Located 150 miles from New York City is one of the most beautiful vacation homes in the Catskill region. You and your loved ones will be able to relax in this beautiful mountainous area which was made famous by Washington Irving when he published the famous short story of Rip Van Winkle in 1819.
This luxurious getaway can accommodate five guests. A sixth guest can be accommodated with an airbed that is provided.
There are two full sized bedrooms in the house. The downstairs bedroom has a queen and twin bed which are both nicely decorated. The upstairs loft bedroom is accessible by a latter type stairs, has its own dedicated ½ bathroom, king size bed and private balcony facing the mountains.
The main bathroom is very rustic with wooden floors, it has a large sit-down shower and two shower heads.
The eat-in kitchen has a country style that includes handmade cabinets and counter tops along with hardware floors. You can sit down to eat and enjoy the views of the mountains. There is also a separate dining room area facing the sliding glass doors that overlook the mountains.
The living room is large, has hardware floors, cathedral ceilings which faces the back yard garden. There is a dresser full of games for those who want to stay-in for a fun comfortable game night.
Going around the house is a wraparound deck that covers the front and back of the house. The back yard is very private. Enjoy sitting near the garden and enjoy watching the deer and other wildlife nibble at the garden.
Swimming in the creek and hiking are just a two minute walk up the road. Also up the road is the Fern wood Bistro Bar with creek side dining. North Lake is just a 10 minute drive up the mountain for more swimming and enjoying nature. For the skiers Hunter Mountain provides the best skiing in the area and is only 20 minutes away. Other actives such as snow tubing and zip lining can be done at Hunter Mountain.
For the antique collectors out there, Saugerties is the number one spot in all of New York to find the best collectables. Saugerties also provides many unique shops and many places to eat
We were extremely pleased with our entire stay and we had plenty of room for everyone. The little extras such as coffee, dish detergent, foil, popcorn, etc were great. Opening the door to a bottle of wine was a welcome surprise too. But I was most pleased to discover the mattress was comfortable. The up stairs TV was a great hit for the kids. We really felt at home here and was sad that we had to leave.
The huge decks were awesome for sitting outside at night and there is even a firepit!
I can't wait to come back!
Very pretty location. The house is a nice sized two bedroom (one is hidden through a cupboard so feel like you are in some charming children's fairy-tale). The house was very clean and neat but upon arriving, I immediately had to get rid of the air fresheners that were left all over the first floor. The fake freshener smell was overwhelming. But as soon as I did; that the upstate fresh air smell was back and it was absolutely lovely.
Five New Yorkers and a 4-year old beagle stayed here over a holiday weekend - and we could not have asked for a better vacation!
• The house could fit up to 8+ people very comfortably. Kitchen has enough space to prepare big meals and store all the essentials
• Perfect house for a lazy dog!
• The front and back decks make this home unlike any other. Back deck is great for BBQ, hanging out, games, conversation. Front and side decks come with a stunning view, perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktail as the sun sets
• Backyard is huge, very relaxing with a fire pit and has a great badminton court.
• Owners were extremely generous supplying gifts of wine and s'mores - very accommodating!
• The Fernwood Bar & Restaurant is literally 4 houses down and was a highlight of the weekend. Great for darts, drinks with locals, juke box, pizza, wings and margaritas.
• Local attractions: Kaaterskill Falls with swimming hole is a must - great hike, get there early to find good parking. Woodstock is about 25 minutes away, great for a day-trip. Palenville General Store had all essentials and great food.
Looking forward to going back!!
My husband and I had a relaxing and peaceful time. The house was very cozy. Our dogs enjoyed playing and then taking a long nap afterwards. We definitely got the rest that we were looking for. There are many beautiful nature sights in the area that are worth checking out.
Everything about this place was great. My boyfriend and I live in Brooklyn and wanted to get away for the holiday weekend. Luckily, this house was still available the Sunday before the 4th of July.
We stayed in the house with 4 other friends. The loft bedroom upstairs was great. The beds were super comfortable (we stayed in the loft bedroom the first night, the other bedroom the second night). Perfect for a small group. The A/C worked fine (although we really didn't need to use it). The house is gorgeous, the yard is gorgeous. Huge deck that wraps around the whole house with 2 dining tables outside and 2 inside. The grill works. Bathrooms were stocked with toiletries and towels. Enough linens/blankets/pillows for everybody. Kitchen had enough plates/glasswear/silverware for 6. Pots and pans and cooking utensils were there.
There's a huge supermarket and a liquor store about a 10-15 minute drive from the house so you can stock the fridge with whatever you need. The road dead ends into the Kaaterskill Forest so if you want to explore the woods, it's literally a 2 minute walk away. There's a cute little restaurant down the street too. A gorgeous creek runs along the road. Then if you want to go to the campgrounds/beach/lake, it's about a 15 minute drive from the house.
Beautiful scenery, beautiful house. Nice and secluded. I now want to live in the woods.
