Unique, romantic apartment for two in York city centre artist's house.

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

'Atelier 22 York' is a unique, elegant and characterful self-contained apartment in our newly restored period town-house.

Ideally located in a quiet residential street 5 minutes walk from York Minster and the hustle and bustle of the city centre with its museums, fine restaurant dining and shopping. 8 minutes walk from York station.

With an eye for the unusual and attention to detail Royal College of Art graduates David and Anita have created the perfect, dreamy get-away.

Recently selected by Alistair Sawday's 'Special Places to Stay' (the first in York), this spacious apartment has been lovingly restored and styled by its artist owners and features their original artworks (paintings/lights). The apartment has solid oak flooring, antique Persian rugs and a combination of period French and contemporary designer furniture which contributes to the apartment's special character. A stunning set of French 18th century chateau doors divide the living and bedrooms and provide the 'wow factor' of this charming find.

A welcome basket of Prosecco or red or white wine, olives, artisan made bread, preserves, muesli, organic milk, eggs, fruit juice, Betty's/Yorkshire tea and ground coffee are provided.

Help with luggage.

The living room with its linen covered antique chesterfield sofa, large format art books, 42" Smart HD TV with Freeview, DVD player, Bose Bluetooth sound system is perfect for a cosy night in.

Wet-room style bathroom with walk-in shower, heated towel rail, underfloor heating and plenty of white fluffy towels (organic eco shower gel and shampoo etc.)

The kitchen - reclaimed slate work-tops, Victorian tiled floor. Induction hob, oven, fridge, microwave, electric kettle, coffee maker, toaster etc. Washer-dryer, steam iron and ironing board.

Guest Access

Ring front door bell marked 'Evagora-Campbell' and David and Anita will give you a key and show you around the apartment.

Interaction with Guests

The apartment is within our family house but completely private and with its own entrance. Your hosts are on hand, though, for advice on local attractions, restaurants and places to visit for day trips.

The Neighbourhood

Now known as York's 'Cultural Quarter' the apartment is within 5 minutes of

The Minster, The Yorkshire Museum, The Theatre Royal, York Art Gallery (re-opening after major refurbishment in August 2015), and 10 minutes from York's Picturehouse cinema and most of York's Historical attractions.

Getting Around

York's many attractions, including The Minster, Yorkshire Museum and Gardens, Treasures House, Fairfax House, Castle Museum, National Railway Museum, City Walls, Theatre Royal, City Screen Cinema, Betty's famous Tea Rooms are all 5-10 minutes walk away as well as beautiful riverside walks and restaurants, pubs and bars too numerous to mention.

A walk through the tranquil Museum Gardens, a couple of minutes away, past the medieval ruins of St. Marys Abbey and the restored 3rd century Roman Multangular tower brings you into the pedestrianised heart of the city.

York station (with coach stops for excursions to Whitby, Castle Howard, Fountain's Abbey and the coast) 8 minutes walk.

Cycle hire from 'Cycle Heaven' also at York Station.

Truly unique and special!

  • 5 of 5

Atelier 22 exceeded ALL our expectations. While the pictures on the website are excellent the actual experience of staying at Atelier 22 is more than you can imagine. Just on the edge of the beautiful busy centre of York you are transported into a elegant, charming french style apartment. The furniture, light fittings, art work show the hand of an gifted interior design owner. This spotlessly clean lovingly restored apartment is truly unique and special, it felt like a privilege and absolute treat to stay in. We will return. We didn't meet the owners however a big thank you to the delightful friendly Sally for looking after us.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to York. We were excited about staying at Atelier and were not disappointed. The apartment is ideally situated to enable you to explore York. We did not have a car and so it was an ideal base for walking and sightseeing. Anita provided very informative information prior to our stay and talked us through this when we arrived. The wine , bread, olives, eggs etc on arrival were wonderful and great to see local/free range produce. The apartment is beautiful and it was so interesting to read about the history and provenance of the apartment and fixtures and fittings. We would definitely recommend this apartment and definitely return if we were visiting York. My only regret - not asking about how to buy the art work! Thank you both for a memorable weekend.

A M A Z I N G !!!

This flat is truly a one of a kind find! There are so many wonderful aspects about this place that it is hard to even remember them much attention to detail, everywhere you look! From the "welcome goodies" to the wonderfully open living area to the beautiful and super comfortable bed, this might be the best VRBO flat we have ever stayed in!!

We arrived SUPER late (12:45 AM), but there were clear instructions for getting in so we could get ourselves settled. The housekeeper, Sally (the owners were away on holiday) was extremely friendly and able to handle most anything we needed. Anita (owner) was always easy to get ahold of -even though she was out of the country- and was able to handle all else. A huge thanks to both of you!

The location of the flat is perfect for seeing all that York has to offer, and is also very close to the train station.

The flat, itself, is spotless and lacks for nothing.

All in all, a magical and romantic spot in wonderful York that we would wholeheartedly recommend.

Amazing weekend break in a beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place to stay!.....was greated by Anita & David who were lovely...they showed us our accommodation which was just immaculate, the living room/kitchen area was fantastic and the artisan bread and the welcome basket was a great touch. The bedroom and the bed was unbelievable and so comfortable. The wet room and underfloor heating was great...we would highly recommend to stay here as it's very local to York town center (a 5min walk away) was so good we have booked again for June!

Perfect apartment In great location, couldn't fault it, definitely return and recommend, lovely.

First timers to York but we/I made the perfect choice with this basement apartment.

We stayed 2 nights, midweek, travelling up from the South coast of Hampshire, very easy to find. Parking is at the rear, which is an ample size, narrow access lane but our car (Freelander) squeezed through easily.

Apartment is truly lovely, spacious, clean, beautiful furnished, high spec kitchen and bathroom.

Everything your could possible need is there. Iron and board, hairdryer, coffee machine, shampoo/con, soap and a larder full of goodie basics. Plus a arrivals pack (Bread, Milk, Eggs, Prosecco)

Bathroom is lovely with Wetroom shower, with gets nice and hot. Beautiful toiletries too.

Bed was really comfy and high quailty linens.

The centre of York is really close either turn right and right again and walk straight head (past Sainsbury's Local) through the city walls at Bootman Bar, arriving at the west end of York Minister. Or left and left again follow the straight, then across a road into the Museum gardens, go come out with the Tourist Office is to the right, across the road. We bought "York Pass' there.

We had the perfect stay and would definitely return, without a second though. Thank you it was just what these parents of 3 tens needed.
