About Marcia Hill

We have been passionate about Périgord Noir since long before we moved here in 2006 with our two daughters. We feel very privileged to live in such a beautiful region with so much to do and explore. It is a real pleasure to share with our guests the knowledge of the area and based on the great reviews we received in our first year our guests agree with us that we live in a “Petit Paradis”!

Marcia Hill purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Marcia Hill chose Perigord Noir

The Périgord is envied the world over for the splendors of its traditional gastronomy. High-quality products used in the preparation of its local cuisine include foie gras, other duck- and goose-based ingredients, the famous black truffles of the Périgord, chestnuts, walnuts (which have been awarded their own Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) label), and Périgord strawberries, not forgetting the wines of Bergerac (13 of which are AOC), produced from top grape varieties on land that neighbors the “grands crus classés” of Bordeaux and the sweet wine of Mombazillac, perfect for accompany foie gras.

The Vézère Valley is home to some of the richest historical sites in Europe, including prestigious sites, famous Caves such as Lascaux and natural rock shelters. Fifteen of these decorated sites are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites also the Valley has a concentration of the most beautiful buildings of the Middle ages and the Renaissance, including castles perched on the rock, villages full of character (10 of which are officially listed among the “Plus beaux villages de France” (France’s Most Beautiful Villages such as St Lèon sur Vézère - 10 min away) and of course, renowned towns such as Sarlat and Périgueux, officially classified as a “Ville d’art et d’Histoire” (Town of Art and History).

What makes this cottage unique

The unique benefit of “Petit Paradis” is the fact that although we are in a rural setting we are not isolated; having the villages of Montignac 15min away, Perigueux and Sarlat 30 min and so many tourist sites in our door step such as Lascaux, La Roque St Christophe, Maison de Reinac, Grotte de la Grande Roc, Chateau de Losse, Village troglodytique de La Madeleine, Roc de Cazelle, Gardens de Eyrignac, Parc Prehistoric, Grottes de Font-de- Gaume et Rouffignac; not to mention the markets, villages and all the sports available. We can fill our day with memorable activities and come back home to enjoy a good glass of wine in the calm and tranquil surroundings.

Idyllic retreat

  • 5 of 5

Well equipped, extremely clean gite in stunning location, with Marcia the owner being the perfect host. This was the most peaceful location we have ever stayed in, yet close to all the main sightseeing in this area of the Dordogne. I can't recommend this property more highly.

Exceptional

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely enjoyed our 6 night stay in Petit Paradis. The cottage is very clean, modern, quiet and fully equipped. The beds are comfortable and the view from our window was exceptional. Easy parking and a very comfortable gite to return to each day, was just what we wanted.

A very warm welcome from our hosts, Marcia and Neil. They were so helpful in giving us details how to explore the area such as Lascaux, Les Eyzies, Sarlat, etc. Would love to return and explore more. We highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have quiet and relaxing holidays.

Marcia and Neil are the perfect hosts, very warm and friendly, offering lots of advice on the area. We would definitely come back, thanks so much Neil and Marcia.

Beautiful home from home

  • 5 of 5

A lovely gite, clean and comfortable and larger than expected and finished to a high standard. The friendly owners have thought of everything and its a real home from home. The garden is so peaceful with an amazing view of the chateau. Ideally placed for great days out in a beautiful quiet area with a short drive to the supermarket. We did not want to leave.

High quality holiday home with stunning view

  • 5 of 5

A lot of love has been put into this cozy holiday home; we felt at home straight away. You wake up with a stunning view on a chateau, you have breakfast hearing the birds sing… It truly is a little paradise!

From the cottage it is very easy to visit the highlights of the Dordogne area such as Lascaux, Les Eyzies, Sarlat, etc.

Fantastic views, lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for 1 week this year. The cottage is brand new, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well appointed, it has everything you need for a holiday. The views from the terrace are stunning, overlooking the chateau and surrounding country side. The area is jam packed with things to do, full of history, lots of beautiful villages and some great restaurants. Marcia and Neil are the perfect hosts, very warm and friendly, offering lots of advice on the area. I can certainly recommend a stay here. We will be back.

Un vrai petit paradis

  • 5 of 5
