Great location

  • 3 of 5

My family and I had a great time staying on the outskirts of Croyde. Weather was not the best, a rainy fortnight, but when you're mostly body-boarding every day it doesn't matter. It's a short 10min walk into the centre of the town (3 pubs and 1-2 bakers, little else), and nice walks long the beach and cliffs. Unfortunately there's not really a grocery shop or supermarket, and the nearest is in the next sizeable town which is between 10 - 60 mins drive depending on holiday traffic. There's also some nice drives with lovely coastal villages to visit in the area. At the apartment the owners were very friendly and helpful, and the parking for 2 cars was adequate (I recommend trimming the overgrown fushia(?) bush by the front door which was constantly full of bees, as it's hard to get in/out of the car without stepping into it). Unfortunately for a 2 week stay for a family group of 6, the inside of the apartment was a little basic. It felt and looked like it had not been updated since the 1970's, and smelt damp and old. The kitchen facilities were limited on space and capacity, and as we cooked at the apartment every night it was a hassel with also limited food storage capacity for 6 people. The heating is via the old 70's emersion heater style electric heaters which take roughly half a day to warm up. Not ideal if you're cold in the evening and want to warm up quickly, but then don't want the heating on during the day if the sun shines - so the temperature of the apartment was hard to manage. The bathroom was very cramped, with one shower for 6 people not ideal, although there are 2 toilets. The outside shower to wash off the wetsuits, although a great attribute, needs fixing as the water pressure is very minimal.

Given the rental price, I would recommend renovating the property to a higher, more modern standard.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Your comments will be forwarded to the property owner. Croyde is a VERY popular destination in summer and the roads leading to and from do become very busy at certain times of the day, visiting Tesco on the outskirts of Braunton is best done early or after 6!
