the matters above it would have been a nice stay. However, I will not be staying again. I wish them well but I think they need to improve their standards a bit.

Owner's Response: on the guests booking it stated 2 guests, so we made up 2 beds, one double and one single my husand took sheets over asap for 3rd bed as soon as we knew it was needed. we run the cottage together, so there is no problem speaking to my husband. the cottage is in a very quite area, there as never been been any complaints about noise, the carpark at the back of property belongs to retirement flats{not pub} and is hardly ever used as most have no cars. the house was left in a mess noddles spilt over cooker and not wiped up and noddles spilt on the lounge coffee table, greasy hand marks on the lounge sofa. the bedding was covered in pen marks, I think this was were the children slept, we would not be able to use this bedding again, as we like to give our guests a high standard. it is not possible to set the heating to come on just once , the controls are twice a day . when my husband went around, the porch door was left open and all the heat was rushing out off the house into the porch the walls of the porch were soaking wet from the heat rushing in, and the condensation this caused. this gent was not happy I held back deposit, but there was damage to bedding, plus he went home with 3 of my large bath towel which he did inform me of and he asked for this to be taken out of his deposit. the damage deposit goes through homeaway, I do not hold it, so all photo would be given to homeaway. we granted the guest to stay on later in the cottage, after check out time, because he was having car trouble, at no extra charge, he did not mention this please read other guests reviews, you will see our high standards and we really care a lot about our guests. we are sorry he did not enjoy his stay

Amazing cottage very homely and lots of added touches to really make the cottage stand out . Parking is very easy to the cottage. There is a fanastic pub very near serving traditional english food . Walking distance to the pier and very assemble to attractions for all ages. Beachy head was my favourite place great for people who love a long walk or a short walk with a fanastic pub located there with amazing views over looking the sea a must place to visit .
